I proceed to boot my machine but it just takes forever at the Windows XP screen (with the loading bar) and then reboots (Starts back at POST) Anyone know why a new hard drive would do this to me? <3> is the jumper set to slave? <3> or cs on the last plug <18> ewww cs <18> z0rz-serv are both your drives SATA or is one SATA and one IDE? <3> he'd need a converter, and given the question, he'd be advanced enough to not have this problem if that was the case <3> ;) <18> not really, many mobos have both connectors <3> 6/half dozen <3> heh <3> how you been btw <18> good, busy <18> yo? <18> you <3> hotel picking up for season <3> busy <18> z0rz-serv ? <18> should we keep on guessing? <3> ......ping timeout <3> User Error. Replace User And Press Any Key... <15> z0rz-serv: I had a similar problem when trying to install an PATA drive on a machine that had 2 SATA drives (RAID 1 configuration). the SATA drives were referenced as default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1) in the boot.ini file, but when you added the PATA drive that drive was got ***igned that ARC path and the SATA drives got the next available one. Might be something to check. <15> - was <18> that is why i asked....but he doesnt seem to want help <19> hey has anyone ever heard of a computers modem managing to affect the telephone line to the stage of it being dead if it's plugged into the computer <19> because that's what happens here, two pc's and a telephone, if i unplug pc A it's fine and there's a dial tone, plug it in, and the line is dead. plug the same cable into my laptop and it's fine <19> so it's the computer, but i'm unsure as to how it's managing to completely make the line go dead <10> HipHob: very possible <10> it's happened b4 and you have to replace the modem <19> do you know technically how it does that? <10> yes <10> the modem is shorting out the phone line <19> hmm how does it manage that? <19> i dont really understand how phone lines work really to figure out how you'd short it out <18> by bridgine a circuit somewhere <10> phone lines run on about 6v of electricity <19> i see (kind of) <10> something in the modem is fried and causing a short <19> and it just breaks the citcuit <18> try both phone and wall plugged into modem <19> circuit* <10> it doesn't break the circuit <10> it shorts the circuit <18> it completes the wrong circuit <19> i see <19> ahh <10> like touching the twi wires together <10> two <19> ok that makes sense <19> cool - thanks :) just puzzled me <10> I have the strangest feeling that he's blonde for some reason <19> haha <10> heh <10> am I right? <18> ^-Lord-^ only applies to females <19> no i'm actually not <10> ah <10> ok <10> but there's a blonde gene in the family somewhere, right? <19> yes <10> I KNEW it!!! <19> lol <19> well, nothing wrong with blondes anyway really <10> dead modem man. your problem is easily fixed <10> I know <10> just playing <18> why are you still using a modem anyway? <10> unless your pci slot is fubar <10> you can move the modem to another slot and try it
