<0> hehehe
<0> "what's your p***word?" backspace, delete, enter escape printscreen. good luck :-P
<1> alright can someone else here verify that they can install the "kernel-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL.src.rpm" and afterwards issue "rpmbuild -bp --target=i686 kernel-2.6.spec" (in /usr/src/redhat/SPECS) without error?
<2> join /scsi
<1> nevermind that the src.rpm can't be installed unless you create the /usr/src/redhat directory manually
<3> Evolution: didn't realize you were in here
<4> jcollins: that points to a larger issue you have
<0> jcollins: eh? you should not have to manually create that if you have the rpm-build tools installed.
<0> joepa: :-P
<0> how's it going man?
<1> they were installed after getting the src.rpm installed
<0> and when the hell did you move up to harvard?
<1> I just find it annoying that the package isn't capable of creating the directories it needs on it's own
<3> Evolution: I've been at Harvard for just a few months
<1> donavan, what larger issue?

<3> I'll be here for at least a couple years, though
<4> Evolution: you can use control chacacters in your p***words, just like vi, ctrl v to insert a literal -- including <return> or newline
<4> jcollins: what is the output of this command "rpm -q rpm-build" on your box?
<1> # rpm -q rpm-build
<1> rpm-build-4.3.3-13_nonptl
<0> jcollins: rpm -V rpm-build
<1> nothing returned from that
<4> building as root is bad (tm)
<0> jcollins: then you should not have had to create that dir structure, as it's provided by that rpm
<2> hello. I'm trying to hook up a scsi array through an Adaptec ASC-39320A U320 card using the driver provided in centos 4.3. However, I am experiencing problems with the driver seeing partitions larger than 2TB. I found a lot of information on the internet, dated last year, that confirms the problem with the drivers. I was wondering if anyone knows of a solution or alternate drivers. I did check adaptec's site, but their drivers are suspect...
<1> Evolution, as I said before... rpm-build was installed /after/ installing the kernel src.rpm
<2> the driver bein aic79xx
<1> donavan, it's good to know that building as root is bad... but how else would you unpack and prep the kernel source using src.rpm?
<2> sorry, what i meant to say was: the driver i am currently using is aic79xx
<0> jcollins: by reading the rpm.org documentation which describes setting up a non-root build environment
<0> fwiw, kernel buildprep works fine here.
<1> that's also good to know... however, it doesn't really address the main problem at hand... that being that the src.rpm doesn't appear to be buildable... care to validate or invalidate my findings?
<0> I just did. it works fine here.
<1> using the same commands?
<0> rpm -i kernel*.src.rpm ; cd build/SPECS ; rpmbuild -bp kernel-2.6.spec --target=i686
<0> works fine here.
<0> note that this does not BUILD the kernel. it merely preps it in the buildroot
<0> and applies all the patches.
<1> yea, that's exactly what I want... just extracted and patched
<4> therefore my previous comment applies
<0> as stated earlier. when you have all teh build requirements in place, it works fine
<4> did you do the group install ?
<1> and those requirements are?
<1> installing 88 Meg of shotgun devel files isn't requirements...
<0> donavan: I think we're both forgetting about our policy of not supporting kernel rebuilds
<5> jcollins: --getsource does not work for CentOS ... we have our SRPMS dir above the $ARCH dirs as they apply to all SRCHEs
<1> hughesjr, yet your release notes indicates using them
<5> ARCHes that should say
<4> jcollins: we can't change the releases notes (if you bothered reading that part)
<5> actually ... those are RH release notes
<5> jcollins ... my distro ... I do as i like... you are free to use RHEL :)
<5> (and pay them $2499.00
<1> you are free to do as you like
<1> and you just lost a user...
<5> --getsource works tehn
<6> gee, that seems like such a loss.
<0> jcollins: as previously said, upstream does not list all buildrequires for the kernel. running that command WILL get you what you need. if you're unwilling, then you get to figure it out yourself.
<0> damn.
<5> sorry
<4> he prolly can't install 88megs on his asterisk/trixbox
<5> I have been watch orc_orc lately
<5> so my typing ****s ... and I am quite tempermental
<5> :P
<0> haha
<5> he is probably the ****er that has been hacking my website anyway :P
<0> hughesjr: yeah, you need to do something about that :-P
<5> obviously I pissed somebody off
<4> Results 1 - 10 of about 409,000 for "Server: Apache/2.0.52 (CentOS)"
<0> hughesjr: yeah, but of any of the people here.. you'd be the least likely for that...
<6> yes, orc_orc is in a bad mood _all_ the time.
<4> $ wget -S http://www.acdmis.com/ 2>&1 |grep CentOS ---->>>>> Server: Apache/2.0.52 (CentOS)
<5> hehehe
<4> keep an eye on that

<6> donavan: do you really care that much?
<4> I'm easily amused
<0> Zathrus: the word for the day is "Stalker"
<4> Evolution can't always be the target
<0> :-P
<5> WOW
<4> hughesjr: will you put this in centos 4.4 http://www.bootsplash.org/
<6> Evolution: nah, the word for the day is "sick"
<0> heh
<5> this guy wants me to "click here" to add length and width to the size of my johnson ... and it's free
<7> I am the calm one here
<5> should I click
<5> :)
<4> he ownz ur website too?
<0> smooge: yes, and that says something about the environment now doesn't it. ;-)
<5> how does crap like that make it through spam******in?
<4> spam ******in is down the hall
<6> heh
<0> OMG WTF WONT U GUYS HELP ME!!!!!1111111
<4> go complain to them -- and then " and you just lost a user..."
<6> Evolution: yes. First, press the CAPS LOCK key.
<8> Hi
<4> I want a pony
<9> donavan, maybe you can try for a pony later
<0> I want pony glue
<9> Evolution, maybe you can try for a pony later
<5> hughesjr pets the pretty pony
<4> pony, what is the time?
<9> donavan its Hammer Time
<5> :P
<8> I'm trying to install ppp-2.4.3-5.rhel4.i386.rpm on my 4.2 system. But it is conflicting with my current pppd. here is a sample error message: file /usr/include/pppd/ccp.h from install of ppp-2.4.3-5.rhel4 conflicts with file from package ppp-2.4.2-6.4.RHEL4
<10> 397 25133
<5> iq: are both those RPMS from centos
<8> hughesjr: The site from where I downloaded it said that it is for CentOS 4
<6> iq: and what site would that be?
<8> Zathrus: Let me search again :)... I downloaded it over the weekend
<8> Zathrus: I know it says "rhel4" but the link said it is for CentOS 4 :)
<6> you _really_ should be using yum
<8> Zathrus: yum doesn't have newer ppp. I need newer ppp to install ppppd (poptop).
<4> iq: there is not such package as 2.4.3
<4> s/not/no
<4> for centos 4
<11> hughesjr: we're not all ***holes over at acdmis.com
<8> Will it be safe if I build ppp 2.4.3 from the source?
<4> jsuther: continue this discussion in #centos-social
<11> he a debain zealot we are trying to convert
<4> iq, you can do as you wish -- when it breaks all over the place you get to keep the pieces
<8> donavan: yeah - I've heard this before.
<4> at least there's some consistancy
<10> consistancy is the hobgoblin of _little_ minds
<8> Anyone here using ppptd?
<5> jsuther: no problem ... :)
<8> pptd :)
<8> pptpd
<12> hii
<12> !
<12> somone can help me
<12> ?
<8> hi Ikki

<4> yes, start by reading the topic
<8> Ikki: ask
