<0> why?
<0> microsoft html is disgusting. If we were to ask people to use something other than word, it would at least be dreamweaver
<0> but what I don't see is any significant problem in just hitting "save as web page"
<0> yet clients will say "duh it just doesn't work"
<1> afternoon all
<2> heh
<3> tiglionab; have you LOOKED at the html it generates?
<0> I have looked at the html. I have also been ***ured by my boss that the clients don't care
<0> they just care about how the page displays
<3> view it with any browser other than MSIE and it looks like crap too
<0> firefox makes it look fine
<0> unless you have a nice example document for me
<3> I dunno, I saw some simple word stuff that had floating frames with tables in them that puked all over firefox
<0> floating frames..?
<0> link?
<3> where you insert a frame on the page, then put a table or graphic in it.

<4> i have the cross-over cable plugged in fine on both sides, but one computer says connected and the other says a network cable is unplugged
<4> what could be the problem?
<3> 'floating frame' is probably the wrong term. a table thats anchored to the page
<3> qwerty_; its not a good crossover cable, perhaps.
<0> you mean it like overhangs the frame boundary or something?
<5> qwerty_, are you sure you haven't got more than one network address?
<4> i know it is, i just used it earlier
<3> tiglionab; i mean like the the text thats supposed to wrap around the frame with the table came out all over the place and went right under the table
<5> Some computers can have more than one. One can be connected, say the ethernet port, while another, say wireless, cannot.
<3> if you're putting WORD documents on the web, use PDF
<4> Dov-work: how would i know if i do or dont?
<3> then they stand a decent chance of rendering properly.
<5> qwerty_, go to control panel>network connections. See how many you have there.
<4> i have 1
<5> And it is disconnected?
<4> on my other computer it says connect, than on this one it says network cable unplugged
<6> sartan, I can get way more than a couple of gigs in a day ... but I specifically need about 1.7g from a group on there ... and the bulk of it has already expired from my server. :\
<5> The other computer that is connected, does it only have 1 connection too?
<0> qwerty_: plug the cable in the other direction. If you get the opposite problem, it's not a crossover cable
<5> tiglionab, I doubt that would make a difference.
<4> tiglionab: what do you mean?
<0> Dov-work: stupid solutions are sometimes helpful =P
<4> Dov-work: yes it has one LAN or High-Speed connection
<5> Ok, how did you test your cable before? Are you sure it is a crossover cable?
<6> Actually what ****s is that I've got enough money in a paypal account to sign up for usenet monster for a couple of months ... but because I don't have a credit/debit card right now, I can't send any money with it.
<4> i bought it from best buy and it said it was a cross-over cable
<3> qwerty_; swap the two ends of the cable
<5> Ok, you said you tested it earlier, how did you do that?
<4> Dov-work: earlier today i was playing call of duty on it and it worked fine...
<3> on the same 2 computers?
<4> okay, hold on a sec
<4> Dov-work: i havnt tested it, i just know that it works because i was playing a game a few hours ago, this happened after i had a power surge...
<7> my pc is da bomb
<7> 7800 gtx
<7> ;p
<5> qwerty_, maybe that is saying something...
<7> ur powersurge fried ur *** cos ur too cheap to get a ups or atleast a surge supressor
<7> i lvoe my ups
<4> what is a ups
<7> i had a 3 year warrenty. and when the battery died after 2 1/2 years belkin sent me a brand new ups for free
<5> Uninterruptible Power Supply.
<4> oh
<4> so im going to swithc the cables around or not?
<5> Give it a shot.
<0> qwerty_: we just suggested that so you could test the cable. Don't waste time, just do it
<4> okay, hold on a sec
<8> do you guys know of any mirc alternatives?
<0> lexb: xchat, chatzilla, opera browser, a java applet like jwirc.com
<0> irssi is a good commandline one
<0> oh yeah, there's gaim and.. trillian
<4> it still says it is unplugged
<0> qwerty_: on the same computer?
<4> yes
<5> qwerty_, then either the cable is faulty or the network card is.
<4> i think my network card is
<0> or perhaps you need to set up some local networking settings
<0> unless you guys have already gone through that with him
<4> what setting are those
<5> Not for a connection.
