<0> if you need an additional hint -- search for debug
<1> If you're going to be an *** why not be a correct one.
<0> I am.
<1> typing / then debug....
<1> would that work?
<1> :P
<0> depends on your pager.
<2> works here by default.
<1> I wonder if it's the protectbase plugin that's causing this.
<1> Where is my global exclude list kept?
<2> in your left hip pocket, just beside your cell phone.
<1> gah
<2> excludes are in yum.conf, and the individual repo files.
<1> why is perl-* excluded in yum.conf? :9
<0> Evolution: how'd you know my cell phone is in my left pocket?

<1> So is his hand.
<2> Mazzer: that's between you and whoever set up your box.
<0> Mazzer: dunno, that's not default.
<2> Mazzer: if you're using cpanel, ispconfig, or some other control panel, that would likely be why
<1> Why does cpanel choose to **** everything up by default?
<1> :9
<2> ask them.
<1> Why can't I hit shift and 9 at once?
<2> because you're deficient in some capacity?
<3> Try using the/other/ shift?
<1> My right hand is clearly overused.
<1> Thanks for the hints, sarcasm but overall good advice.
<1> Brick wall is surmounted.
<0> sarcasm is free here. The rest is optional.
<2> Mazzer: you only think you're over the wall.
<2> if cpanel is on that box, you'll quickly learn that it uses non-standard httpd, which will continue to **** up nagios
<2> you're not over the wall, you're perched on top realizing how far the fall is going to be.
<1> httpd is not as arcane to me as yum is.
<1> This wall is mah bitch.
<0> ultimately, you need to figure out what modified yum.conf to exclude those packages.
<4> cpanel, apparently
<5> Just ran up2date to install the "bind" update for CentOS 4, got the following "warning: /etc/rndc.key created as /etc/rndc.key.rpmnew". Why do I get this warning, and what do I need to do to fix it?
<0> neopathseitz: you got the warning because your rndc.key was modified, so instead of overwriting it with the new one it placed the new one as .rpmnew -- figure out the differences and merge if appropriate.
<5> The difference is the "secret" field. The original has a long string, the new version just has "@KEY@". I don't know whether I should replace that field or not.
<2> neopathseitz: you should not need to worry about it. although @KEY@ is supposed to be replaced by an actual key.
<2> simply test to make sure that bind still functions properly and rndc correctly reports status
<5> "rndc status" looks good. I guess I'll ignore the ".rpmnew" version for now.
<2> you can safely delete/ignore the .rpmnew then
<5> Evolution: Thanks, I appreciate the help.
<6> centos Question: I have a remote server running centos 4, a dual-HT xeon box which went down unexpectedly twice now. According the admins there, the first time it had a message about "Do you have a strange power saving mode enabled on CPU0?" on the screen a few times when it crashed. Any tips what this is about?
<7> hey guys, whats up?
<7> i have a little problem with centos 4.4
<7> the in.telnetd is dropping new conections when the numbers of users is 61.
<7> any sugestion?
<0> for the love of god, don't use telnet?
<7> is a aplication that run under telnet.
<6> hophet: sounds like an xinetd limit
<7> yes, i just read the man page , but no success
<6> hophet: see /etc/xinetd.conf
<0> yup
<6> mine shows "instances = 60"
<0> hophet: read it again :)
<6> very coincidental
<6> see 'man xinetd.conf'
<0> or just man xinetd
<0> different, but the pertinent limit is in both
<7> wow, really
<6> yes
<7> sorry , and lot of thanks!
<7> clever boys !
<7> :]
<7> i was blind
<8> xeeble: was there anything else in the logs when your server went down?
<9> hi :)
<6> yeah lemme pastebin it carlisle
<6> I'm trying a kernel upgrade - I was running one from a while ago
<8> that may do it :)

<6> http://pastebin.ca/344311
<8> obviously its dazed and confused :)
<6> I'm not the only person to have seen it :)
<8> I've never seen the error myself. Is this issued by X?
<10> No. The kernel.
<8> Googling suggests a memory parity error
<0> yup
<10> It received a non maskable interrupt.
<10> <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-Maskable_Interrupt>;
<0> or some kind of memory issue
<8> xeeble have you tried running memtest86 ?
<6> carlisle: no, good idea.
