<0> well.. i guess it's really not that serious.. but it still ****s :)
<1> how many times has ms-office formats changed just to throw off the competition's conversation routines?
<0> hasn't been changed in a while
<1> what? msft wants to force all xp users to vista.. how nice of them...
<2> I think Since 2000
<0> plus.. office always gave you the option to save under an older format of hte program
<0> but the roaming profiles.. that is a really ****ty idea.. i wonder why there was a necessity to change it
<0> they soul dhave just allowed some sort of conversion to take place to be compatible between the differnet OS
<0> i don't think a new profile is necessary when the only major difference is the fact that "My Computer" is now "Computer" or "My Documents" is now "Documents"
<0> although i do like the fact that you get an OSX style home dir
<0> vista reminds me of OSX somewhat
<1> msft has always like stealing apple's GUI and other ideas
<1> *liked
<1> why should they stop now
<1> always worked for them in the past
<0> heh

<0> well.. kde did also
<0> and osx stole a lot from ms
<0> and they all stole it from xerox
<0> so who cares? :)
<3> All right, that's enough.
<0> if it works.. and it's something that people want.. then it is good
<3> I'm sick and ****ing tired of that dude's trolling.
<0> heh
<0> welll.. he was the only one saying anything :)
<3> He's been trolling here for the past couple of hours today, and several days before that.
<0> heh... it's always fun to come across the random MS hater
<3> Oooh goody.
<3> Now [TPasMan] is msg'ing me.
<4> Hello
<0> hah
<3> This ought to be good.
<0> about how bad ms is?
<0> :)
<0> or is he just flooding you or something?
<0> hi craq
<4> :)
<4> anyone remember me from yesterday?
<0> er
<3> Macer: Nah. He asked me why, I told him because he was being an ignorant troll, and he says, "So censorship is the answer?"
<3> He seems to be under the impression this is an egalitarian channel.
<3> It's not.
<5> ok question
<3> Heya digiwank.
<5> to those knowledgeble in IE and IIS security :)
<3> I'm sorry, that was hurtful.
<5> heya fdivness
<6> short answer, cause we can
<3> Heya Senor Digness.
<5> it wouldnt have been had you not said anything
<5> being i read it as "digiwork" heh
<3> digiwork: :-D
<3> I suppose I should eat some lunch before my meeting in ~40 minutes.
<5> dmanit
<5> my chilli is like
<3> Since if I don't I just know I'll get hungry about 10 minutes into it. :\
<5> tomato sauce and a couple of beans
<5> wtf is the meat?
<3> digiwork: What kind of chili?
<3> Something from a can?
<5> campbells chunky
<5> yeah
<4> i got a networking question.. I have 2 routers, 1 is a linksys and one is a mac airport.. the mac airport feeds the connection to the linksys through the wan port.. now what i need is for the computers on the linksys to be able to see the computers on the airport
<3> Yeah, I wouldn't trust Campbell's Chunky for chili.
<5> im not anymore
<3> I leave that to the folks at Hormel and Dennison.
<6> crap - reverse that. the airport needs to be plugged into the linksys
<6> craq - on a lan port, not the wan port
<3> Juppers: Or, alternatively, he should disable all the NAT and DHCP functionality on the Linksys.
<5> id rather have bubba's chili
<4> hmm..
<0> fdiv_bug: a bridge?
<4> so there's no way I can leave it in the WAN ?
<0> er.. i meant craq
<6> fdiv - linksys is picky about the wan interface. it still wouldn't p*** correctly I don't believe
<4> i kinda need the extra port
<0> it feeds it wireless?

<7> hey, I want to buy a laser printer for office use, anyway, with my new laser printer, i want it to be able to print on both pages automatically. Can anybody tell me how that goes into action?
<6> craq - go spend a few bucks on a hub or switch instead of trying to make a router act as one
<3> PacinoQS: It's called "duplex."
<4> ya.. good idea.. i'll p*** it by my boss :S
<0> craq: you don't have any ports on hte linksys?
<3> PacinoQS: Just look for a printer with duplex functionality and you should be golden.
<0> no lan ports?
<4> the linksys has 4 lans
<4> but they are used
<0> then you need a new switch ;)
<4> hmm..
