WIsh I had started paying to a certain usenet group sooner. Something I want was posted a few days ago ... but my ISP's server only has like 2 day retension on binaries. :\ <11> did you guys see the news about Vista? If you buy a PC with an OEM copy of Vista and you have to replace the mobo, you have to buy a new license. The OEM is now tie dto the Mobo. <12> if the OEM replaces the board, the license is still good <12> if you replace the board with another one from elsewhere it's not. <12> That's no different than now <10> Tho technically OEM can be tied to any piece of hardware. <10> Mobo, hard drive ... etc etc <13> Doesn't really matter. <11> FK|Work`: That's just bogus though, no matter who replaces the board, if the board hoses and you replace with exact or similar one, what's it matter? <13> All of us will pirate it anyway. <12> samalex: if you replace the motherboard in a Dell with a motherboard from somewhere other than Dell, it is no longer a Dell PC <10> samalex, are you just not paying attention? That's the way OEM licensing works *right* now. <12> it doesn't matter if it's the same board <11> HawkBlah: I didn't know that. <12> and the PURCHASE of an OEM license can be tied to a motherboard, hard drive, or another part, however, the USE of the software is tied to a complete machine. <14> I don't think Dell makes any computers with standard AT/ATX/MATX formats <14> in other words, you couldn't screw down the motherboard :) <10> Actually, I think the 4600 ch***is is ATX <10> I've got one (a ch***is) in the other room, but I'm too lazy to go look. <15> heh <15> i shouldn't be allowed to have a spray bottle full of paint stripper <15> i had way too much fun <0> er <0> hmmm.. <15> i was all like, i wonder how far away i can get and still hit the car <0> i'm wondering what the fastest way I can use.. <0> I need to rename files based on modification date in windows <0> guess it's vbs <15> c#.net <0> too overcompliated. <0> **** it. <0> i can do this <0> nm. that's not too hard <16> would anyone in here know how to put all the xp hotfixes on a cd so I don't have to keep downloading them on each new machine I install xp on? <0> faster to actually do this by hand rather than write some **** <16> really? <0> uh <0> not to that <0> Windows catalog can do that nachos
<0> man. <15> werd <0> not even that <15> like your mom <0> you can slipstream servicepacks into cds <16> oh i never knew what the catelog did <16> thanks guys google gave me a lot of info on that <10> !info nlite <10> Oh well, he left. <0> ooookokay.. <15> i should make a new xp cd <16> ok slipstream only integrates a service pack into the windows setup <0> not really. <0> you can put hotfixes on there <16> hmm <0> you left before we could show you a software program that can help <0> !info nlite <0> c/o hawk <10> You can put drivers, hotfixes, service packs, answer files. Etc etc <7> where are the coldfixes? <16> ah cool <0> i very nearly rm -r *'d / <17> Doh. <10> Meh, I really wish I could afford a "real" usenet account right now. <0> yeah? <0> my isp account ****s <0> been toying with the idea of getting an easynews or similar account <18> sart: what kind of client do you use for it? <18> whats teh best? <0> I use newsbin under windows <0> but i don't do much downloading. I'm not sure what is good <18> yeah.. <0> shaw has less than one day retention on the binary servers <7> AYE NUS <16> how do i get the hotfixes already installed onto my system into nlite? <7> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_pig <7> mMMmm dinner time <10> You will have to goto MS and download the individual installers. <10> Use the KB number of the installed hotfix. <10> I use Newsbin Pro 5 here. <10> sartan, sign up for an account and let me borrow it for about 1.5gigs. :) <0> that's what you get in a day huh <16> ok <0> 2 gigs <16> problem is, my add/remove doesnt show the installed hotfixes <0> guh? <0> no <0> they're put in the OS as normal <0> installed before it starts the 'installed programs' registry sort of thing. kind of lower level <16> the only thing it shows me is windows installer 3.1 KB893803 <16> i know some computers show all the others but mine doesnt <16> i wonder if its in my registry <16> lol <16> i have something in here <16> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP3\ <16> SP3?? <16> it has all the updates <16> theres about 30 of them pmfg <16> omfg* <16> i downloaded this unofficial SP3 thing just now.. it has most of these updates great <16> theres on important update that i need. it fixes a wmf virus that you can get just by going to a website <0> you installed windows 3.1? !? <0> ( kidding ) <19> hi <16> im not laughin lol <0> yes you are! you just said so. LOL1? <16> that brings back memories <16> windows 3.1 when i got a 28.8 i thought i was top speed <19> My boss wants me to find some program that makes it easy for people to fix html that ms word exports. However, she doesn't care about the html code-- just how it looks. I don't really see any problems with how Word exports html (though I don't use it myself). What sort of problems are there? <16> use front page <19> why?
