<0> abrotman: ok :)
<1> wsjunior: when it's done .. let me know
<2> gpm: i'm sure some will ... perhaps not as many, though
<3> !oftc
<4> hmm... oftc is the Open and Free Technology Community, a support/collaboration service. They have an IRC network: irc.oftc.net
<1> gpm: apparently so
<3> gpm: what's the problem with freenode btw?
<1> !oftc move
<4> irc.debian.org is moving to OFTC on June 4th [see http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/05/msg00012.html ] Operators and Bots will remain on both networks for the foreseeable future; you're welcome to either move to OFTC with i.d.o or stay on Freenode. Questions? Ask in #debian on either network. Want to know why? See http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2006/04/msg00333.html
<0> abrotman: ok. it`s done. what do i do now?
<5> so, most of the ops are moving to otfc then?
<5> oftc
<5> doh
<3> June 4th, good day.
<1> wsjunior: can you isntall gnome-panel ?
<3> what is i.d.o?

<5> debian: i have no problem with freenode
<5> debian: irc.debian.org
<6> gmp do not cheer yet
<3> do we still get our nick?
<1> wsjunior: or gnome-session ?
<0> abrotman: i'll try
<5> debian: if it's not in use by someone there...i'd ***ume. same as over here.
<1> debian: your nick ?
<5> ok.......
<5> i'm out
<7> anyone know why this doesn't work ?? : Put "deb http://security.debian.org etch/updates main contrib non-free" in your /etc/apt/sources.list file. Regularly update your APT index and upgrade (e.g. # aptitude update && aptitude dist-upgrade) to keep up-to-date on security updates in Etch
<1> debian: from what i understand .. no hostmasks on OFTC
<0> abrotman: no i cant.
<1> wsjunior: for gnome-panel ?
<8> lakez: be more specific than "doesn't work"
<0> abrotman: unsolved deps
<6> lakez: in etch security patches are different
<1> wsjunior: gnome-session ?
<9> how could one mistake "debian" for "ubuntu" they have no common keystrokes......
<0> abrotman: the same
<7> http://pastebin.com/750372
<7> By doesn't work I mean : http://pastebin.com/750372
<9> anyway, is there a ports or package thing for debian?
<3> abrotman: May I ask the motivation behind the move? :)
<9> or is it all done by hand
<0> abrotman: they complain about gnome-control-center
<1> MoonPatrol: stop trolling please
<1> wsjunior: apt-cache policy gnome-control-center
<3> abrotman: Just found the link nevermind. :)
<8> lakez: oh, there are no security updates for amd64 in testing yet (but don't worry too much there haven't been any testing security updates for any of the arches in so long that it doesn't matter)
<1> debian: like .. 30 lines up :)
<0> abrotman: what should it do? i just showed some info..
<1> wsjunior: just the "available" version
<10> damn why is the pine code so buggy? I get tons of warnings - is it just my system??
<0> abrotman: it just say that it isnt installed and show some candidates..
<1> ProphetPX: wrong channel . pine isn't in debian
<10> trying to build it generates a flood of warnings
<1> Candidate: 1:2.12.3-2
<1> ?
<10> i know!
<0> abrotman: exactly
<10> i know, i am building source
<7> how the hell did i get etch :()
<7> heh this sux
<1> wsjunior: and when you try to install gnome-control-center .. what's the error ?
<3> abrotman: well, I'm stil puzzle, do we need to rereg?
<0> abrotman: let me see..
<1> debian: yes
<7> I must have selected etch with the net installer
<10> i was just wondering how come building source for it, puts out so many warnings
<1> debian: but there are no hostmasks afaik
<6> lakez: one thing leads to another: maybe because etch kernel series cover better the amd64
<0> abrotman: complains about xlibs
<1> oh jeez
<0> abrotman: and when i try to install xlibs it says that there isnt candidates
<1> and when you try to install xlibs?
<3> abrotman: no hostmask is one thing, but do we need to get our own nick?
<1> wsjunior: because it's been removed .. you could probably get it from snapshot.debian.net .. but it would probably create a whole new mess
<1> wsjunior: i bet if you wait a day or two .. you'll be able to get it
<1> !why is gnome-panel not in testing
<4> gnome-panel is not in testing for the reasons listed in http://bjorn.haxx.se/debian/testing.pl?package=gnome-panel

<0> abrotman: actually i'm using unstable
<11> !beer abrotman for being so all fired knowledgable.