<0> and the airport should hook up to the linksys
<0> not the other way around
<7> fdiv_bug, yea but how does duplex work?
<5> well
<7> like, does it print on both sides, or does the lawser automatiaclly switch thepaper and print then on the other side?
<0> usually an internet connection should hit a router/firewall first.. then distribute packets
<5> i think the lawser does most everything
<3> PacinoQS: Depends on the printer. Some have two toner drums or whatever and can print on both sides of the paper at once. Others print one side, spool the paper around so it ends up going back through on the other side, and print the second side then.
<7> aah ok
<7> and what about windows
<3> If you need speed and cost isn't an issue I'd find the former. If cost is an issue I'd find the latter.
<7> if i install driver, does windows automatically detect that it needs to be switched
<7> or cani only print with special programs?
<3> PacinoQS: If the printer driver supports duplex then there'll be an option to do duplex printing in the Print dialog.
<7> or are all default windows prints enabled if I "check" duplex print
<7> well, i am going to buy a new one so i havent chose anything yet
<5> fdiv, you dont use ie, do you?
<0> craq: my home network is set up where i have a linksys wireless router running openwrt which in turn connects to a switch that distributes the network .. switches are very inexpensive now.. you should just go out and get a linksys gbit switch for $50
<3> Provided an application doesn't use a custom Print dialog interface -- which I haven't seen in years and years -- then duplex will be an option in any Windows application.
<3> digiwork: I try really, really hard to avoid it. :\
<5> hrmm
<3> As a web designer, it pisses me off.
<5> i need to find an ie user
<3> And I refuse to encourage its use.
<3> digiwork: pale_blue uses IE, I think.
<5> PB
<3> skoal might, too.
<5> COME HERE
<5> PEEBEE
<6> i use ie. as a web developer I refuse to use or support firefox. it pisses me off
<5> yay!
<3> Juppers: Really!? You can tolerate IE's horribly broken box model?
<5> i just need someone to tell me something
<5> https://my.westdale.com/
<6> fdiv - like it alot better than the non compliance of firefox and tables
<5> im looking to see if when the auth box comes up if you have the option to "save p***word"
<3> Juppers: How do you mean? Got a URL outlining Firefox's non-compliance?
<6> yes. I have the option
<5> thanks!
<3> Juppers: Firefox in standards-compliant mode is pretty damn... well, standards-compliant.
<6> fdiv - not a url, just my own experience
<5> (see that was easy and i managed to start a browser war in the process)
<3> Juppers: I've never seen anything to cause me to question my faith in Firefox's support for rendering tables. I'd wager the site you saw was done in such a way as to only look right in IE using IE's broken CSS support.
<3> Site or sites.
<7> i am printing like 1500 pages black/white in a week. What is a good laser printer to save a lot of money on ink? Should be color laserjet (i only want to print small logos in color, not photos), fast, duplex, double feeder?
<6> fdiv - my site, no css for the tables.
<3> Juppers: And what's the problem? Is your code compliant?
<6> yes. completely. I had to rewrite it to work in firefox
<3> Hm. Interesting.
<3> I've got some layout precision **** that doesn't work right in Firefox on Linux, specifically, but I've traced that down to being a font issue -- Linux doesn't have the fonts I'm using.
<3> And I didn't feel like troubleshooting the issue much further since it's not a production site yet.
<3> Other than that I've never seen any issues where Firefox renders things "oddly." It's almost always IE that's wrong.
<3> Again, in my experience.
<3> Juppers: I'd be interested to see the code before and after the change, but I understand if that's not practically possible or feasible.
<4> Macer, im going to attempt it all later when no one is online.. I think the mac airport can act like a switch and just feed the wireless connections.. but that can take some setting up.
<4> thanks for your help though
<5> im pretty excited about that url
<6> poor craq.. reality will reach him eventually
<3> HIC-A-DOO-LA!
<8> My kork is taking up 100% CPU time.
<8> Hello?
<7> Whats the best laser printer if I want these things: Duplex mode (print on both sides of paper), 2 Paper feeds (for 2 different types of paper, both a4 but different layout), Color printer(only want it for my pricelist to print in collor the logos of my brands). Ill be using it for 95% only b&w. I am using a minimum of 1000 papers a week. What is a good choice for me, I want to save alot on ink and other costs.. Maybe one frmo HP?
