<0> bye <1> fireba11, I know, I dont just get why GPL licenses begin with "Copyright YYYY AUTHOR." instead of copyleft <2> valdyn, unfortunately no. the mobo has serverworks ht1000 w/ integrated sata which doesn't have support in 2.6.14 :( <3> sifi-xz: see 17 USC 401(b) <4> houn: apt-get install xfont-base xfont-75dpi (might be fonts) <5> I've read that 2.6 kernels are better at handling directories with large amounts of files (50.000+) than 2.4 servers. does this hold any truth <6> cisse: Thanks <5> s/servers/kernels/ <4> nixie: wouldn't surprise me <7> nixie: file system parts of the kernel got improved a lot from 2.4 to 2.6 <8> sifi-xz: Copyright is specific laws that are used to achieve 'copyleft' ( which is just a term for a special license coined by the fsf or rms or whoever ) <5> I'm trying to improve the performance of my m***ively hammered mailserver. <3> sifi-xz: It's a form provided by congress for giving notice of copyright. "Copyleft FSF 2006" wouldn't meet that statutory requirement. <9> sifi-xz: copyleft is not recognized by the cort. <6> cisse: Yeah, fonts, plural. Thanks though. <9> court
<5> already switched to noatime but opening large IMAP or POP3 folders is still slow <8> !custom d-i <10> [custom d-i] http://d-i.alioth.debian.org/svn/debian-installer/installer/doc/custom-kernel.txt <8> ekix: ^^^ <2> valdyn, thanks :) <7> nixie: uhm .. you mailboxes are maildir format i hope ? <11> hi <11> how i can limit the traffic used by apt? <1> valdyn, cool, thx for the answer <8> ekix: you could try the sid installer too i guess ( or even testing ), but all these ways have their issues, unfortunately i dont know about a sarge 2.6.15 installer <7> Crissi: ? <12> hola a todos <5> fireball: yes. <13> concerning ssh, is there a way to disallow anything but pubkey-based login to my account without touching /etc/ssh/sshd_config? <5> im using courier imap/pop3 <5> on an XFS filesystem <2> valdyn, many many thanks :) <3> Crissi: trickle can throttle it. <11> whats that? <1> valdyn, jjazz nvz thx <11> i miss a option at apt... like --upload-speed --download-speed <3> Crissi: apt-cache search trickle <14> in i A xmag - X client - xmag ----- from Aptitude, what does the A mean? <3> Crissi: AFAIK, apt-get doesn't have an option like that. <11> jjazz: should be reported as bug <7> nixie: that should be about the fastest setup possible just judging from what i know ... still kernel 2.6 would give the filesystem a seppdup of about 5-10% if i remember the benchmark test correctly <15> grant that user exclusive ownership and rights to the exported Subversion repositories, and only run their server processes as that user. --> how do i accomplish this after adding a system user? <11> stew: limit the upload speed (depends on download speed) <16> Crissi: how do you use apt to upload? <11> no... <3> Crissi: you're welcome to report it as such. I think it will be taken more as a feature request than a bug. In either case, if you submit a patch with it, somebody might even change it. <11> but if you have a adsl connection you have very small upload and if you have a big download upload can be flooded <5> fireba11: i think i should switch to raid10 then. raid1 isnt cutting it <16> Crissi: what do you upload with apt? <11> nothing.. <11> understand me <16> no <11> if you have a big download then your upload is used for answer packages <17> how could you get an 'active processes' list? <11> then at small upload bandwidth it can be bad <1> Can some stupid pornsite use my webcode if I publish it as GFDL? <11> ronove: ps ax <3> sifi-xz: If they comply with the GPL, sure. <1> jjazz, so you would not use GFDL on your site? <7> Crissi: i knwo that happening with windows .. linux should manage network good enough for that not to happen <3> sifi-xz: Sorry, I thought you said GPL, but the answer is the same. If you GFDL something, anybody can use it if they comply with the GFDL. <11> fireba11: right.. upload is nuch so a problem as download <3> Crissi: I'm on an adsl line, and I've never had that happen. <1> jjazz, well wiki is under GFDL and I've never seen any pornsite using their interface yet ;) <1> jjazz, so I guess it's waterproof <3> sifi-xz: I'm not familiar with the specifics of wiki's licensing, but I doubt they use the GFDL for their interface. Their content, sure, but probably not the interface. <1> jjazz, prolly the whole site <1> as is says <3> sifi-xz: It says "all text is available under the" GFDL. The interface isn't text. <1> jjazz, true <1> jjazz, the PHP code is not avalible? <3> sifi-xz: It's available, just under a different license. <1> jjazz, where can I find it? <3> sifi-xz: I don't know. Check wikimedia or ask google. <18> ack .. too many z's!
