<0> Eulex: cool! <1> cy_, i'm guessing grey is not in the rgb file (/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb.txt) <2> britt, actually, most wired cards are supported. it's a bit worse with wireless ones, though. <0> Eulex: thats what i meant, wireless ones. <3> if I'm making .deb kernel out of kernel source does it make somekind of logfile out of it? <0> Eulex: i want to build my father a linux-based music player thing...didnt know which card to use.... <4> I'm trying to run an application or invoke it with xscreensaver. Is basically that I want to run a video when the xscreensaver runs. <3> guys can somebody help me track the problem? <5> it might be it <5> lemme check :) <2> britt, hmm, ok. if in doubt, google :) <0> Eulex: yep. Google is good. <6> what is "Could not early remove e2fsprogs" ? <7> when is xorg 7.0 release coming to debian? <8> DevilChaos: WIR <7> doh
<2> britt|away, usually, you will need to find out what chipset it has, and then check how support is for that chipset. <9> and when is ready? :) <2> _diego_, siyh <7> i know what WIR is lol <9> siyh? <2> !siyh <10> i heard siyh is Sooner If You Help, or see "wir" and "rsn" <7> im really annoyed cant get xgl until 7.0 xorg <11> DevilChaos: help package it .. <7> i wouldnt know where to start dont even know how to read source code <12> DevilChaos: learn! <7> ive googled it <2> !nm <10> i guess nm is New Maintainer, the process through which new Debian developers happen. And also nevermind, or a program to list symbols from object files and libs. Never\No Mind. New Mexico No Molestes (do not disturb) in spanish. at http://nm.debian.org/ <7> too <2> !mg <10> A simple packaging walkthrough can be found by (as root) "apt-get install maint-guide" and then (as user) lynx /usr/share/doc/maint-guide/maint-guide.en.html/index.html" (or maint-guide.en.html in sarge/sid). 'Mg' is also the chemical symbol for magnesium, or the shorthand for Madagascar <12> !nm =~ s/And also nevermind, or a/A/ <10> OK, SerajewelKS <13> i've got a laptop with xp service pack2 and forgot the admin p***wd. i want to reset the xp p***word to install sarge on it and dual boot. i am a newbie running knoopix4 live cd and have no floppy drive nor cdwriter <12> knop4nu: (1) this is #debian, not ##windows. (2) this is #debian, not #knoppix. <13> sarge is linux <3> hey, guys when I try to make deb out of kernel source I get error how do I track it and remove it with menuconfig? <12> knop4nu: you're using a knoppix livecd. that is not sarge. <13> but i want to install sarge\ <14> what was this? o.o <13> sarge is debian <14> biiiiig lag or netsplit? <15> knop4nu: what do you need from us? <12> knop4nu: so why do you need to reset the p***word <2> !d-i knop4nu <10> knop4nu, you want to go to http://www.debian.org/releases/sarge/debian-installer/ - for your own good, and everyone else's. <12> knop4nu: the debian installer couldn't care less about your windows administrator p***word <16> has anyone had problems with netinst 31r1a CD? <8> saahbs: most likely <12> saahbs: are you having a problem, or are you taking a poll? <17> knop4nu: you need to be booted into an alternative OS to reset the XP p***word. knoppix should suffice, though you still need to know how to access the info. there is a linux rescue CD out there for download that comes with the functionality built in <16> I've tried two burns and both complain that they cannot find installation components. <16> SerajewelKS: problem <12> saahbs: don't start with a poll then... "has anyone ..." "does anyone use ..." are no-op questions and don't help us help you. <0> Nwallins: or the XP boot CD. or is it 2000, theres one that allows one access to reset the p***word without having to know it <16> the installer starts but cannot find installation components while doing the base system install from cd step <16> SerajewelKS: ok <13> Nwallins: i do not have a cdwriter so knoppix is the only thing i can use <18> knop4nu: http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntp***wd/ <12> knop4nu: repeat after me: "i don't need to reset the windows p***word to install debian" <0> knop4nu: how did you create the knoppix cd <0> SerajewelKS: he wants to dual boot <19> knop4nu: The place to ask your question is either #windows or #knoppix. You're likely to get an answer from somebody with the knowledge you seek in one of those channels. <12> britt: so? <0> SerajewelKS: well youve got a point <0> *foot in mouth #2* <0> lol <19> knop4nu: People in this channel are less likely to know how to reset a win p***word than the folks in #windows. <12> britt: =) <12> jjazz: on the contrary, we're more likely but it's still blatantly off-topic =) <0> i wonder if bill gates hangs out in #windows <12> britt: on freenode? unlikely. <16> I observed a problem with netinst 31r1a CD. The installer starts, I can partition, detects the install cd, but while doing a base install it complains that it cannot find installation components. Also it doesn't have an option for poiting it to a network repository. <13> i did ask on those channels and got no reply. most linux users are former windows users . some power users <12> saahbs: odd.. it's always worked for me
<20> jjazz i think you mean the guys in this chan are less likely to help or be sympathetic to a windows user :P <12> !they don't know <10> Just because the people in some OTHER channel don't know the answer to your non-Debian question, it does NOT give you the right to h***le US with your problems. Go try Google. <12> knop4nu: ^^^ <0> knop4nu: im a former windows user. now im a Mac user and a linux user <16> 31r1 CD1 works fine on the machine though...I'm suspecting wierd hw problem with CDrom, but the box can run knoppix all day.... <2> saahbs, checked the tty where all that info about how things are being set up is displayed? <16> Eulex: yes, no error messages there <2> knop4nu, well yes, I was a windows user. but seriously, do you want or need info applying to win98? :P <16> SerajewelKS: is netinst supposed to connect to network while installing from the CD? or only after reboot? <0> is there any way to boot into a debian prompt from the netinstall CD? <0> like a "repair" boot option from LILO or what? <12> saahbs: after the first reboot <16> SerajewelKS: good. hm. <12> britt: boot the netinstall CD, type 'rescue' at the boot prompt.. i think <0> damn <0> i typed repair <0> sigh <14> xD <12> britt: use the F keys, luke <14> loool <17> RTFM, UTSL, and now UTFKL <0> next time i screw up my filsystem and endanger 8000+ music files, i'll use the force <21> just put a cat on the drive. always helps <16> SerajewelKS: Eulex: thanks. I guess my prob could have been hw based..... <0> Malagmyr: the animal? <21> yep <2> saahbs, yw :) <6> should one run dist-upgrade as a cronjob on a production box? <16> \quit <16> hehe <0> Nwallins: no example syntax entries in the man page for xargs <12> kombi: hell no <0> :\ <0> google. <12> kombi: *maybe* if you're only getting security updates <12> kombi: but even then, it might pull in a new kernel, and new kernels can require reboots <6> SerajewelKS: that's what I felt, I heard poeple say that somewhere.. <6> true! <20> how do you get security patches in debian? <3> can somebody help me to compile kernel? <8> MrNaz: you make sure you have security sources and update regularly. <12> Hoxzer: do you need to compile a kernel? <20> chealer is there a url for noobs like me? <8> MrNaz: security.d.o? <22> hi MrNaz <6> Hoxzer: there is hardly ever a reason to do that, unless > 1 CPU or > 1Gig of RAM <3> SerajewelKS: well I could reinstall <20> hi TinoW :) fancy seeing you here <0> kombi: still there's smp kernels <23> and I saw her face <3> I'm using debian based linux not debian <23> I'm a believer <3> so I guess debs are not working <3> kernel.debs I mean <0> Hhhhhh: lol <22> MrNaz: yeah, thats funny :-) <12> Hoxzer: wtf are you talking about. i can't make heads or tails of your explanation. <12> Hoxzer: you *do not* need to compile kernels for debian <23> yea, Debian is magic <24> anyone know why i might be getting a pciReadWord: Alignment error: on starting X? happened since reboot for some reason.. the weird thing is my video card is AGP and not PCI as well (i tried asking in #xorg, no help. figured someone here might know or have run into this) <3> SerajewlKS: I'm not using debian, I'm using knoppmyth which is based on debian <24> i also did a purge removal on xserver-xorg and reinstalled it, no help :( <3> can I anyway use debian kernels? <12> Hoxzer: so why the **** are you asking in #debian <25> hola <26> !tell Hoxzer about knoppix <3> Serajewel: becuase it is debian based <23> SerajewelKS, that was pretty gay <25> como <23> SerajewelKS, why flame him? He was asking <27> 'lo. Got a kernel-image install issue.
