<Entrope> alright thnx guys <odine> probably a stupid question.. but windows xp 64bit version will run all older 32bit applications fine right? <Thanatos2> odine im sure microsoft will screw that up so they dont work well <odine> well im considering installing it on a friends 64 bit amd.. but not if he is gonna have problems.... perhaps ill just stay 32bit for now then <Thanatos2> dont take my word for it <Thanatos2> i dont use and have never used a 64 bit system <Sith_Lord> 32os bit on a 64 bit system is fine <Sith_Lord> it will simply run faster <Sith_Lord> i wouldn't trust 64 bit OS yet :> <Sith_Lord> but, im notinto "trying" out new stuff. I like it to be established as stable before i go and spend money on it <Thanatos2> Sith_Lord wait till vista comes out <Thanatos2> you will never get it cause its not that great at all.... <Sith_Lord> im not impressed with the reading i've done on vista <Sith_Lord> XP is just fine <Thanatos2> :p <Sith_Lord> :> <Thanatos2> xp ****s too but its still better than vista <burn22> hey <Sith_Lord> haha <burn22> hello listen i got this problem here <Sith_Lord> i like XP! <Sith_Lord> XP is your friend :) <Thanatos2> xp = win me + 1 <Sith_Lord> lol <Thanatos2> oops <Thanatos2> that should be 0.1 <Phiber0pt> you = ignorant... <Sith_Lord> no way <burn22> hey can i interrupt you guys for a sec <burn22> i got this problem here <Sith_Lord> its actually windows 2000 + 1 <Sith_Lord> :> <CyberGeek> :-) <Phiber0pt> yea totally different kernel... then winme.. <Sith_Lord> wussup burn <burn22> i got this problem with one of my hard disks <burn22> OS won't boot <burn22> it's a dual OS setup <burn22> suggestions? <gargan> i know microsoft intentionally made it difficult to network with xp home, but can someone please just tell me the registry keys secpol changes relating to deny logon from the network? <Phiber0pt> maybe tell everyone what error it is getting... what OS's are on the dual boot.. etc <gargan> i have the 'user not granted requested logon type at target computer' problem <burn22> XP <burn22> error is hal.dll is missing or corrupt... or something like that <gargan> two xp home machines, one can access the other but not the other way around <gargan> everything i find tells me just to fire up secpol and make sure deny logon from network is off <Phiber0pt> you can network just fine with XP Home, they did not make it difficult.. it is actually dumbed down version of networking vs XP Pro... Gargan, enable your guest account on both computer in Control Panel>Users <gargan> yes, i've done that. net user guest /active:yes <gargan> doesnt change anything <Phiber0pt> is the account actually enabled in the control panel also? <gargan> yes <Phiber0pt> ok there is a registry key fix also <Phiber0pt> find that yet? <gargan> perhaps i shouldnt have started with an inflammatory comment, but i do find it easier to just type in a username and p***word <gargan> no, that's what i was hoping to find <Thanatos2> networking on xp home is a pain in the fooking *** <Sith_Lord> i have noticed that <gargan> i was looking for the registry keys that secpol changes <gargan> but everything on the web just tells me xp home doesnt have secpol. sorry. <Phiber0pt> http://www.mcse.ms/archive62-2004-11-1257020.html <Phiber0pt> ntrights +r SeNetworkLogonRight -u Guest <Phiber0pt> ntrights -r SeDenyNetworkLogonRight -u Guest <gargan> YES! <Phiber0pt> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA Look for <Phiber0pt> "RestrictAnonymous" and ensure it is set to 0. Reboot for changes to take <Phiber0pt> affect <gargan> that's what i was looking for! <Sith_Lord> burn22: if your hal is corrupt you may need to reinstall <burn22> y <Sith_Lord> hal = hardware abstraction layer <burn22> see... the thing is... the OS was completely fine prior to me installing another OS on my first hard disk <Sith_Lord> what