<markybob> harfooz, so why dont you mount them manually? do you get an error message when you try?
<Danar> anyone know how to fix this?
<hugoboss> ansong: With skype I only could hear, but microphone wann't working, so I enabled and disbled some entries
<pack> ansong: http://pastebin.com/554786
<ansong> hugoboss: in kmix?
<hugoboss> asong: yes
<harfooz> markybob -- I haven't tried that, but it's been so long that I don't remember how to. Up until a week ago, etch simply showed an icon on my desktops.
<ansong> try purging the app and reinstalling? (i am just guessing atm)
<markybob> harfooz, have them unplugged. tail -f /var/log/syslog plug them in. see where the system puts them. then mount /dev/{path_seen_in_syslog} /mnt
<hugoboss> ansong: already done that :-(
<Danar> can anyone help me fix my mouse?
<Anime|Matte> er. it now asks to connect whereas i wanna install from cd is possible ?
<ansong> hugoboss: you said it broke after a reboot? um...reboot again? really, i've never had that much trouble with sound, so i'm out of ideas :(
<Danar> :(
<ansong> pack: now how about the output of your apt-get update?
<beardy> Danar: Tell us what's wrong with it then.

<tdn> How do I install new TeX-packages in Debian? I need some packages to compile one of my LaTeX documents. How do I get more packages?
<Danar> beardy, "i just upgraded a bunch of stuff (testing) and now my mouse doesn't work right. xmodmap thinks i have 11 buttons all of a sudden even though my xorg.conf is set properly (with 7)"
<harfooz> markybob, the output from tail suggests this: /dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0: p1 p2 p3
<hugoboss> ansong: already rebooted a lot :-) thanks for answering. Is there any channel specific to sound problems
<hugoboss> ?
<pumpkin0> trying to use USB-CD drive under debian unstable with selfmade kernel 2.6.11. USB-detection looks good: http://tsn.dk/p/?id=3800 but mounting is impossible "mount: /dev/sg0 is not a block device". What am i missing / where to start searching ?
<markybob> harfooz, good. now give it the mount command that i showed you above (as root)
<harfooz> tdn, apt-cache search tetex will give you many packages
<lumat> hello, is it safe today to upgrade to kde 3.5? - Recently I had to downgrade becaus kded was crashing on start
<tdn> harfooz, hmm... apt-cache search tetex returns 23 packages.
<harfooz> tdn, I typically use tetex-base, tetex-bin, tex-common, prosper
<Danar> can anyone help me fix my mouse?
<lumat> of course
<Anime|Matte> help!
<[6502]> i get an error from aptitude uptate with "deb http://www.backports.org/debian/ sarge-backports main" as stated in the docs.... :-/
<lumat> as long it's a hw prob
<lumat> ;)
<starfishy> danar: what do the X logs say about the number of buttons?
<harfooz> markybob, mount is asking me for the file type.
<Danar> starfishy, which?
<[6502]> -stat (2 no such file or directory)
<starfishy> which what?
<tdn> harfooz, tex-common does not exist.
<starfishy> which X logs?
<beardy> Anime|Matte: Don't /msg people please. What happens if you don't select where to download from? Aren't there a cdrom alternative?
<Ronin> starfishy: yes, they dont know which log
<lepton> pumpkin0: what does 'fdisk -l' print?
<markybob> harfooz, what is it? fat32? mount -t vfat /dev/{path} /mnt
<starfishy> /var/log/Xorg.0.log
<Danar> starfishy, which log file?
<Danar> k
<harfooz> markybob, let me try that.
<starfishy> or /var/log/Xfree86whatever
<abrotman> XFree86.0.log
<starfishy> thanks abrotman
<pumpkin0> Danar: my cat could come over. No seriously: http://tsn.dk/p/?id=3801
<tdn> harfooz, you are aware that I am talking about LaTeX-packages for use in \usepackage{package}, right?
<starfishy> if the log says 7 buttons the problem is somewhere in the xmodmap config
<Danar> starfishy, "(**) Configured Mouse: Buttons: 11"
<harfooz> tdn, yep -- I use LaTex 8 hours a day.
<pumpkin0> lepton: the partitions on my hda-drive
<lepton> pumpkin0: and nothing else?
<Anime|Matte> beardy: i did the root floppy and plugged then hit enter... now it says i must connect (but that pc can't connect to the internet) so i wanna install from cd but it does not allow , and i dont undersdtand why
<tdn> harfooz, but the LaTeX packages aren't returned with apt-cache search tetex.
<Danar> starfishy, why would that be? my xorg.conf says 7...
<starfishy> Danar: then your x config is to blame
<pumpkin0> lepton: nope. the only prog output something about the drive is cdrecord....
<harfooz> trust me, tdn, the latex packages are inside the tetex packages ;-)
<starfishy> remove the line that tells it the number of buttons
<Danar> starfishy, Option "Buttons" "7"
<starfishy> it should not be necessary
<Danar> starfishy, it was before
<starfishy> how did you determine that?
<harfooz> tdn, run this: apt-cache show tetex-base and you'll see.
<pumpkin0> Danar: if the driver wants 12 buttons, give it 12 buttons. Here's my line: pointer = 1 8 3 4 5 6 7 2 9 10 11 12
<Danar> starfishy, without it, xmodmap said there weren't enough buttons to do the configuration i needed
<harfooz> tdn, apt-cache show tetex-bin
<lepton> pumpkin0: have you scanned linux-usb.org ?
