<0> azeem: direct rendering: Yes
<1> theD3viL: so what exactly do you mean with "laggy"?
<2> with my radeon8500 and 1Ghz G4 I get about 750fps... which ****s for sure :)
<3> !you lag
<3> meh, that was bad timing.. meant for dpkg, not the current convo..
<0> azeem: when i minimize some window, music is lagging..when moving window - breaking...at boot i get some udev errors.
<1> how much RAM do you have (free)?
<2> what hardware do you have?
<0> azeem: 204 free
<4> mcgreg: thanks for your help earlier - it worked.
<2> takisd: you're welcomed
<5> anyone know where i can get changelogs of current packages, because packages.debian.org is down...
<1> spiritwalker: /topic
<3> spiritwalker: /usr/share/doc?
<1> however, pdo.debian.net doesn't have changelogs yet
<5> @Myon aber ich glaube der hat keine changelogs, naja ich schau mal danke...

<1> spiritwalker: -ELANG
<3> hrm, how to get aptitude to use that..
<6> spiritwalker: ECHAN
<1> -EAT
<3> azeem: aptitude fetches them from p.d.o
<1> that's neat
<3> when it works.. :(
<1> 12:18 < azeem> however, pdo.debian.net doesn't have changelogs yet
<7> hi, someone here who knows a good howto on installing alsa for debian
<3> right..
<1> you can get the latest few on packages.qa.debian.org/<package>
<5> ists bad that pdo has no changelogs, because i want to know for example why libc6 is updated...
<2> bartden: hmm=? what kenrel? 2.6 has alsa by default, you just need to install some packages, use aopt-cache search alsa
<1> spiritwalker: see my last line
<5> @azeem ok i will have a look
<3> spiritwalker: apt-listchanges.. /usr/share/doc..
<1> spiritwalker: and please drop the @
<7> mcgreg yes i have 2.6, should i built in , or use modules ?
<2> bartden: ok, then you just need some tools... wait a moment
<3> alsa-base alsa-utils..
<8> vnc starts. but i get the ugly grey screen. no window manager is starting
<2> barnes: apt-get install alsa-base alsa-tools alsa-utils
<8> xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
<9> why doesnt lpstat -p ojs show anything when if I look at the graphical version of cups it shows a printer there that is called ojs and it is enabled?
<8> xsetroot -solid grey
<8> x-terminal-emulator -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
<2> bartden: then alsa should work and you should have sound
<8> those are the 3 lines in my xstartup script
<1> Garda: did you install an x-terminal-emulator?
<2> bartden: it might be that you need to enable alsa, by alsamixer, and enable sound-output in the gui
<8> i installed the tightvnc server
<7> mcgreg k thx
<1> Garda: and on the box you connect to?
<2> bartden: np :)
<8> yea
<8> on the one i'm connecting to
<1> well, check whether xterm is installed on it
<8> well i'm sitting at the one i'm connecting to
<8> i'm just getting it to work for now
<3> Garda: erm, if you want it to show a desktop or some****, then install it on the server.
<8> what do you mean
<10> I have used ffmpeg to create a pal-vcd type mpeg file how do I put this on a CD so it is reconised as a VCD
<8> i installed the tightvnc server on the computer i'm connecting to
<0> I still have error at boot - it saying that none of devices and some progras is found
<3> eh?
<0> ?
<11> neil_dugan: you dont
<3> theD3viL: could you explain that a little better? it made no sense at all to me.
<11> neil_dugan: just play it, with something like xine or mplayer
<10> valdyn: I want to be able to play it in a DVD player.
<11> neil_dugan: ops, i missed the first part...
<11> neil_dugan: burn it with cdrdao i think
<11> neil_dugan: im not sure though
<0> liable: hm..there is many errors about udev/lib/devices...i remember i must purge hotplug .. but cant do if it removed aleready!
<12> liable, i scanned all my disks
<10> valdyn: thanks I will put the mpg file on a CD and see if it works.
<12> but if i go to do anything after it, pressing enter causes #debian line to open up
<3> theD3viL: dpkg -P hotplug
<13> Humm wats that debian project its like cpanel but open source and free ?
<0> liable: tnx!
<11> neil_dugan: it should not be as a file on that cd but as raw data..

