<0> user: beta
<1> ill be explaining it as if I were to talking to my grandma, so its n00b proof
<0> p***: maximus
<1> and Ill be doing it in the style of gamefaqs guides
<0> and yes, i know their are tables
<0> stupid premade templates
<2> on the left up to the register, on the right up to the corner and at the bottom with rounded corners... I know I'd be able to do that with a table but I'm not able to do that with CSS
<3> Riyonuk: good luck. you have to cover html andcss specs AND browser implementations of them
<1> well im just covering html
<4> Riyonuk: What style of writing are you going towards, immediately tell about all HTML tags, or reveal them as you go along?
<3> FloLeBlanc: I dont understand what you want it to look like. got a mockup?
<1> first I was just gonna list the tags and what they do :p
<4> Riyonuk: For some reason, I thinking about this in the context of a math book.
<2> munter: yes just a sec
<1> I dont know what Im going to do
<1> first DOCTYPE

<1> then head stuff
<4> Gah, I must go-- I'll be back in a short while.
<1> body then
<1> ok
<4> Interesting idea, though-- I'll try to think about it more.
<2> munter: http://www.billardcafe.at/shadeslokal.jpg
<1> Im thinking I should start with something smaller than html, like CMD for windows ^_^
<3> FloLeBlanc: Just do those dropshadows exactly the same way you did them on the page
<1> Munter: whats your opinion on the guide thing
<1> I know Im going to be using this channel a whole lot to write it
<2> munter: that was with a table! and if I put a table in the div it places it in the right column for what reason ever
<2> and that was my initial question which brings me to the start
<3> FloLeBlanc: uhm, ok. So why did you do that shadow with a table?
<3> you just need a variable height content shadow, and a footer shadow. exactly like your page
<2> Munter: because I don't know how to place a shadow like that via CSS
<2> http://new.billardcafe.at/index.php?id=9 => for the table problem
<5> !@#$
<6> Riyonuk, i did it! bit of a random "hey what happens if i put this here?" thing...
<6> http://c3x.net/design2/#
<3> FloLeBlanc: Well. Maybe this is the time to learn then. Is the page variable width?
<2> no the width stays the same but the height changes
<3> even better. Then you only need two images for the shadow
<0> why would border-collapse:collapse; not work for me
<0> but doing cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" work fine
<3> MACscr: meta questions arent possible to answer
<1> Xen0n: yeah
<7> Riyonuk: ping
<3> MACscr: your context is probably wrong
<1> mithro: yes?
<0> http://pastebin.ca/84090
<0> Munter: thats the snippet of html and css
<2> munter: will any tips follow?
<0> the headcontent cl*** is what im working with now
<3> FloLeBlanc: sure. have one 1px high image that has both left and right shadow and is the width of the page. set that as backround on a wrapper div to the page. Then just add an image of the bottom shadow in the footer. done
<3> MACscr: show me the actual page
<0> http://absreport.com/beta/
<0> user: beta
<0> p***: maximus
<3> The horror
<0> lol, i know, tables, sry, premade template
<3> rewrite it
<0> im already a day late on the deadline
<3> I cant even see where the problem is with all that crap code
<0> your saying you dont know how to read tables?
<1> XD
<4> Or.. don't want to do it for free, at least.
<0> designing with tables might not be the correct way to go, but its still valid
<0> lol, true
<0> =P
<2> munter: how to "center" the content in the "shadowdiv" now? http://new.billardcafe.at/index.php?id=4 (can't use margin, padding because of the width and IE/moz probs)
<0> eh, forget it, will just go back to the inline cellspacing, etc
<2> munter: ah.. found a way
<1> Man I gotta a serious questions
<1> it bothers me sooo much
<1> if you had a personal site, would you copyright it as your real name or username? would you make keywords include your username or real name
<1> Its bugging me soooo much
<0> looks like 90% of my issues on my page are because of border-collapse not working for me
<0> im just going through and adding cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" to those tables and its fixing everything, woo hoo
<0> i hate to do it, but i cant keep wasting hours messing with trying to get border-collapse to work right
<1> your layout is tables right?

