<8> how come aptitude complains about "this package is from an untrusted source"? I just installed debian testing <9> apparently only the testing Debian is available for AMD64, is it usable in a production environment? <10> retro_neo: who told you that? <6> retro_neo: you're somewhat mistaken <2> on of my all in one, it apears to conflict with the printer. dmseg is "usb 3-1: usbfs: interface 0 claimed by usblp while 'scanimage' sets config #1" <11> retro_neo: amd64 is available for sarge, albeit unofficially <11> but it is supported by the security team etc. <2> can somebody help me setup the scanner portion of my all in one, it apears to conflict with the printer. dmseg is "usb 3-1: usbfs: interface 0 claimed by usblp while 'scanimage' sets config #1" <12> retro_neo: sarge is available for amd64 <1> can anyone help me? <13> resiak: I'm going to try with the tools given by my HDDprovider <13> sonyman: what happens? <5> sonyman: we cant help you if you dont say what happens .. <1> dannythm, nothing. If I launch the "root terminal" application, it asks me for my p***word, the mouse icon changes to an hourgl*** and then nothing happens. With synaptic, nothing happens at all <14> Anyone have an idea why my courier mail server cant send emails to hotmail accounts, but to other mails ? <15> hi <5> sonyman: use su -c 'command' or sudo 'command' to run programs that need privilegies <12> clausen: no we cant tell you that unless you give us more specific information, like the logs of your mta <1> priscila, that works dandy from the terminal, but what about from the gnome menus? <1> priscila, they should work without modification <15> can anyone understand my problem.. recently I noticed firefox takes longer time looking up the hostnames, does this indicate i have a problem with DNS oe caching ? <12> idP: dns <15> ok is this from my box or outside <15> whosis responsible, my machine or the ISP <12> idP: how should we know? <16> idP: can't say for sure but you can allways test situation by making pings all over. <5> sonyman: i would recomend gksu to do it <15> normaly who should be respnsible <12> idP: you or your isp <15> lets ***ume it is my machgine problem, how can I check ? <1> priscila, gksu is installed <16> idP: those millions porn torrents what you are downloading might cause that kind of problems. <14> valdyn, : the log says : success: delivered: mx3.hotmail.com [65.54.245.72] <12> idP: maybe you could tell us useful information first, like where you dns server is, if you use a proxy etc <12> clausen: so your mta doesnt fail to deliver hotmail mail <15> sorsis i dont use that <14> valdyn, it must be something about hotmail then ? <12> clausen: yes <14> Anyone know of hotmail denying special types of mails ? <12> clausen: if its not reaching its destination then hotmail is dropping that mail after it was successfully delivered <12> clausen: ( successfully delivered by your MTA ) <14> valdyn, ys.. but why is that.. really anoying <12> clausen: ask them <17> clausen: we've seen mail disappear into hotmail on occaison -- get what you pay for from Microsoft (sometimes). <18> hi <9> thanks everyone, I finally found the unofficial amd64 for sarge <17> clausen: I've tended to ***ume user error, not hotmail error, but eventually you start to wonder...... <9> is there any thing to know about that version, since its not official? <14> gnufan, I have tried sending to many different hotmail accounts, none of the mwork <12> clausen: if you're on a dynamic ip or your name doesnt resolve properly then hotmail could drop your mail based on the information in its header, but you cant know why exactly without asking them or running a ( possibly huge number ) of tests <17> clausen: tended to eat paypal related emails -- I've tended to give gmail invites to those who won't buy a better email service ;) <19> hello - can anyone explain why i get terrible performance when running SMP kernel? *everything* is sooo slow <19> even nano the text editor is painful to use <19> when i flpi back to UP kernel, it is fast again <19> *flip <12> ScoobyD00: use a different kernel <19> i tried them all <17> ScoobyD00: what processor? <0> nothing works.... <12> ScoobyD00: i doubt you tried all kernels <19> gnufan: Pentium D 820 (DualCore)
