<0> because it has boobies
<1> boobies are good
<1> when they're on women
<0> s/when/unless//
<2> 1) it's AWESOME at RAD 2) the team integration for project collaberation is VERY solid
<2> especially if you get the Team Server portion as well as the client studios like software architect or software developer
<1> nod, I'm superficially aware of that.. some of my guys use it
<2> I run the architect version (comes with Visio For Enterprise Architects so you can use UML modeling to mock up your stuff then export as a code skeleton)
<1> I have to spend more time with the nuckleheads doing rollouts and other issues nowdays than I get to spend interacting with the developers
<2> hehe
<2> ehh if you've a good senior admin your rollouts should go QUITE smoothly
<2> especially if using both SMS and WSUS
<1> I'm not the admin, I'm..well..slowly becomming the PHB
<2> SMS you can do remote image installs off bootp clients, and with WSUS you can keep your entire enterprise up to date
<2> or use MOM if you *really* need it.
<2> PHB? Primary Head Basketcase?

<1> close
<1> pointy haired boss
<2> hehe
<1> think dilbert
<2> ahhhhh
<2> I'll leave that alone then :)
<2> muahahaha
<2> I run my own consulting business (usually unix but slowly adding windows to the mix)
<2> I *am* the PHB then :)
<1> the transition is painful, please have pity on at least a few of the idiots that make stupid decisions at the top, not all of us were bornj that way
<2> iNToIT: no, but they soon morph into it as if they had :/
<1> sadly it is too true
<2> I call it brainwashing with gene pool cleansing of the Smart Gene
<2> :)
<1> I've been able to stave off the worst of it by having to deal with them and continue to be horrified at their decisionmaking
<2> hehahahaha
<1> as long as they horrify my, I think I may still have a soul
<1> *my/me
<2> good! stay sane. you'll find the peons will look in horror WITH you rather than AT you :)
<1> no, they'll just laugh that I'm looking horrified at the same type of decisions they think I'm making when they're not looking
<2> actually any GOOD boss.. will be a peon himself with the occasional power to make things go POOF! Make it so!
<2> iNToIT: hahahah!
<3> sartan
<1> yeah, that's where I am now..but it's slipping..slipping..slipping..into the ether...
<2> yeah there will definitely be a few of those :)
<3> is it bad to plan ahead as to what supercar you want to buy, even before winning the lottery?
<3> lol
<0> dreams are good for everyone!
<1> planning, of course not
<3> hehe.
<1> if you said financing.. you'd have a problem
<4> sartan is a meth head
<2> well, I need to go grab coffee. if you find anything related to the discussion, please feel free to msg me and let me know
<1> will do, thanbks again
<0> man if i was a methhed i wouldbe cool.
<2> if nothing else I'll look through the SDKs and see if I can't find anything interesting
<0> i'm just a drunkish geek
<2> any time
<3> Rolls Royce Sedan
<3> i am not impressed. :(
<2> sartan: you around?
<4> he's freebasing some more pgp
<4> give him a few minutes
<2> hah
<2> nm, I'll google. was goin to use him as an easy answer machine for how to set up My Documents to be on the server rather than local to the workstation. I can do it via using a network share, but there's some way that 2k3 server can set that up for user logins by default
<4> use a network share
<2> that's what I was thinking, but there's a way to set all that up ina user's profile on the PDC
<4> yea but it ****s
<2> in what way so I know the problems
<4> *shrug*
<4> depends
<4> usually performance issues on logins
<2> just login or do the sessions drag as well?
<4> login
<4> depending on how much **** is in the documents folder
<2> hehe I'm at over a GB at the moment
<2> i was going to do a full and complete recovery backup of the workstation, but I don't have a working floppy drive so I can't make the ASR disk
<4> that's the point of using a share
<4> then you don't have to copy the files down
<2> well that's just for My Documents. I'm talking making the full ASR recovery backup for a complete workstation restore.