<0> most of it, yes
<8> TABLES! NO! DIV DIV DIV
<1> then you should die...
<0> you should **** my left nut
<0> i am just working with what i was given
<8> MACscr: you should **** my right one
<1> it boggles my mind on how you guys do tables for layout, I mean its soo advanced for me, all that td, tr, tf crap
<1> MACscr: I wouldnt call us names, youll start a flame war and bad things will happen to you
<0> i didnt call anyone a name
<8> Tables are too advanced for you to comprehend?
<1> I can comprehend them just find, just I dont see how people can stand all that code
<0> how many times do i have to state that this is not my design
<1> -_- you told me to **** your left nut
<0> lol, how is that calling names?
<1> but you are designing it, no?
<0> didnt you say i should die?
<0> no, i am modifying it
<0> completely different
<1> from css to tables?
<0> lol, no, it was originally tables
<1> MACscr: I did say you should die, cause tables design people should
<1> and your making it from tables into css?
<8> Riyonuk: if you can't grasp a concept as simple as tables (all be it using tables for layouts is a bad design habbit) then you shouldn't be helping anyone
<1> I can grasp it
<0> i design xhtml 1.1 strict (with divs, etc) when i design from scratch 99% of the time
<1> and who knows how many people Ive helped
<1> MACscr: you better :p
<4> XHTML 1.1?!?!
<4> IE doesn't even support XHTML!
<4> http://hixie.ch/advocacy/xhtml
<1> who cares about IE
<8> IE ****s
<4> Yes. Yes it does.
<7> I use tables all the time! but then i'm a programmer not a web designer
<0> ok guys, im sorry, i was just trying to get some help, im not trying to cause problems
<1> mithro: and thats why I decided to help you, lol
<8> MACscr: your're not even a mac user, you bring shame to your nickname
<7> Riyonuk: yeah, it's very much appreciated
<1> ..moving on
<0> lol, MAC is my initials
<0> and i have had this screen name since 93
<1> XD
<8> then go buy a powerbook or get your name legally changed
<8> :)
<1> mine used to be super_kridley...
<0> ah, i figured it was "tables_should_die"
<2> Munter: are you still there? I have some problems applying the bottom shade
<3> FloLeBlanc: I am. at what url?
<2> http://new.billardcafe.at/
<2> left and right is ok but if I just put the bottomshade in the bottom div IE displays the background of the div above again
<2> and if I use it as background image I see nothing :)
<3> ah yes. you need the image to actually be below your footer. It is there, jus behind the footer :)
<8> leave the middle name like it is but get the first name changed to Frank and the last name changed to Gerson
<3> Just insert that background div below your footer, and have your footer inside the div that creates the left/right shadow
<8> then your initials suite you better
<0> lol, damn you guys are cruel =P
<2> munter: bottompart is the footer, then I close the "seite2" div and below I insert the shade?
<3> FloLeBlanc: yes
<2> this is the way I do it now :)
<2> *checks back*
<2> yep
<2> shadowbottom is outside the "left-and-right-background" div but inside the "all is in the center" div
<2> won't work for me :(
<3> FloLeBlanc: ah, you are floating your #bottompart. This is why
<3> Dotn float it
<9> my php page won't validate because there is an <input> tag right after the <form> and it's not wrapped in a div. the problem is that i am wrapping the inputs in a div, but the PHPSESSID is being placed automatically as a hidden input by php and it's inserting it right before my div.
<10> Hey guys
<9> seems to happen no matter how close I put the <div> tag to the <form>
<10> Is there not a way to have a % height?
<10> I'm working on a two column layout and it looks strange to have the two columns different sizes.
<10> FedorEmelianenko: That is strange
<10> FedorEmelianenko: Are you using a CMS?
<9> nope