<17> ScoobyD00: what kernel versions. <18> hi, I have a problem with isa sound card ALS0110 the sound is very "buggy". <12> ScoobyD00: this is a kernel bug, switching between kernels optimised for different CPUs wont fix this <0> priscila: i already try there... but i dosent seems to work as well <14> gnufan, Ive tried sending to my gmail account that does not work either <18> ... using alsaconf to set it up. <19> valdyn: i tried: UP 2.4 & UP 2.6 -- SMP 2.4 & 2.6 <14> valdyn, okay.. where can I ask them do u think? <12> ScoobyD00: try a kernel from backports.org <12> 15:43 < andres2> hi, I have a problem with isa sound card ALS0110 the sound is very "buggy". <12> 15:44 < valdyn> ScoobyD00: this is a kernel bug, switching between kernels optimised for different CPUs wont fix this <12> 15:44 < _idan> priscila: i already try there... but i dosent seems to work as well <12> 15:44 < clausen> gnufan, Ive tried sending to my gmail account that does not work either <12> 15:44 < andres2> ... using alsaconf to set it up. <12> 15:44 < ScoobyD00> valdyn: i tried: UP 2.4 & UP 2.6 -- SMP 2.4 & 2.6 <5> _idan: what happened? <12> jesus <12> now why didnt I get kicked <19> valdyn: so if i use backports - will that mean i lose the benefits of tracking stable? <12> ScoobyD00: to some extent, yes, but you primarily want to fix your error.. <20> it seems like a stupid question, but what can go in non-free if most "unfree" packages are too "unfree" for non-free? <14> valdyn, Correction.. it works.. my bad <21> ScoobyD00: Security updates for backports you use will be much more your area to watch out for. <22> aptitude install mysql-server => remove/uninstall all software from my HDD :( <11> XoR_: on stable? <19> valdyn: no, i primarily want a stable system, which means i may have to use a distro that works :O( <22> no, on testing! <12> ScoobyD00: or that <20> aptitude has a habit of removing lots of software on !stable :) <20> ... in my experience <19> is it normal for a brand new Sarge install to show bugs like this? <19> on commodity hardware <23> tedp: what do you mean by "most "unfree" packages are too "unfree" for non-free"? <12> ScoobyD00: though that is like fixing any configuration with a reinstall, its not really targetted at fixing things precisely <19> valdyn: the thing is this is a brand new installation, so i have the option to start with a good stable foundation <12> ScoobyD00: smb systems arent really commodity in that sense, there's many issues all the time till they're fixed <12> ScoobyD00: err, smp <19> valdyn: ok <20> chealer: things like codecs and (more specifically) stepmania <12> ScoobyD00: and if your system is newer than sarge there's no surprise that its got issues really, see lkml <17> ScoobyD00: if it is the kernel - it is likely common to all GNU/Linux distros. <20> the only thing i could think of was where the licence doesn't permit redistribution. perhaps that's it <12> gnufan: i dont expect this bug to affect newer kernels though.. <23> tedp: heh, that *would* be a pretty obvious explanation of why it couldn't go in non-free <17> valdyn: newer kernels have newer bugs you mean ;) <12> gnufan: yea sure <20> chealer: doesn't explain why no-one wants stepmania (not even in non-free?) while its theme resembles Dance Dance Revolution <24> Hey all. I'm running a testing system on my laptop and for some reason, the BIOS clock isn't syncronized properly at boot time. The BIOS clock is correct and the /etc/default/rcS entry for UTC is correct. If I run the script manually after boot, it works. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get the init script to sync the clock properly at boot time? <25> Sebulba03: dunno but install ntp <23> tedp: I don't know what's stepmania. I thought you asked a general question, answering about a specific product with a specific license needs some analysis <24> blondie: I have rdate installed, but that depends on being on the internet. <20> right <25> stepmania is gay <25> Sebulba03: seems a reasonable ***umption :P <20> blondie: i don't care what you think of it <23> !tell blondie about gay <25> I know all about gay <21> Sebulba03: make sure anything you set up to sync with time servers tries AFTER your network interface(s) are up <23> blondie: then we know all about stepmania <20> haha <25> then you'll know how gay it is :P <12> ScoobyD00: whatever though, i would install a backports kernel to find out if that fixes things, you can always do something else ( and possibly involving more work ) later on <21> Sebulba03: Do you have a VERY good clock online in your local network? <23> blondie: no, but we'll make without your remarks <19> valdyn: Dual Core pentiums 8xx have been around since "Apr 2005", and Sarge was released 6th of June, 2005 <25> chealer: you don't know what my remarks mean <26> where can I get real codec? <24> kspath: I don't really want it to depend on being on the network/internet. <25> I don't use the word "gay" how you think. <19> valdyn: would it be motherboard? <23> blondie: then don't do it <25> chealer: why? <25> if you want to make ***umptions that's your problem. <21> Sebulba03: Well get a machine with a great clock internal and use that.
