<0> does the windows dns server use the same format for configuring zones in the zone files?
<1> hi guys
<1> added zone for my webserver coz I wanted to access it with http:/domain.name but bind falls short and cant resolve it ... I know (for sure) that I overlooked someting and wondering if you have some ideas where to look ?
<1> nslookup shows correct IP of server but I still cant acccess it with url name
<1> ideas
<1> ?
<1> everybody sleeps ?

<2> hi
<1> hello
<1> do you have any ideas regarding my problem?
<1> ikaro, ?
<2> yes ?
<2> which problem
<2> gime a sec to read ..
<1> sure
<2> well
<2> iirc, you need a A record for the box, then a reverse entry from the ip to host
<1> I have it
<2> dig A <hostname>
<2> gives the ip ?
<1> just a sec
<1> yes..points to my IP address
<1> keep in mind this is dns for my LAN only
<2> yes
<2> im a bit rusty with this stuff
<2> sd
<2> ups
<1> ikaro, you see I have web server that i use for testing purpouses and its registreted with dyndns ..
<2> yes i understand
<1> if I access it out side of my LAN web server works
<2> i have a small lan with 5 boxes myselv
<1> but from inside no go
<1> ahh yes
<1> then you know what I am talking about
<2> which dns are you using to resolv the name
<2> your isp ?

<1> no
<1> my own dns
<2> ok
<2> right
<1> all machines on lan are using this dns machine to access everything
<1> speeds up things
<2> if I type http://web it opens my webserver
<2> inside the lan
<2> i just used the host file
<1> where web is ... web IN A nameofmachine ?
<2> web is the hostname of the web server
<1> ok
<2> 192.168.0.3 web
<1> I made a zone for mine where I use full domain name
<2> right
<1> like so gentoo.hobby-site.com
<1> if you try to access it it gives you my default page
<2> s
<2> ill try that and see how it goes .. give me 10 min :D
<1> oki
<1> I know it works ..tested it my self, and funny thing all these things were working on my old server (made new one 1 week ago)
<2> oh well ..
<2> im doing stuff wrong '
<2> sorry cant help.
<3> anyone ever setup a plublic dns server for a domain?
<2> he left
<2> oh well..
<2> i guess i sorted this out ..
<4> named starts on boot before ppp0 is up, then when ppp0 does come up it never answers queries on ppp0's ip because it couldn't listen on <ip>:53 - probably because it's no longer running as root?
<4> is there a way to fix this without having to run it as root?
<4> it already listens on 0.0.0.0:53/:::53, it's just ignoring everything
<5> good afternoon #bind
<5> anyone around on a Sunday?
<5> I'd like to log all my requests to a file....
<5> anyone done it at all?
<5> ah, done it
