<1> TraceGreen: vi -r hello
<2> !tell MyWay about amd64
<3> does anyone have a link to a guide for a newbie to update kde from 3.2 to 3.5 on sarge?
<2> ask #debian-kde
<3> ah thakns
<4> Sarge has KDE 3.3, not 3.2
<2> i figured it was a miskey
<3> oops my mistake
<3> thanks for the heads up guys
<5> hi there, ive been having a big weird problem since a couple of weeks, as soon as i upgraded from sarge to etch, any remote ssh connection that timeouts totally crashes the whole system (server-side), ive tried getting the sshd from sarge, from sid, tryed a generic 2.6.15 a home-made one, also tried 2.6.14, still having that same problem... does anyone has a clue ?
<6> hello there....
<6> can i ask something?
<2> just ask
<2> nicolas__: check the bts?
<5> abrotman: nothing concerning this trouble

<6> how do u reconfigure the all the hardware in debian?
<2> !u
<7> Damnit Jim! It's YOU. Y-O-U. Not *U*. U is a letter. YOU is a word. See ne1, or wud. Dutch for 'you' (formal singular). See http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20041201
<2> nicolas__: it might be a bug in something else
<6> coz i cant start X-server, coz it said that the video card is not setup properly
<5> abrotman: do you have an idea on what ? except sshd and the kernel ?
<2> !drxx JackInTheBox
<7> JackInTheBox: dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 [or xserver-xorg if you're using X.org] (as root). If you have edited the X config file by hand, or used some other program like xf86config, ask me about <xmd5>
<5> abrotman: im can also replicate the problem by using different clients
<5> such as putty and mindterm
<6> thnx ill try it
<2> nicolas__: reverse dns lookups ?
<5> abrotman: how do i check this up?
<2> nicolas__: make the logging more verbose?
<8> so i just installed the lete mingw32 package hoping to be able to write a virus for windows
<8> but i cant figure out how to cross-compile
<1> nicolas__: /msg dpkg debug sshd
<2> eigenlambda: we don't care .. wrong channel .. go away
<8> mmm
<1> nicolas__: combine that with strace(1) if the debug doesn't show anything interesting
<5> ok
<2> eigenlambda: if it makes you feel better .. i can have um*** throw you out for abusing the network ...
<8> the package has like 0 documentation
<5> ill crash again for the cause :P
<8> lol abusing the network
<1> eigenlambda: #efnet is your place for such things
<2> eigenlambda: IOW .. GO AWAY
<1> s/#//
<8> actually, i was hoping to make a windows version of my tetris program, but whatever
<2> GO AWAY
<8> *giggle*
<9> hello, I'm trying to build a package of zaptel, and I'm following the new maintainer's guidelines, but the dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot keeps failing on this: install: cannot create regular file `/root/centripitel_src/zaptel-1.2.4/debian/tmp/etc/udev/rules.d/zaptel.rules': No such file or directory
<1> abrotman: the um*** crazies only come out when it's snowing; something in the water?
<5> what is um***?
<2> asg: brain freeze
<2> nicolas__: University of M***achusetts?
<5> oh
<1> nicolas__: University of M***achusetts
<1> abrotman: do they sell slurpys in winter?
<2> asg: they do .. it's kind of sick
<1> abrotman: hmmm, odd.
<2> asg: this is like people having coffee when it's 100F outside
<1> abrotman: well, coffee can be enjoyed cold or iced.
<10> I drink coffee in our greenhouses in the summer (120+)
<2> asg: ever had a hot slurpee?
<11> yes they are delicious
<1> abrotman: yes
<2> damn you all .. that was the perfect setup for a sick joke!
<1> abrotman: not the one about the marmot and the tinfoil I hope?
<12> hey, what are the x11 development packages called?
<10> I slurp hotties all the time? like that...
<2> asg: nah
<1> nzx: xlibs-dev usually
<2> nzx: sarge/etch/sid ?
<12> etch
<12> testing
<5> it that normal that in ssh debug bug i cant login ?