<3> abrotman: Getting sleepy? <18> jjazz: no ... not really <19> what filesystem do the driver-x.bin floppies in woody use? <20> abrotman: just use whiteout to cover up the zzzzzzzzz's <18> jjazz: i'm still not sure about tonight .. <21> !whiteout kspath <3> abrotman: Just do it. You'll be glad you did. It's entertainment and information. Tell your boss it's job-related training. <22> is it possible to get ssh to autologin to accounts wihtout asking for a p***phrase? i have it automounting fine but it requires a p***phrase question at loggin doubling the number of p***words they need to remember ... ? <23> why doesn't debian include nexuiz? <18> jjazz: it's not nearly job related :) <18> holy_cow: keys ? <3> abrotman: You don't use free software at work? This is a compliance issue. <18> ejofee: which is ? <18> jjazz: sure we do <12> somebody speak spanish <18> !es <10> Hispanohablantes: Por favor usen #debian-es, alli obtendran mas ayuda. Spanish Speakers: Please use #debian-es, there you will get much more help. <22> abrotman, i have rsa keys setup, but upon reboot at login they require a one time p***phrase input ... normally this is okay but i'm trying to simplify the number of p***words they need to remember <21> holy_cow: ssh key <12> thnks <14> I have 2 files in my home directory, --root, and --help. How do I delete them? <18> holy_cow: ssh keys have nothing to do with booting up <22> of course they don't <23> abrotman: a very nice, gpl'd, 3d shooter (resembling quake); it works as a network / internet multiplayer game. it is included in other distros. <22> they still require a one time p*** input at first login tho <18> ejofee: oh .. i remember that game <24> holy_cow: http://www.debian.org/devel/p***wordlessssh <25> i think my dhcpd has run out of leases and I'm sure some must be stale, how do i get it to check and flush the old leases? <22> okay lets try that ... i'm googled out <22> heh <18> ejofee: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=311479 <14> I got it. <22> oh okay, ssh-add only works for the current session your logged into <22> logout and log back in and to mount the ssh account you still need a one time p*** <26> http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=337637 this bug is still working for me with version 6.9 <27> Quick question.. I'm still learning debian, How do you find out it a station is using stable, testing, and so forth? <28> what should I do if lilo refuses to boot? <8> ejofee: and where is the source code for this 'gpl' game? <29> orlowsks: /etc/apt/sources.list <30> pyromatrx: what error? <28> instead of "LILO Booting.." it shows "LI", then freezes <30> !li <10> if 'LI' is printed when the system is booted, it means that your drive is probably too large (OR you simply forgot to run 'lilo'). There is a Large-disk-mini-howto. Read it.. Boot the rescue disk, edit lilo.conf and add 'lba32' then try again., or (if drive geometry has changed) try booting from the rescue disk, mounting /, and rerunning lilo. Or you could try grub instead. :) Lithium, or Liechtenstein. <27> Thank you lindii <3> abrotman: If you use free software at work, you need to keep abreast of the coming changes in the license. That makes it a job-related issue. <3> (think your boss will buy it?) <18> jjazz: that's not the topic of the speech <18> jjazz: http://dp.seas.upenn.edu/ <28> streuner: where do I view the large-disk-mini-howto? <18> jjazz: i mean .. it kind of is <27> But it shows both stable and testing listings <31> what's the channel name for irc administration? <18> #freenode ? <22> allright lets give this a try <28> !grub <10> i guess grub is [grub] Grand Unified Bootloader at http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/ . It's an extremely powerful boot loader that can boot a lot of OSes, understands a lot of filesystems including reiserfs.. Go here for an excellent step-by-step description of setting up grub on your system: http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=4622, or a distributed internet crawler. <18> secher: you driving tonight ? <30> pyromatrx: try www.tldp.org <32> abrotman: yes #freenode <31> abrotman: ?? <18> secher: to penn <18> secher: Moglen is speaking <23> valdyn: are you asking, or objecting? (just making sure) <28> streuner: thanks <3> abrotman: What's the stated topic, then? <31> abrotman: Really???? <18> jjazz: Eben Moglen presents From the GPL to the Free Society <18> secher: YES!!! <18> secher: but at 6pm <18> i usually work til 6pm or so <31> abrotman: Penn as in U of P or Penn State? <18> as in Penn .. <27> lindi: But it shows both stable and testing listings