<12> so basically i cant select anything! i ran tasksel and it worked, but i cant choose desktop
<3> theD3viL: what do you mean?
<12> its currently set on mail server btw, dont know why =/
<10> valdyn: do you know how to do that?
<3> err
<0> liable: hm...erorr at installing -> /boot/initrd.img-2.6.15-1-k7 was been altered. Cannot update.
<11> neil_dugan: apt-cache show vcdimager
<3> theD3viL: sorry, missfire.
<0> liable: ?
<3> theD3viL: the last comment wasnt for you :)
<3> tdz: to change the selection you press the spacebar and use the arrow keys
<0> liable: oh ;) .. my last comment was for you ;) .. maybe know why is this error?
<12> thanks , what should i do then after selecting desktop?
<13> Wats that cpanel type app that is designed to run on debian
<11> !webmin
<14> it has been said that webmin is a lame web-based interface for unsafe system administration for Unix. Check it out at http://webmin.com/security.html but, remember, dondelelcaro *hates* webmin. "i'd rather sit on the floor shoving table knives into live electrical outlets than run webmin on an exposed server." Obsoleted in debian: http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00790.html
<3> tdz: make sure desktop is the only one, then hit the tab key to get to ok, or whatever it is (install?)
<12> ah
<3> tdz: spacebar, arrow keys, tab. that should get you sorted..
<13> valdyn: no not webmin
<13> its like plesk & cpanel
<3> tdz: the install guide should have explained that to you..
<11> !cpanel
<0> what this error means? -> /boot/initrd.img-2.6.15-1-k7 was been altered. Cannot update.
<3> theD3viL: when do you get that error?
<11> theD3viL: means what it sais
<0> liable: when doing apt-get install --reinstall udev (couse i purge hotplug now)
<13> valdyn: there is a free debian based project that looks really good
<3> theD3viL: re-install the kernel
<11> k31th: how's it called?
<0> liable: why?
<13> tbh id rather not use them but users seem to like doing stuff them selfs... i think it offers to much of a security hole
<13> valdyn: i cant rermember
<13> thats why i was asking
<0> liable: still the same error
<9> ok, this is strange, according to the documentation for the hplip package then it should be enough to use hp-makeuri for a network printer and then use hp-probe to find that printer, but that doesnt happen for me .. I know the network works and the printer is online cause I can print to it using another faulty printer spool
<9> anyone can help me out here with this?
<11> theD3viL: does it really say 'was been altered' ?
<3> theD3viL: whats apt-get -f install do?
<0> valdyn: yes
<3> was/has?
<0> liable: nothing installed, nothing removed, ...
<11> k31th: make sure you have a different kernel installed that you can boot from and purge that kernel package
<0> liable: ill try to reboot, and see if dpkg -P hotplug was enough.
<0> brb
<13> valdyn: wat ?
<3> theD3viL: you upgrading from sarge to etch?
<11> k31th: ops
<11> theD3viL: make sure you have a different kernel installed that you can boot from and purge that kernel package
<0> liable: still the same =/
<3> theD3viL: you upgrading from sarge to etch?
<0> liable: nope, i upgraded from sarge to sid.
<7> hi , i just compiled the alsa modules into my kernel, rebooted, loaded the modules and installed alsa-base alsa-tools alsa-utils, but when i do alsamixer i get this error , alsamixer: error while loading shared libraries: libasound.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory, but libasound2 is already installed and so is libasound2-dev, any help
<3> theD3viL: read bts for udev, theres lots of bugs for this.
<0> liable: okey
<0> tnx
<15> hey, i get lots of udev related errors while booting debian..
<15> it looks something like this
<15> run_program : exec of program '/lib/udev/udev_run_devd' failed
<15> run_program : exec of program '/lib/udev/udev_run_hotplugd' failed
<15> can anyone help ?
<0> priyank: me too :)
<15> theD3viL: o.O
<3> priyank: /msg dpkg bts
<7> how can i make a normal user read files from a windows xp ntfs partition ?
<16> :)
<17> bartden, set umask, gid and/or uid the way you like it
<17> bartden, man mount
<18> bartden: umask=022 as an option will do pretty much what you need
<17> there's just the annoying thing that all files have x flag on the partition :p
<17> actually that's just my fault :o
<17> or no
<17> dpkg says that umask=022,gid=xxx to access as non root
<7> thx