<2> yeah . xlibs-dev
<5> ssh -p 2222 nicolas@66.130.209.204
<5> then nothing
<1> nicolas__: check the logs on the server side

<2> gravity: will there be a new package name eventually?
<12> i cant find xlibs-dev :(
<12> nzxlaptop:/usr/src/allegro/allegro-4.2.0# apt-cache search xlibs-dev
<12> nzxlaptop:/usr/src/allegro/allegro-4.2.0#
<13> xlibs-dev is dead
<13> I killed it
<2> i still have a metapackage .. it hink
<2> oh . nm
<1> gravity: is it x-dev?
<2> it's from sarge
<5> asg: no logging activity when trying to log in
<1> gravity: or xlibs-static-{dev,pic}
<5> ok, seems i cant use my network ip in localmode
<13> x-dev will be dead also, iirc
<13> xlibs-static-* will also be dead as of 7.0
<13> All this crap is being swept away
<2> gravity: STOP CHANGING THINGS
<12> so, how do i install it, lol
<12> i found x-dev
<13> nzx: Try libx11-dev
<1> abrotman: he's allowed to, it's unstable after all.
<13> nzx: You may need others, but see what they are first
<2> gravity: i can't remember all the things you change!
<13> I'm putting a metapackage for all the dev stuff back with 7.0
<13> abrotman: Most of it is going to simplify things a lot
<13> There'll be one main metapackage, and it'll be xorg
<12> grandma, thanks
<13> None of this x-window-system crap
<13> s/There'll be/There is/
<1> o/~ Grandma, welcome to the chair o/~
<5> to do it bad, i guess it wont crash in debug mode
<5> s/guess/bet
<2> gravity: can you make a javascript scrolling thingie in your website that displays all the changes? :)
<14> hi, when apt-get upgrade using sudo, i am getting a lot of error like "/var/lib/dpkg/info/tar.postinst: line 4: install-info: command not found". i have checked and install-info is in my path.
<13> heh
<1> Qiang: is install-info in root's path?
<14> asg: yes. in my path at /usr/sbin/
<1> Qiang: does 'apt-get upgrade' work as root if you su or login as root?
<14> asg: yes.
<1> Qiang: does 'sudo -H apt-get upgrade' work?
<15> whats the command syntax to add a scpit to run at boot? (i know man update-rc.d but i dont get it)
<1> LinuxNIT: try rcconf
<14> asg: no.
<15> k
<15> thanks
<15> ?
<5> LinuxNIT: you need to build the from skeleton
<5> then update-rc.d
<14> asg: i got same error saying command not found
<16> LinuxNIT: update-rc.d package defaults
<17> i want to change charset to utf-8. not change keymap. possible?
<15> its not a package its a script i wrote
<18> I just installed debian, but the terminal comes up in in a framebuffer, I just want straight text, which package do I reconfig?
<5> LinuxNIT: /etc/init.d/skeleton
<14> asg: i added 'echo $PATH' in the postinst script which failed on me, the path it printed out looks fine. /usr/sbin/ is in the path.
<5> then save it under another name
<1> Qiang: odd.
<1> Qiang: has this just started occuring?
<14> asg: yes. i noticed this two days ago. this is debian stable
<15> nicolas__, im confused. sorry i havent done this before. what do i do with >>> /etc/init.d/skeleton ?
<5> LinuxNIT: modify it to run your script
<19> LinuxNIT: You put it in ~/.closet/
<5> LinuxNIT: the skeleton is the file that make the bootup says: "Starting someones something: thing."
<20> somebody with a compaq presario v 2000?
<15> lol
<15> hmmm ok
<21> What does this mean: ioctl: "LOOP_SET_FD: Invalid argument"
<21> ?
<1> resista: in what context?
<19> mount -o loop, I bet
<5> LinuxNIT: its a script running your script
<21> sorry... when i try to load a cd with win4linux's loadwinproCD
<5> LinuxNIT: make sure it works well before update-rc.d skeletonthing defaults
<15> nicolas__, so i can just add a line like ./etc/fooo.sh?
