<0> Hi. Having a bit of a problem installing to a sata. I have the drivers on a floppy, I install the drivers during setup, but when it comes to choosing the hard drive to install to, it lists my sata as an "Unknown disk or device". Any ideas? <1> Its not loading the SATA drivers <1> you hit F6 on first install screen? <2> You're not pressing F6 to load the drivers as it instructs *before* you get that far <2> But then again, maybe you are <0> yes, i am <0> i go through the sata installation <1> maybe your choosing the wrong set of drivers on the floppy <0> choose the XP sata drivers from the disk <0> etc <0> the only choices are xp, 2003, 2000, me, etc <0> very frustrating <2> They're all the same drivers, basically <0> :( <2> Except the ME ones, of course <2> 2K/XP/2K3 are the same
<0> nt base <0> yeah <3> Me in the file would be easier and i have done atleast 4 failed semesters and 3 good ones. <0> so technically <0> if i've got the drivers on disk <0> and i go through F6 <0> i shouldn't be having a problem <0> Promise SATA378 Driver V1.00.0.26 (ATA Mode) <0> those drivers, in particular <0> suppose i'll just try it again <0> thanks anyway <0> :/ <4> is this onvoard sata? <4> er onboard <0> yes <0> but the drivers aren't there <0> whenever i install windows on my ide <4> did you get the driveers from promise or from the manufacturer of your boards site <0> i have to install the drivers by hand to see my satas <0> board <4> if you tried one try the other i guess <4> what baor dis this <0> asus k8v se deluxe <2> I'd say install it on the IDE, then install the SATA drivers while in Windows, then switch the drives... should be ok <0> switch the drives? <2> Controllers, then <0> i'm afraid i don't follow <2> Nevermind, it probably wouldn't work anyway <2> Could work with an image of the drive but, that's an entirely different can of worms at this point <4> hmm <4> are you sureyou don't need via sata drivers <0> well <0> i might <0> when i checked the asus site however <0> the only available package from VIA <0> was around 8mb <4> after trying with Promise and ASUS driverdisks, I finally tried the DriveStation driver from VIA (which, according to VIA, is a correct driver for the VT8237 Integrated Serial ATA RAID controller (which is the SATA controller on this board). <0> hm <0> googling right now <4> download DriveStation from VIA Arena (choose Downloads > Drivers from menu, select Windows XP, select IDE, RAID & SATA, select VT8237 Integrated Serial ATA RAID Controller, Click on the Drive Station image at the bottom of the page to download) <2> Sounds like something to try <4> extract the ZIP-file and copy the contents of the DriverDisk-folder (without that folder) to a floppy. <0> downloading now <0> ok <0> thanks a lot <0> i'll try it out and see what happens <0> :) <0> much appreciated <5> heh, via <6> go back to your brew <2> Toss that bot <6> that wasmy thouhgts of the last dozzen <7> damn man how can i get out of this helpdesk job i beein in for 1year grrr, 2nd line doesnt pay much more. damn my life suxxxxx <2> Get in line, son <7> ha <7> im 26 now <7> life is going no where, the pay stinks too <4> yep <2> Then change it <7> all i do is logg calls or fix word /outlook problems grrr <7> and i aint even good at that
<2> That's amazing... help desk actually helping people... go figure <8> quick question: anyone know how to get around "access denied" in winxp recovery console? says this when I try to get into the windows folder <2> You can't do anything outside of root or the Windows folder in the Recovery Console <2> So if you try to access anything other than those two folders/directories, it won't happen <8> then what's the purpose of recovery console? <2> To fix issues in the Windows folder where Windows lies <2> Or to access tools in that folder to repair stuff like the boot sector, etc <8> oh i misread what you said <8> I'm trying to access the windows folder <8> but I cannot get into it <8> it says access denied <8> if that's one of the only folders i'm supposed to be able to access, why can't I? <2> Ok, did you log into the Adminstrator account properly? <8> that's one problem, it doesn't prompt me for a p***word <2> Not a good sign <8> just gives me a command prompt <8> well the windows partition is on D: <8> so i'm thinking that's not helping <2> It'll usually ask you which Windows installation (typically just 1) and then the Admin p*** <2> Could have something to do with it, sure <8> yeah i've used it before and this is the first time I've gotten this problem <8> i can't do a repair either, it doesn't find the windows installation <8> which i'm thinking my also have to do with D: <2> Ouch <8> i ran a chkdisk <8> it fixed some problems, <2> So what's the issue that prompted you to get into the Recovery Console in the first place? <8> or said it did at least <8> user says they cannot get into windows <8> so i boot it up <8> sure enough <8> it crashes before "loading windows xp" <8> where you have the white line going across <8> gives a windows\system\config error <9> sounds like a job for repair install. <2> Well, the only option would be to completely reinstall Windows at this point I guess... why is Windows on D: anyway, an error or was that on purpose? <8> I didn't install it :-/ <2> He can't do a repair install either, he just said that <8> just tyring to fix it <8> trying* <2> How long has that installation of Windows been on that drive, just to ask <9> oh, sorry. I never read scrollback. ;D <8> don't know, didn't ask the user. I was trying to do a system restore via recovery console <2> Tell 'em it's time for a completely clean install... they'll think it's a new PC when they see how fast it is :P <8> yeah <8> well they have 2000 itunes songs apparently <3> Apparently there is righteousness in this channel hasn't done much good to know how often they got to talk about the breadfish. They are so marvelous! <8> so i'm gonna have to back those up, but I"m not sure how touchy itunes is with moving files around <3> But i am not a me. A clever heeb? <2> When they reinstall iTunes, they'll have to reauthorize the computer, that will let them listen to the old music if it's purchased <2> If it's just stuff they ripped themselves, won't be an issue <3> It's hard to forget about them, i am terribly sorry my friend! <8> mm, k that's comforting <8> yeah ripped music isn't a problem <8> just worried about purchases <2> Only requires reauthorizing if it's purchased, but even so they can only do so many computers when reauthorizing <2> DRM ****s <2> People with iTunes should just rip to mp3, never have those problems... and never purchase music from iTunes either :P <3> They should have to be honest. <8> i always am amazed at when people tell me they buy their music <8> i'd be broke if I bought all the music I have <2> I don't mind paying for it, I mind paying for it with conditions on usage <8> itunes has like 5 burns policy or something right? <3> 17 A is the right of the directories on my machine - but to be like. <2> No idea, never burned anything from iTunes <2> I don't use it myself, even when I did own an iPod, used Ephpod for music transfers <3> Of course. You want to *** myself up, you will be the mother of my personal images. This image is under copyright and there was never any contact from the owner of the cutscenes have anything to do my business then have a report of a micra. <8> i love itunes for remote music playing <8> all my music is stored on my win2k3 server <3> I love itunes for awhile. <8> so my other 4 workstations on my domain use mydocs redirect <8> so when I open up itunes, all my music is linked together