OS was on there first? <burn22> oh yeah <burn22> listen <burn22> where is boot.ini located? <burn22> i can't find it <Sith_Lord> C:\ <burn22> it wasn't there <Sith_Lord> what OS was on there first? <burn22> and also.... there is no system32 folder.... <burn22> XP <Sith_Lord> what OS did you add to the disk <burn22> the exact same one <gargan> thank you very much Phiber0pt. can't test it now but i'm sure that's what i was looking for because i found that a long time ago and couldnt find it again <gargan> you rox0r <Sith_Lord> heh <Phiber0pt> np <Sith_Lord> why did you do that? <burn22> i have my reasons <burn22> it just had to be done <Sith_Lord> it probably moved the active partition to another partition <Phiber0pt> next time maybe use VMware? <Sith_Lord> therefore the system files got moved over there :> <burn22> naw naw listen... <burn22> while i was installing XP on my first hard disk <burn22> i had my secondary hard disk turned off <Sith_Lord> k <burn22> this is big headache <burn22> i didn't touch the OS now it won't run <burn22> welll like i said <Sith_Lord> what you mean turned off? you unplugged it? <burn22> i ****ed with the boot.ini file, but i can't find it <htg_> is there any pocketmobile channel? <burn22> no... i turned it off in BIOS <Sith_Lord> so it was working prior to you turning it off <Phiber0pt> c: <Phiber0pt> cd \ <Phiber0pt> attrib -h -r -s boot.ini <Phiber0pt> edit boot.ini <Phiber0pt> from recovery console <burn22> well i tried doin that but the boot.ini is nowhere to be found <Phiber0pt> maybe do these <Sith_Lord> then you installed OS on secondary drive. then OS on primary wdrive was ****ed up? <Phiber0pt> ?? fixboot <CyberGeek> fixboot == If you have ever accidentally installed Windows 2000 after you installed Windows XP and cannot boot into Windows XP anymore, simply start Windows XP setup, and let it copy the files. Then Boot back into you old Windows XP and delete the temp files that installation made. Fixboot from recovery console will also do the job <Phiber0pt> ?? fixmbr <CyberGeek> fixmbr == Master Boot Record messed up? Boot off your XP CD and enter the Recovery Console (Have Your Administrator P***word Ready) and enter fixmbr at the prompt sometimes its a good idea to enter fixboot after that. <burn22> i tried doin both those commands... still nothing <tlmdn> burn22 : backup and reinstall, all other efforts are wast of time. <tlmdn> waste* <burn22> sith... it was yeah, because i edited the boot.ini <burn22> but i can't find the boot.ini to change it back to what it was originally <Phiber0pt> maybe it got deleted? <Phiber0pt> make a new one.. <Thanatos2> do u guys know if lame can convert ogg to mp3 <Sith_Lord> if boot.ini got deleted, i bet ntldr and every thing else is gone too <Sith_Lord> reinstall the system, have a nice day. NEXT! <burn22> but i can't even find boot.ini on the OS i'm on now <Sith_Lord> then you better not shut it down <burn22> i have made sure i can see system files + hidden stuff <Sith_Lord> :) <CyberGeek> :-O <burn22> lol <Sith_Lord> heres a thought <Sith_Lord> goto system properties <Sith_Lord> goto advanced <Sith_Lord> then click settings under "startup and recovery" <burn22> yeah i did this the boot.ini looks completely fine <burn22> i can only edit it this way <|SlimJim|> check the D drive for thr boot.ini <Sith_Lord> in edit mode... click save as :) <Phiber0pt> you do realize it's a hidden system file... <burn22> should i make a copy in notepad then paste it to my other hard disk on C:... what else can i do <Sith_Lord> this will reveal the directory that it resides in :) <burn22> why can't search find it? <Sith_Lord> do what i said <Phiber0pt> you do realize it's a hidden system file... <Liss> [05:23pm] <burn22> i have made sure i can see system files + hidden stuff <Phiber0pt> hm <tlmdn> Anyone use netlimiter? <Liss> nope