<12> stew: abrotman thanks for clearing that up. almost lost faith in debian :(
<1> hehe
<1> jhenn: now tell your friend he owes you a beer
<0> abrotman: but kde works flawlessly...
<1> wsjunior: really?
<7> isn't etch final coming out like tomorrow ?
<1> no
<1> !wwer
<4> Etch will release WIR; SIYH. There are no current estimates. Ask me about <etch pool>, <wir>, <siyh>. Join in and help out, or see the release team's latest timeline at http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/05/msg00015.html
<0> abrotman: yes
<1> wsjunior: let me see your source line
<13> !wir
<4> i heard wir is When It's Ready. See also RSN and SIYH
<0> abrotman: cant copy and paste with my touchpad :(
<12> abrotman: don't drink but i would like some tasty fair trade coffee :)
<1> wsjunior: are you ircing from the machine ?
<1> jhenn: oh ok
<11> abrotman: that was from me, hoser.
<0> abrotman: ya im using irssi at the console
<1> secher: beer!
<1> wsjunior: /j #flood
<1> wsjunior: ok .. i have no idea why something in sid wants xlibs
<2> bleh, the sources.list line given on that snapshot line is not functional ... i guess i knew it wouldn't be just by looking at it
<1> wsjunior: make sure you run apt-get update first
<11> abrotman: I won't crash this truck eh, it's a beer truck.
<1> secher: sly fox beer?
<2> but i think i can grab the individual .deb files, and h***le with the dependencies manually
<0> abrotman: i did
<11> abrotman: Damn, I'm in Ardmore tonight. How is it we live all of 10 minutes from each other and never got together for a brew????
<14> hi
<1> secher: because you don't like me
<14> what is the correctest way to open a USB Stick which is not in /mnt and /media _
<15> is there a way to tell gpg to import from stdin ?
<1> yes
<16> lol....everyone here from philly area?
<14> &j
<1> wsjunior: i don't undestand why stuff still depends on xlibs!
<11> abrotman: is ok, you'll come into the city when I get my apartment there and we'll do an up-and-down of the Irish pubs in Center City. Oh, yeah, right, that's why I always go out of my way to stop in and say 'Hi'. What's the factoid for getting the gpg key for apt-get?
<1> wsjunior: you can try grabbing xlibs from snapshot.d.n
<0> abrotman: are u using unstable too?
<1> wsjunior: but it might make other problems
<1> wsjunior: etch
<17> Just upgrade to 2.6.15 and like I've seen in a lot of posts, my system is failing to boot. What appears to be different with my system is that udev is up to date. It appears as though it might not be starting for some reason. If I let the "Waiting for root filesystem" time out, and then manually load the ide-* modules, my drives are fine, the modules are just failing to load during startup.
<11> wsjunior: abrotman already /is/ unstable, he needs no help.
<1> !tell secher about apt-get 234234
<1> !tell secher about apt-key 23421342
<0> secher: lol
<0> abrotman: i know.. thats odd.. it was so easy to install kde
<17> just upgraded, sorry.
<1> wsjunior: so kde works just fine?
<0> abrotman: ya. but i would like to have gnome :(
<17> anyone found a fix for this?
<0> abrotman: it is running kde 3.5.3
<2> i must say, i've been using the debian testing distro for some years now, and this is the first instance of "major" breakage i've encountered ... had a few minor bumps, but overall, this is an impressive record (and yes, i knew the risks, took them anyway)
<1> wsjunior: i'm guessing gnome2.14 is still flowing in
<8> scorn: which initrd creator was used when you installed the kernel package? initramfs-tools or yaird?
<1> HOLY CRAP LIONS!
<2> and in all fairness, the hardware i'm using is, um, rather outdated, so i guess it's not surprising that there's been no real hue and cry over it
<17> stew: I believe initramfs-tools, but how would I check this?
<18> Hi... does anyone have any experience in getting an Aladdin USB Hasp to work in Debian (especially the WineHASP driver)?
<0> abrotman: kdm and gdm works when i type but how to run one of them automatically?
<8> scorn: see which of initramfs-tools or yaird is installed. if both are, i'm not sure which will be used. i'd check the bts for whichever you are using, and possibly try the other
<0> abrotman: should i configure inittab?
<1> wsjunior: they should on thier own
<19> what do I need to change in order to have my win keys working?
<0> abrotman: how do i switch between them to select the default?
<17> initramfs-tools
<2> epilog: i use mine via xmodmap, but that may not be the best solution
<17> stew: yaird isn't installed, initramfs-tools is.
<1> wsjunior: dpkg-reconfigure <oneofthem>
