<0> robinl1: is that a new model?
<1> And what i need to do? Delete D disc and install linux in new disc?
<2> shining: urgh, maybe i gave the wrong number
<2> 0000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] (rev 01)
<3> cyzie: If WIFI and this laptop work with windows and ubuntu, then would you agree that this a configuration problem?
<2> :)
<4> Johny, yes but the installer will create the new partitions for you, you just have to make room for it
<0> robinl1: so you just have to configure X to use radeon, and that should be it
<2> shining: no direct rendering
<5> shining, robinl1 : Heh, if X is working, he probably already has X configured to use radeon. He just has to load the radeon kernel module.
<6> kingsley, possible. did i mentinoed just now possible due to configuration? anyway, 2 things i suspect, 1. miss a application 2. configuration setting
<0> pipeline: that isnt loaded automatically?
<5> robinl1: Add "radeon" to /etc/modules and reboot; direct rendering should work if X is configured correctly.
<2> pipeline: already did that - modprobe agpgart - modprobe radeon
<0> robinl1: check X log
<5> shining: I don't think so....

<1> Sepski, and i will see linux partitions from win xp?
<2> hmm ok, thanks ^^
<5> robinl1: Keep in mind that agpgart needs to be loaded before radeon.
<2> then i'm dumb
<2> lol
<2> i've loaded it afterwards
<5> Johny: http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/ext2ifs.htm
<2> but i've put it in the right order in /etc/modules
<4> johny not normaly, you usualy use a FAT32 partition to do data exchange between windows and linux
<5> robinl1: This is why I suggested you just use the /etc/modules thing :P
<4> johny there are windows tools to read linux partitions but i'b never been happy with any of them
<5> Johny: Linux can read, but not write, windows partitions. Windows can read, but not write, linux partitions.
<5> sepski: .... ext2ifs is quite good.
<1> ok thanks for all
<2> Reboot
<2> XD
<1> bye everyone
<4> just not worth doing it anymore. the linux is for work, the windows for games.
<6> kingsley, i dislike to use ubuntu/suse/fedora in my laptop, i prefer debian.
<5> sepski: Why bother with linux. Windows runs an awful lot of UNIX software if you install MS SFU.
<3> cyzie: I'm looking for a debian FAQ, readme or howto on wifi...
<6> kingsley, but im stuck at this **** which i dont know how and where to solve this
<7> cyzie: what essid did you use?
<5> kingsley: What card do you have?
<6> kingsley, thanks for offer help.
<6> xoz, it's a p***word, i cant give u :P
<4> pipeline, i was expecting more like cedega can run windowsx games for you
<8> kingsley: read /topic of #wireless
<3> pipeline: I don't use WIFI.
<5> sepski: Cedega is a waste of time.
<9> is there some program for helping me handle the scripts that will be loaded in a certain runlevel?
<7> cyzie: try using plain or no p***wd first to isolate the problem
<4> pipeline, aren't all games ?
<10> All my efforts at setting an attribute on a file fail with EOPNOTSUPP. What might I be doing wrong?
<10> An xattr, that is.
<5> sepski: Cedega's not even a fun waste of time. It only runs a handful of games -- the ones that are explicitly supported by Transgaming.
<6> xoz, i dont understand . can you explain in detail and example ?
<9> or is removing and creating links on /etc/rcX.d the only way?
<4> pipeline, yes exactly the problem
<5> sepski: Regular wine, winehq wine, has a much higher success rate, but the things that do run run very slowly because their DirectX implementation is so bad :P
<7> cyzie: usually, essid should point correctly to the proper AP
<11> Or you can just run games in Linux ;)
<5> sepski: I've been on and off experimenting with VMware's experimental 3d acceleration. It seems to work pretty well :P
<5> PerfDave: All hundred titles that were ever ported :P
<7> cyzie: or ***ign a null value to it
<3> streuner: Thanks.
<5> PerfDave: I think I probably have about a third of all linux game titles ever sold.
<8> dpkg, mhallsmite kingsley
<12> pipeline: all 12 of them?
<6> here is the messgae show in dmesg "ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth1: link is not ready"
<5> astronut: I just made that joke.
<11> pipeline: *shrug* Not having Windows doesn't give me any trouble with my gaming. Between Alpha Centauri, UT2k4 and Enemy Territory, I'm happy :)
<5> cyzie: Sounds like it's not ***ociating with an AP.
<12> pipeline: sorry, jst looked in
<13> How do i change my internal ip ?
<12> just*
<7> cyzie: try using iwconfig to get info from wireless
<5> PerfDave: Eheh, I do indeed play a lot of SMACX :P
<14> how can I find the mysql root p***word
<15> hello. i added a line to my fstab so it would mount my windows partition read-only on startup, but i can only access the partition as root. any ideas?
