<Segmental> Does anyone have that site or document that talks about Dell Latitude C600 EEPROM resetting? I know it had to do with shorting 2 pins and all that fun.
<compdoc> reset the cmos?
<Segmental> Does anyone have that site or document that talks about Dell Latitude C600 EEPROM resetting? I know it had to do with shorting 2 pins and all that fun. The reason why I am saying this is because my boss's laptop has Admin p***word set in the BIOS and the guy he bought it from on ebay did not give him the p*** and i tried the other methods including latitude.exe and latitude_MasterPW.exe. I know the site exists somewhere but I can't find it via goo
<naphtali> Why not remove the main battery and the CMOS battery?
<Segmental> this is a laptop dude
<naphtali> And?
<Segmental> uh
<Segmental> read above?
<Segmental> i told u i did all the friggin NORMAL ways of resetting p***words
<Segmental> Dell's laptops store the p***word in NVRAM
<Segmental> u cant reset it w/o... 1) the admin p*** 2) replacing eeprom 3) shorting pins 3 and 6 to reset it which is dangerous)
<cmartin> Just built a new pc, using a hard drive that already has winXP installed on it... everything works fine.. when i get to the windows installer I try formating using NTFS it stops at 0% and never goes beyond this.. also tried quick and it does the same thing only at 20%
<cmartin> any ideas
<compdoc> might want to run a memory test:
<compdoc> http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
<compdoc> if the drive is sharing the ribbon cable, put it by istself
<cmartin> alright i'll give it a hook
<cmartin> thanks
<BoGGeYMaN> hello
<TopBanana> how can i go about troubleshooting a problem whereby i can connect to the internet in safe mode with networking, but cant seem to do so in normal mode?
<Xnomar> TopBanana you probably have some serious spyware
<TopBanana> i actually think its due to the onecare beta i installed as problems started immediately afte
<TopBanana> r
<TopBanana> after*
<compdoc> uninstall it
<Xnomar> never heard of that beta
<TopBanana> the uninstall failed
<Xnomar> reinstall and try to uninstall again
<TopBanana> i cant get on the internet to reinstall it
<TopBanana> (it requires an internet connection to install)
<Xnomar> haha that ****s
<TopBanana> yep
<TopBanana> even tried a repair install of xp and that didnt have any effect
<Xnomar> can you ping 4.2.2.2
<TopBanana> in safe mode or normal mode?
<Xnomar> normal
<TopBanana> havent given it a go, but i doubt it as my network card isnt even getting an ip address from my router
<TopBanana> doesnt even come up with a private ip address, just remains blank
<Xnomar> ahh. no dhcp..your tcp/ip stack is fubared
<Xnomar> put in ip addy manually
<TopBanana> i cant get into the properties to do so
<Xnomar> set ip in safe mode then
<TopBanana> but the settings dont get saved back in normal mode do they?
<Xnomar> i would think they would be saved
<Xnomar> my experience is this. if dhcp don't work on just one pc on the network chances are it's a corrupt tcpip stack. i've installed netbuei and removed tcpip and rebooted. then readded tcpip and all was good. there is a util on the net to do the same automatically
<Xnomar> can't remember the darn name though
<TopBanana> doesnt netsh int ip reset do the same thing?
<Xnomar> i've tried that in the same scenario and it didnt' work
<TopBanana> so how'd you do it your way?
<Xnomar> add netbuei first and remove tcpip..reboot and change back
<TopBanana> the other weird thing is (and i believe its related), is that my username doesnt appear in the users tab of the taskmanager
<Xnomar> it installs new tcpip files
<TopBanana> neither does the 'system' username appear next to running processes
<Xnomar> wow, unless you have the option chosen to not display your username means you have some issues i've never seen
<TopBanana> no its not that, because they seem to appear after a very long time
<Xnomar> you might have other issues. i htough just dhcp wasn't working to give ip
<TopBanana> god knows what onecare installs so im not sure myself
<Xnomar> never heard of onecare..what is it?
<TopBanana> MS's new "do everything to protect your pc" software
<TopBanana> http://www.windowsonecare.com/
<Xnomar> haha, didn't anyone tell you 'windows is the virus' heh
<Xnomar> it says 'smooth h***le free product' yeah right..haha
<TopBanana> you learn from your mistakes - and this was a big one!
<TopBanana> to be fair it is a beta product
<Xnomar> maybe try a system restore point
<TopBanana> i turned that feature off years ago
<Xnomar> heh same here
<[M]ax> Good afternoon Liss!