<0> I just brute force it with the networking wizards
<0> but then, I don't use windows much =P

<4> so what settings should i set?
<0> dunno
<5> qwerty_, ignore that.
<0> fiddle
<5> When the connection is soloid, it will show that.
<4> already have
<5> *solid.
<7> softwarepatch.com is great place to get all the hotfixes
<0> all what hotfixes?
<4> i dont think a hot fix will un burn out my network adapeter
<7> ud be surprised what m$ code can do
<1> lexb, there are tons of irc clients available
<0> I don't trust patches that aren't from the original manufacturer or development team
<7> well i do
<0> or in anyway related
<7> whats the chances they are viruses
<3> whats the chances they aren't?
<7> higher
<7> actually
<7> these files link to
<0> what's the chances they screw up your hardware drivers and cause hard to track crashing and problems?
<3> whats the odds that a microsoft fix from windowsupdate is a virus ?
<7> download.microsoft.com
<7> so ownt
<9> lick my nuts, everyone!
<10> fag!
<4> i think im gunna go to best buy and get a network adapter
<11> i have a problem. my computer disconnected from the internet suddenly and now i cant connect. when i restart my computer a message from norton appears saying that it cant scan my emails. and i see that its disable. after few minutes.. it gets enable. also when i double click on my connection the connection window appears after a minute ..and when i click connect.. it doesnt connect me. i am using my friends computer now
<5> qwerty_, I would actually invest in a router/switch.
<7> i htink ur board is fried
<7> and will eventyuall die completely
<0> I've gotten hardware "fixes" for drivers on windows that broke hibernation, caused my machine to stop communicating with its hard drive giving me a BSOD and suddenly turning it off. Starting up again, windows recognized the problem was caused by these specific stupid hardware "fixes" they had recommended downloading
<12> http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/02/15/apple_macbook_pro_ship_dates/ but lets keep talking about how there weren't enough xbox 360s to meet demand, because its much more fun to bash Microsoft
<13> I just bought a easynews account.. not too shabby
<7> im making a slipstreeam disk
<5> someoneon, what are we talking here, dial up or pppoe??
<7> and if u dont update ur windows ull get hit by wmf viruses
<10> gaytobait, whoa
<11> both.. i have a dsl and a dial up
<11> none of them is working
<7> go to http://serials.ws to see if ur vulnerable
<5> Jet, I want one. I'm going to get it soon I think.
<4> Dov-work: can i use a router for lan
<0> Jet: who says not meeting demand is a bad thing?
<5> someoneon, are you using Norton Security/firewall? Or just for A/v?
<0> it's probably quite profitable
<5> qwerty_, yes you can.
<5> qwerty_, just make sure it has 4 ports or more.
<11> i have removed norton from my computer
<13> tig: you should take some economics.
<11> i have no antivirus on my pc now
<5> someoneon, what was it, av or firewall?
<11> and it still cant connect me
<5> someoneon, download hijackthis and scan your pc with Ms Antispyware,.
<11> ok
<11> u have a link for that? :(
<4> Dov-work: would i connect a crossover cable to the router, or would i just put a regular network cable to the router, and a cross over cable to the rest?
<14> www.google.com
<14> :P
<5> www.google.com use keywords 'hijackthis' and 'Ms antispyware'
<11> hijackthis & Ms antispyware are two different programs?
<5> qwerty_, you would only need straight cables. Most routers now support both so it won't really matter. I still prefer the conventional straight cables though.
<5> someoneon, yes.
<11> ok
<5> someoneon, MS Antispyware will scan your pc for infections, whereas hijackthis will provide an in depth look at certain locations where vulnerabilites lie and you can remove lines that shouldn't be there.
<5> They are both freeware.
<4> Dov-work: okay, how about a strait cable into the main port of the router, and a cross-over from one of the 4-ports to the computer
<7> wow nLite owns
<11> its only 207kb?is it?
<11> hijackthis its only 207kb?is it?
<0> someoneon: it's a tiny thing
<15> yes
<0> all it does is look for stuff that shouldn't be there
<15> it's not as tiny as mah cock
