<6> hey, for some reason on my other computer when i turn it on, the xp status bar goes by really fast, shows the xp screen for a couple seconds, then restars
<7> press f8 on boottime and choose "Disable automatic restart on system failure"
<7> it should stop on a blue screen then
<7> tell us the error message and errorcode then
<8> Small question, im trying to share a folder on a win 2003 server, an xp server needs to map it as drive. the 2003 server can connect to the xp server, but the xp doesnt see the 2003 one
<3> in Microsoft outlook when i get the message 'contact service provider' what could be the problem? i'm using ADSL
<3> 2003
<7> be more specific, both of you
<7> JacobZuma, where do you get that msg?
<7> and i'm sure there is more than just "contact service provider"
<3> after i click send n receive
<8> who, me Ta1oN?
<7> you too, yes
<7> JacobZuma, check the mail account settings (username, p***word, pop3 server address...)
<7> Wes\Work, how does the "xp server" not see the 2003 server?
<7> are you using network neighbourhood or unc-paths?
<8> I have a folder, wich I want to share. the folder is a 2003 server, download1 named. I need download2, the xp server to map the share, or reach the share / map at all
<7> also is it a domain or a workgroup?
<8> workgroup
<7> both can ping each other?
<8> when I do \\download2 on download 1, it ask for p***. so thats conencting, but not visa versa
<8> yes they can ping eachother
<7> don't use the netbios name, use the ip instead
<7> \\123.123.123.123\sharename
<7> and also make sure the useraccount you are using is existant on BOTH machines
<8> did that also, no work
<8> true, didnt do that yet. but.. it should be at least be able to connect right?
<7> not if it has no permission to do so
<8> even with the exact same p***words
<7> sharepermissions, ntfspermissions could prevent that

<7> also simple file sharing in case of xp could be a problem
<7> also check for firewalls and make sure you can reach the share from the pc it is on
<7> i.e. try to access the share on the 2k3 server from the 2k3 server
<8> done the last step
<7> if it can't reach itself, xp won't reach it either
<8> im trying the p***words now 1 sec
<7> on the 2k3 server: go to start->run->\\127.0.0.1\sharename
<8> hmm, if it were behind a firewall.. what ports would I need to open?
<7> does that work?
<7> different ports...
<8> yes 127.0.0.1 works
<7> and you are using the SAME useraccount on xp that you are logged on the 2k3 machine?
<8> when using the IP it does not
<7> hm, sounds like firewall problem
<8> so guess theres a problem already
<7> what firewall are you using?
<8> I know its behind a firewall actually, but.. the other server might be already allowed to connect
<8> wolverine firewall
<7> !google wolverine firewall
<2> http://www.coyotelinux.com/products.php?Product=wolverine
<8> thats the one
<8> im already at the web interface
<8> but now, the rules to allow it
<7> tcp 139, tcp 445, udp 137, udp 138
<8> one server is in it already, I ***ume if that one is behind the same server
<8> thx for your time btw. :
<8> :)

<9> hi, i have my C drive set to ntfs, now i recently installed a new motherboard and xp won't boot...I have a win98 bootdisk which i used to boot into dos and start the xp setup, but after copying the files onto my D drive ( which dos sees as C ), it reboots and says error loading os
<9> any help on how to install xp/
<7> if you changed your motherboard, it is unlikely you can boot this installation (you could manually exchange the hal, but that is too much to do, especially over irc)
<7> i.e. you should do a complete new clean install
<7> and to do that, boot with the xp cd, delete all the partitions and create a new one, then follow onscreen instructions
<9> delete all partitions ? i got data on the other partitions
<7> then backup them
<9> and don't have a spare hdd, or burner
<7> or just delete the partition with windows
<9> how ?
<7> tbh, you should have thought about that before you bought a new computer
<7> ?? backup
<9> when i use fdisk, it gets stuck
<2> backup == ALWAYS backup your important files, BEFORE it is to late!
<7> you don't use fdisk... i said boot with the xp cd
<7> it has it's own partition tool
<9> ah ok