<starfishy> i run two mice with 10+ buttons, two with 7, none of them have the buttons line
<Danar> pumpkin0, 11 actually, and i'd still like to know wtf happened and where it got '11' from
<starfishy> what driver are you using?

<beardy> Anime|Matte: Where did you get those floppies? Sounds like it's netinstaller floppies, there probably is install-from-cd floppies aswell.
<starfishy> i mean which protocol
<Danar> oh, explorerps/2
<pumpkin0> Danar: the driver changed the default number of buttons in this release.
<shogunx> who needs 10 buttons on a mouse? isn't that what a keyboard is for?
<Danar> that's the one i need
<tdn> harfooz, ok. Thanks.
<pumpkin0> lepton: browsing it since 2 hours ...
<harfooz> tdn, no problem -- let me know if you need more help getting latex set up.
<starfishy> shogunx: i dont need them but i want the rest of the mouse so i am stuck with the buttons
<Ungy> shogunx, a person with only 1 arm
<starfishy> and a tilting scrollwheel is nice at times
<Danar> pumpkin0, well considering i'm specifying the number of buttons, why would it use the default?
<tdn> harfooz, I will. Thanks :)
<Anime|Matte> got from d:\install\floppy\*.img
<Anime|Matte> used boot.img
<starfishy> danar, is it a MS Explorer mouse?
<Anime|Matte> and root.img
<pack> ansong: looksl like my mirror was corrupted.
<pumpkin0> Danar: ask the developer ... it bugged me too.
<[6502]> the problem apparently was a simple extra "/" ... the description on http://www.backports.org/instructions.html didn't work for me as stated
<starfishy> MS Explorer PS/2 i mean
<Danar> starfishy, logitech mx500
<starfishy> then why are you using the explorer protocol?
<Danar> starfishy, it needs it
<gobfrey> can anyone help with an installation problem?
<starfishy> for the mx500 the protocol would either be ImPS/2 or evdev
<starfishy> depending on what you want to do
<Danar> starfishy, according to all the guides i read for setting it up. and they worked
<Danar> starfishy, untill i upgraded stuff just now
<starfishy> i have two MX1000 and they both use evdev
<gobfrey> My hard disks aren't detcted
<lepton> pumpkin0: does fdisk -l /dev/sda print anything?
<starfishy> danar: functionality does change
<Danar> starfishy, everything on the web says explorerPS/2, and that's what's always worked
<Danar> starfishy, my mouse didn't :p
<starfishy> that surprises me very much
<pumpkin0> lepton: nothing at all.
<lepton> pumpkin0: put a disk in the drive
<shogunx> gobfrey are the disk controller chipsets detected?
<starfishy> for the MX1000 the universal consensus is that if you want all the buttons to work the event interfac e is necessary
<pumpkin0> lepton: there is a disc inside and it is spining.
<lepton> pumpkin0: have you tried sdb, sdc ?
<Danar> starfishy, er... ? i use imwheel and this line: xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3 6 7 4 5"
<gobfrey> shogunx: I have no idea. It says it can find a 1GB memory card (which I don't have). I have 2 large hard disks on SDA and SDB
<beardy> Anime|Matte: You should be able to choose cdrom instead then. Check the installer menu, also read the install guide.
<Danar> starfishy, with a xaxis mapping for 6 & 7
<Danar> starfishy, er, zaxis
<starfishy> i dont use imwheel and my wheel works just fine with evdev
<shogunx> gobfrey SCSI disks? what SCSI card?
<starfishy> thats the whole point of the event interface
<gobfrey> shogunx: I'm using Ubuntu at the moment, and I had no problems installing that. I want to try Debian
<Danar> starfishy, er, it does something else i think
<pumpkin0> lepton: still nothing. mount complains about "not a valid block device" so i guess it's not sda-sdd
<Anime|Matte> there no choose it first asks for some kinda drivers then prompts for netinst
<Anime|Matte> :(
<gobfrey> shogunx: how do I find that out
<starfishy> http://floam.sh.nu/guides/mx1000
<Danar> starfishy, i know nothing about that
<lepton> pumpkin0: is it a blank disk?
<starfishy> read that, it explains the eevent interface quite nicely
<starfishy> should work the same with all logi mice
<shogunx> gobfrey well, you can look at the card, physically, or you can boot ubuntu and give me the output of lspci
<Danar> starfishy, that's a different mouse with 12 buttons :/
<pumpkin0> lepton: no, and the disc is readable in my normal IDE-CDROM-drive. But it's a 5,25 USB-enclosure with a old CD-drive i had anround. i think these 2 don't go along every well.
<gobfrey> shogunx: there is no card, the disks plug into the motherboard
<lepton> pumpkin0: have you loaded the right kernel modules/config'ed the kernel for usb device and scsi generic?
<starfishy> danar: all the logi mice work the same
<starfishy> just adjust the number of buttons
<starfishy> ExplorerPS/2 is dated
<FarrisG> Still having this dhcp problem, but it looks like it's only on windows clients. Ethereal isn't helping, basically shows me the same info that's showing up in syslog on the server
<shogunx> sounds like no driver for the scsi card gobfrey. you could try booting the installer with linux26 at the lilo prompt the installer boot to. if the scsi card is onboard, then lspci is the only way, unless you find the scsi chipset on the motherboard.
<pumpkin0> lepton: usb_storage, cdrom, ide_scsi, sg, sd_mod, scsi_mod.... and some other ...