<0> if I really need to play, I rather take a native game

<5> PerfDave: It doesn't even annoy me that it lacks directplay, because SMAC's directplay support was too buggy to use :P
<3> cyzie: Two suggestions: 1.) Have you checked if the kernel needs a wifi driver and 2.) have you asked for help on #wireless?
<5> PerfDave: Even on a local LAN, with all windows hosts, you STILL have to use PBEM :P
<5> SperMite: "man interfaces" -- the /etc/network/interfaces file handles the automatic configuration of the network.
<6> kingsley, 1.) mmm...the kernel should need the wifi driver right? im using ipw2100-source
<14> ???
<11> rav: Look at the uid, gid and umask options in /etc/fstab to make it more widely readable.
<7> cyzie: have you installed wireless-tools. read its documentation.
<14> I installed phpbb2 and it asked me for the mysql root p***word
<14> I didnt even know I had it install
<14> ed
<16> alot of people here at work just communicate over msn. however sometimes the wizards they are type p***words over them to other employee's logged in. aside from running a local irc server, is there anykind of local net only type of messenger server/client that i could setup for the employees?
<6> xoz, yes. i have install wireless-tools. if not, iwconfig, iwXXX wont be in my system
<16> it'd have to be kind windows/linux geared
<11> kreg_work: jabber
<11> kreg_work: Psi is a great cross-platform Jabber client, and there are Jabber servers for Linux and Windows.
<12> kreg_work: jabber
<7> cyzie: is your module for wireless loaded?
<16> PerfDave, i thought jabber was just a msn/aim client side replacement
<17> hii
<15> PerfDave: i also added a memory stick to the fstab. they both have the same options, except the memory stick is writable, not read-only. i can access the memory stick as a regualr user, but not the windows partition
<11> kreg_work: No, Jabber is an IETF standard chat protocol.
<6> xoz, i have told this before. scroll up and read? :)
<16> PerfDave, astronut cool. i'll check it out.
<17> hi everybody
<11> kreg_work: Just look at jabber.org
<16> thank you
<11> rav: Possibly the filesystem for the USB key doesn't support access permissions.
<7> cyzie: try iwconfig eth1 essid ""
<7> cyzie: then try wavemon if you can get signals.
<13> ifconfig
<6> xoz, noted. will try now
<14> whats a good and easy to use firewall?
<18> how do i see a list of packages whose priority is "Important" ?
<19> jbernard: grep-dctrl probably can do this
<18> azeem: sweet, thanks
<11> norskfjord: iptables :)
<20> hrm
<21> hi to all
<0> irc is such a production killer :) kingsley should just check irc activity and give these ppl the least productive status :)
<3> cyzie: Does the output of the "lsmod" command report that a wifi module named something like ipw2100 is loaded?
<20> is there anything in stable that can download a file > 4GiB via HTTP?
<6> xoz, done on the essid "" and i have no carrier signal
<14> GyrosGeier: wget?
<21> is there anybody russian who can help me to install debian? I have a error at program debootstrap at install
<6> kingsley, yes, i have told u just now, lsmod | grep -i ipw
<22> !ru
<23> Unless you mean Mother Russia, Spell it out: "are you". see r. see u. Pogalujsta, zajdite na #debian-russian :)
<18> azeem: it doesn't say anything about priority in the package description
<20> norskfjord, nope, refuses to work as the files have a negative size
<7> cyzie: what does iwconfig says in your essid now? by the way, it should be in the mode:Manage
<6> "lsmod | grep -i ipw" show ipw2100, ieee80211 and firmware_cl***
<24> quit
<24> ls
<18> azeem: nevermind, i got it
<20> echo ieee80211 | grep -i ipw
<7> cyzie: essid in the managed mode should get the nearest essid.
<6> xoz, iwconfig essid say "off/any" and mode:Managed
<14> PerfDave: do you know of some script to help me setup iptables easaly?
<3> cyzie: Good.
<7> cyzie: do you use WEP or WPA in the AP?
<25> that should read "pozhalujsta", not "pogalujsta".
<6> is WEP / WPA a encryption ? as far as i know, it has open in AP
<20> xoz, you mean he might need xsuppository^Wxsupplicant?
<26> from can i download romanian language for phpbb2 ?
<8> GyrosGeier: did you try curl?
<11> norskfjord: I always do it by hand so I can understand what my firewall is doing.
<8> (too)
<20> streuner, yes, it works up to 4GiB
<11> GyrosGeier: libwww-perl should install a GET command, don't know whether it's got a 4Gb limit or not.
<20> streuner, files that are larger are truncated at size % 4GiB
<7> cyzie: try to disable authentication in AP to simplify thing. configuring WPA authentication is a little bit complicated but needed for security. for the moment, try no authentication in AP. you will need wpa supplicant later for WPA as GyrosGeier said.