<4> confused

<2> I can move My Documents, I was just trying to figure out a way to do it via the user profile. in ADDITION I need to do a full backup including the ASR disk.
<2> my workstation drive is starting to click every couple days.
<4> oh
<4> lol just copy it
<2> single click like it's resetting itself
<2> right but doesn't the ASR maintain like my SID and serial and the like so I can do a complete restore with no issues?
<4> i dunno what an asr is
<2> Auto Systems Recovery disk
<4> ah
<2> it's the floppy that is tied directly to the full and complete backup of the system so if you ever have to say wipe a drive or put a new one in, with that disk and the full backup file, you can completely restore the machine back to the state it was before with everything working correctly and the installed version not requiring your serial or activation
<1> pgpkeys. whynot create a virtual floppy drive, create the ASR disk with it, image it, copy it over to another machine or buirn it to cd, then go ahead with your backup over the network?
<1> it's alot less work than it sounds
<2> i don't have anything that will mimic a floppy
<1> pgpkeys there are free solutions such as http://chitchat.at.infoseek.co.jp/vmware/vfd.html
<2> looking now
<1> if you choose to use it, don't use a prepared floppy image on the net. create your own image from a local machine that does have a floppy drive if you can, then restore the image to the floppy after creating the ASR disk so you can confirm it works for you
<1> here's a guide to the whole process http://www.freewarereview.info/2006-03/diskcopyexe_-_floppy_disk_imaging_and_virtualization_part_i.html
<1> you don't *have* to use the tools they specify
<1> theprocess is the same though
<2> need to reboot. back in a minute'
<5> ?
<6> hello, does anyone know how to redefine a keyboard layout to make it easier to play a game whose controls i can't change?
<7> rawr
<2> hey gimp
<8> hi
<7> stupid outlook
<7> omgs stop crashing
<2> ok, question here. If I'm running a domain here, do I *need* to have Distributed Link Tracking Client enabled on XP Pro Corp? It states that it's used to maintain links between NTFS files within a computer or across computers in a domain.
<2> what link though? as in Do I have a network share mounted as a drive such as Map Network drive or what? it depends on RPC but nothing depend on *it* according to the Dependencies tab for the service
<7> distributed what now
<2> look under Services. it's called Distributed Link Tracking Client
<2> read the description
<9> how can i view logged in rdp sessions on a w2k server?
<2> you're running XP Pro correct?
<10> sup pgpkeys
<7> no i run XP Noob edition
<2> sup merc
<2> Gimp-Work: prck ;)
<7> =)
<2> err prick even
<2> hehe
<7> ohhhh snap
<2> basicly I'm trying to shut down all non essential services
<7> meh **** act and ms sql
<7> using all my ram and ****
<7> bastards!
<2> I don't recognize the need for that, so I'm asking if it IS needed
<7> why would you turn **** off
<2> bcause they all take memory and they all wait for some sort of contact to be established. if it's not a needed service there's no need to leave it exposed.
<7> er, buy a router?
<2> err I have a router
<7> then how is it exposed
<2> that doesn't mean I shouldleave services running that aren't needed
<7> computer management is still loading
<2> dude, I know you're smarter than that. I know you know the security ramifications on ANY network leaving **** running that doesn't need to be
<2> knucklehead
<2> don't make me pummel you with Jet
<7> canadians are soft
<7> like mooses
<2> hahahahahaha
<2> EAye?
<7> man my computer is so ****ed right now
<7> you'd think 4gb of ram would be enough
<2> what are you doing to the poor thing?
<2> wow! hells yeah. I'm scrimpin along here on 1GB
<7> trying to save a crippled act database
<2> you do know you'll probably get better speed using 3GB rather than 4GB. you're right at the edge of addressable space on 32bit
<7> nah
<7> ram is still faster then paging
<2> and for reasons I don't know, but have seen it so believe it, XP runs better with under 4GB
<10> pgpkeys, if i win the megamillions, u still want ur 64k?
<2> true
<7> even if it's emulated
