<0> junir, I believe backports.org only has 3.5.0
<1> abrotman : I think the problem is not a router or firewall..
<2> stoned: do I just need to add backports to sources.list
<3> is there already a frozen kernel version for etch when it turns stable?
<2> sorry, yes I do
<4> junir: backports home page has infos
<5> dvcoa: it's possible that putty isn't sending them often enough
<0> junir, couple of things in mind. I think you should install from deb.stosberg.net. Check out the site, instructinos are there. Only select the kde 3.5.1 repository, put it in /etc/apt/sources.list, update && install kde (DO NOT dist-upgrade with backports)
<2> and when I do this, what stops apt from going to debian stable first and downloading any older version of kde
<2> why stosberg?
<6> dvcoa: is there a firewall between you and the server? ive seen that behaviour with ****ty sonic devices
<0> junir, 3.5.1 is bugfixes etc. over 3.5.0, I don't remember exactly about backports.org, but I do know for a fact that stosberg holds 3.5.1
<7> what 's the best translator?
<8> whats stosberg ?
<0> junir, I think by default higher version number packages take precedence over lower ones, but you can use /etc/apt/preferences to pin things
<0> !tell junir about pinning

<2> ahhhh, thanks
<9> again, thanks stew :)
<2> thing is when im specifying kde in preferences... theres so many packages. Do I need to specify them all?
<0> no
<0> something like Pin: kde*
<0> doh
<0> Package: kde*
<10> I have writen an app in python which should be run as a system command, what's the recommended way to have it installed? Shall I create a makefile with a 'make install' target or is there some other tool I should use?
<0> Pin: origin deb stosberg net
<0> Pin-Priority: 990
<0> something like that
<11> stoned: yes you have to.. (and it will get harder, and harder)
<12> Hi, I am pretty new to linux, if I install debian will I be able to use e17 as a desktop?
<0> phoohb, not all the time
<13> eleftherios: depends how widely you want to distribute it
<0> junir, if you don't want to mess with pinning, you should learn about the -t switch in apt-get. apt-get -t releasehere ....
<13> eleftherios: you could use debhelper to make a deb file that you can install with dpkg
<14> dvcoa: increasing both ClientAliveCountMax (24) and ClientAliveInterval (3600) session keeps alive for 1 day even if a firewall is filtering
<11> (I hold back xfree86 two years, but then when dependens names and etc chnged.. the strikeforce of xorg shows it power..)
<2> ok, ill look into it. thanks for the help
<10> nevyn, yes I will create a deb for it but the original tarball should have some sort of installation for the man page and the executable
<0> you're welcome
<10> so I will either write some custom python script or write a makefile for a make install target (or if someone could point out the most conventional way to do it)
<15> eleftherios: look at distutils which comes with the python core, and create a setup.py using distutils
<1> peppet : where is that option ?
<10> stew, distutils are for python modules
<14> dvcoa: sshd_config
<15> eleftherios: not exclusively, though, right?
<10> stew, as far as I understand they are used to install python modules to be used with the python interpreter
<10> stew, I had a quick look at the docs yesterday and I couldn't find any references for installing system wide apps
<10> ah well, I guess a makefile is the way to go
<4> ewww, my cd drive needs grease !
<5> so does the sheep
<0> sick
<0> abrotman, "would you **** a sheep?"
<5> stoned: liable is an aussie .. it's a running joke
<0> abrotman, that line is from jay and silent bob strike back
<0> :)
<4> not a funny one either :(
<0> actually that whole bit was funny
<4> seeing as abrotman doent realise its KIWIS that **** sheep!
<1> peppet : what is your putty version?
<0> lol
<4> we ****, erm, other things..
<4> :P
<0> more power to ya man
<1> peppet : I don't see that.
<16> hi, having problems with syntax highlighting in vim, somehow related to #369119. "Can't open file /usr/local/share/vim/syntax/syntax.vim". I don't even have /usr/local/share/vim ! Symlinking doesn't help unfortunately
<15> eleftherios: file:///usr/share/doc/python/html/dist/setup-script.html#SECTION000340000000000000000 (***uming you have python-doc installed)
<15> _edwin_: what does "readlink -f $(which vim)" return?
<11> I have cdrom problem, it doesn't work if module "ide-scsi" is loaded. (and I have nooo ideer why its get loaded.. ) Any ideer??? HELP
<16> stew: /usr/bin/vim.full
<17> usr/local/share? how can that ever be a reference in a packaged vim
<16> stew: I am on amd64, but vim was working great till I upgraded it today
<0> phoohb, take it out then
<14> dvcoa: it's a ssh server option
<11> stoned: I do. But why does it get loaded at evry bootups?
<10> stew, will check it now, thanks :-)
<0> phoohb, because you didn't do it right I guess
<11> stoned: Do you have any ideer, or are you just chatting?
<0> phoohb, if you tell it to not load a module, it won't load one

<18> phoohb: blacklist it
<11> stoned: Where do I tell it to explicetly not lo be loaded???