<11> why can't i see kernels from centosplus repository
<11> using yum
<0> note that even if memtest doesn't show issues, that's not a clean bill of health.
<0> memtest is notorious for not showing anything that's vaguely heat related, for example.
<8> is the server located in a good envirnoment?
<0> no, it's in a broken, alcoholic home.
<8> doh
<11> anyone know how to tell yum protectplugin allow certain packages to be overwritten by 3rd parity repos ,
<6> carlisle: I just saw your post about a possible memory parity error
<0> zapw: you can't, that's the purpose of the plugin. You have to disable plugins and upgrade the ones ou want.
<9> hi, i have a asterisk running on centos 4.4 (trixbox), i need to recompile zaptel and as i see, it was installed with a rpm package. I dowloaded the src from zaptel and the kernel headers and tryied to compile it but in the make it brings syntax errors in the src. Any idea how can i fix this problem ?
<12> hello :) How can I do a custom iso with Centos ?
<2> x-ip: depends on what errors you're getting. use a pastebin to show us
<2> CaspeR-: that's not something we help with. There's plenty of documentation on the web
<2> CaspeR-: but we have enough trouble with people selling crap they call centos but isn't.
<9> Evolution it says that is a string error in the kernel sources, its impossible
<12> Evolution: ok ...
<2> x-ip: that depends. there was a typo in spinlock a while back which caused similar things
<2> x-ip: however if the running kernel is a different version than the kernel source used to build zaptel then you may also get issues
<9> Evolution its the same version, i pay attention on it
<12> Evolution: I don`t find that doc that you told me ...
<2> x-ip: you can either ask the zaptel folks for support, or you can pastebin the error and put the link here. I'll try to help if I can, but I don't use asterisk/zaptel
<2> CaspeR-: well, that ****s for you then. redhat has an anaconda mailing list full of archives and discussion on building isos.
<13> I don't have rpmbuild, how do I get it with yum?
<14> try using the provides and/or search options with yum
<14> the man page has a list of those and more options
<13> I did yum search rpmbuild and didn't find anything
<13> I have dag enabled
<14> you don't need dag, it's in the base repo
<0> what's the default stty erase setting in CentOS3 ?
<13> Public key for rsync-2.6.9-1.el4.rf.i386.rpm is not installed
<13> anyone know how to fix this?
<0> xp_: yes, read the topic.
<0> or, actually, read the rpmforge page on how to use their repo
<13> Zathrus I followed the instruction and did rpm --import http://mirror.centos.org/centos/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-4 yet it still fails to install rsync with the same error
<13> any ideas how to proceed?
<0> or, actually, read the rpmforge page on how to use their repo
<15> Can I use trusted repos that I used for Fedora Core to install stuff in centos? (I imagine that I should be able to frome what I've seen about the compatibilty with the upstream product, just want to be sure)
<0> mepolarbear: no.
<0> CentOS != FC
<0> mepolarbear: http://wiki.centos.org/Repositories
<15> Zathrus: Understood. :-(
<16> mepolarbear: use http://centos.karan.org/
<0> mmcgrath: that's referenced on the wiki page
<16> ahh
<15> Zathrus: Just not seeing apps like gnucash and other useful apps. Though there are many other useful apps for other things...
<0> mepolarbear: using FC repos on RHEL is a guaranteed way to hose yourself as well
<17> pony !
<17> hey pony any centos5 news
<15> Zathrus: 'Preciate the heads up, thus my asking. :-) I am not usually into borking things on purpose. I learned with FC not to do that without checking with the experts first.
<0> mepolarbear: gnucash 1.8 is available from one of the aforementioned 3rd party repos; unsure if anyones gotten 2.0 to compile yet.
<15> Zathrus: Do you know which 3rd party repo exactly? I have rpmforge setup already, though I may have missed it in the list.
<0> kbs
<0> as mmcgrath pointed you twoard :)
<18> pony; whats the latest on centos 5 please?
<9> i need a favor, someone can compile the zaptel source and make a rpm with it ? its needed to have the kernel headers installed
<15> Zathrus: I'm sorry, I missed it. Sorry. :-S
<9> its a modified version from zaptel, so i will bring the source for whose will help me
<0> mepolarbear: np
<19> hello, is there any new about CentOS 5