<4> phoohb: /msg dpkg blacklist
<18> !blacklist
<19> blacklist is probably Sarge installs the Hotplug and Discover packages to help with hardware module loading - which can often load undesirable modules. Add 'skip foo' to /etc/discover.conf and 'foo' to /etc/hotplug/blacklist to prevent them from loading. Don't forget to remove it from /etc/modules (if present). in etch and sid, modules should be blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
<18> oops
<15> phoohb: is it in /etc/modules? is it in your bootloader? (like /boot/grub/menu.lst)
<18> liable faster next time :)
<4> jetscreamer: :)
<0> phogg, read some docs, also a great tool is modconf, install it, take it for a spin around the block, browse stuff. /etc/modules
<15> _edwin_: make sure /usr/local/ isn't referenced in your .vimrc nor in /etc/vim/
<18> around the world in 80 days... but he said nothing...
<4> jetscreamer: almost bed for me, getting drunk and slow :)
<20> I have a linux router with 2 interfaces: the internet interface , and the private interface, in the private interface I control the public addresses clients, they have a router, when I try to make ping to this router from outside, I can't make it, but when I try to make ping to the host without a router the ping works ???? any suguest
<18> liable: i have to go to work atm :(
<11> stew: nope it's not in /etc/modules
<4> jetscreamer: haha! :P
<16> stew: it is not referenced
<1> peppet : I don't have a privilege to change that. ;(
<15> phoohb: check that its not on the # kopt line in menu.lst (or anywhere else in menu.lst) or lilo.conf if you use lilo
<15> phoohb: otherwise you blacklist it
<21> Why doesn't GRUB load up? It says "GRUB Loading stage1.5." and then "GRUB loading, please wait..." and then just stops.
<21> It never displays the grub menu
<22> neither tsocks nor proxychains on my "machine A" will access a socks proxy (on "machine B" on the lan) unless my machine were also provided direct internet access (such as by using machine B as a nating gateway), any idea why?
<4> hburchey: have you let it wait a while? my box doesnt like grub and hangs for quite some time with it. otherwise re-install grub, and the mbr
<17> which would be faster, webdav over https or samba/nfs over openvpn?
<4> hburchey: i ended up installing lilo cause it pissed me off to much
<23> hi, how do i install liblame?? there seems to be no debian package, and downloading the source and installing that doesn't have the desired effect either...
<16> 1:7.0-017+5 was working ok (syntax highlighting), 1:7.0-017+6 broke things
<18> !tell Bart22 -about marillat
<4> Bart22: toolame package?
<21> liable, I already reinstalled it. And yes, I waited a while.
<21> liable, 60 seconds or so.
<23> jetscreamer: thanks!
<23> liable: no, mp3lame
<16> stew: I'm going to reportbug the vim problem
<15> _edwin_: what version of vim do you have installed now?
<23> jetscreamer: how must i insert this line into sources.list?
<16> 1:7.0-017+6 on amd64, and 1:7.0-017+5 in 32-bit chroot
<4> Bart22: see what jetscreamer / dpkg siad
<16> the one in chroot works fine
<24> itchi > i noticed a strang e behavior if i do modprobe ndiswrapper while in recovery mode (X not started) this success and lists my wlan adapter caps; says major_fn 0bf not implemented but the led on the card does not turns on whey ?
<15> _edwin_: +6 is available too it looks like, i'm installing that now, i'll see if i see the same
<15> _edwin_: but you should probably reportbug regardless
<16> stew: echo $VIMRUNTIME: /usr/local/share/vim
<16> lol, what is local doing there?
<23> liable: it doesnt really say what the exact line should be... and i kind of forgot all my linux knowledge :|
<4> hburchey: i dunno. i would try lilo, but i guess that doesnt solve the problem
<5> liable: it's a joke!
<25> howdy folks
<5> liable: at least i don't make jokes about you and the koalas :)
<4> abrotman: read what i said after :P
<5> liable: i saw :)
<4> Bart22: at the bottom of the page
<15> _edwin_: doh, that would be the problem
<16> stew: #373696, I just found it when starting reportbug ...
<23> what page?
<4> Bart22: the marillat page
<23> where is the marillat page :?
<26> ndis: I not know :-/
<4> Bart22: visit the marillat home page
<23> but where is the marillat home page?
<27> First of all hello to all. Is anyone using fglrx driver for RADEON on debian with tv-out?
<26> !marillat
<19> methinks marillat is a repository of unofficial Debian packages, not in Debian for patent-related reasons, maintained by Christian Marillat. For instructions to add an APT source, ask me about <marillat.sarge> or <marillat.etch>. if you already used it, it moved to http://debian-multimedia.org/ (from ftp://ftp.nerim.net) Edit sources.list and change to the new location.
<24> <26> btw what comes adter modprobe ?
<16> stew: the workaround listed in the bugreport works. Now one more problem left: Ctrl+P, and Ctrl-X+Ctrl-O (a.k.a omni-completion) is not working on amd64. They work in the chroot (same .vimrc)
<22> neither tsocks or proxychains on my "machine A" will access a socks proxy (on "machine B" on the lan) unless my machine were also provided direct internet access (such as by using machine B as a nating gateway), any idea why?
<4> Bart22: its a bit confusing cause it just moved.. http://debian-multimedia.org/
<23> but that shows only a directory listing..
<10> I have a script which merges and parses/analyzes httpd log files, is /usr/bin/ the right place to be installed?
<4> eleftherios: /usr/local if its a non debian app
