<FKnight`> that wasn't a good idea
<Jet> eventualy it worked
<Segmental> sorry
<Segmental> well anyway
<Segmental> did u see?
<Jet> I've had mcafee's antivirus definition update downloads stall too
<Jet> so I do them again and they work
<Segmental> i pasted deryl the paste
<Jet> sometimes the server is just overloaded
<Jet> or ****ed up
<Jet> or they have traffic problems
<FKnight`> either way, I can download it
<FKnight`> need it ?
<Segmental> yes, that and network server monitor
<Segmental> which is a trial too
<Segmental> same site
<FKnight`> what's the url for that
<deryl> i was thinking it might be high latency as well between him and the site, but his highest is 101ms so it's not that
<Segmental> ftp://ftp.gfi.com/networkservermonitor7.exe
<HM2K> does winxp come with a method to convert fat32 partitions to ntfs?
<deryl> yes
<Segmental> yep
<FKnight`> http://www.fkradio.net/misc_apps/languardnss7.exe
<FKnight`> http://www.fkradio.net/misc_apps/networkservermonitor7.exe
<HM2K> where's it located?
<deryl> convertfs iirc is the bin name
<deryl> it's called convert
<deryl> just checked
<deryl> run 'cmd' then do 'convert /?' to get the params
<HM2K> or help convert :p
<HM2K> i don't supose you can run it on an active partition?
<deryl> i'd also suggest you look it up in XP's help. you *might* need to do some pre-work with fsutil depending on your situation
<FKnight`> it will schedule the conversion for the next reboot
<deryl> you can if it's not C:\
<deryl> ahh
<deryl> make sure you run a defrag afterwards
<Pa{MaN> anyone know how to fix a hard drive that says it's missing
<FKnight`> put it back
<Pa{MaN> serious
<deryl> preferably with diskeeper if you have it since it can operate directly on the MFT as well (sometimes conversions will fill up your MFT)
<Pa{MaN> huh
<deryl> Pa{MaN check the drive using a boot util from your maker, also make sure that your controller is good.
<Pa{MaN> how i do that
<Pa{MaN> it's western digital wd2000bb
<Pa{MaN> 200gb
<deryl> usually it's the drive itself, but you never know if an onboard is going bad. will need some sort of test utility for that though like Microscope or something
<Pa{MaN> i tried a diagnostic tool and it locked my pc up
<deryl> how do you think? go to western digital's site and download their bootable diagnostics disk
<deryl> make the floppy, boot to it, and check the drive
<FKnight`> Segmental: you download those files okay?
<Pa{MaN> it shows up in disk management as missing & offline but i can't put it back online, what i did was uninstalled sp2
<Pa{MaN> cause it's total ****
<deryl> you don't test controllers while you're booted up. an accurate test of it's condition must be done with the system not booted to the OS since the OS's driver could be in thwe way
<Pa{MaN> so i need a bootable floppy disk
<deryl> SP2 is only total **** if your system is already ****ed up or if you have a specific case where it conflicts with a peice of software (usually custom items) or the install itself somehow was corrupted
<deryl> which can be fixed by rerunning the SP installer and it will check the install of itself
<deryl> it'll verify the files it wrote to the WPF directory as well
<Pa{MaN> so what should i do
<Pa{MaN> reinstall sp2
<Pa{MaN> or what
<deryl> do what i told you to do
<deryl> see what the tests say, eliminate the hardware as the issue right off
<Pa{MaN> i can't loose the data on the drive to omuch stuff on it
<deryl> that's neither here nor there
<deryl> nothing i've said is destructive
<Pa{MaN> i installed western digital's data lifeguard software but it gives me an error and ****in exits
<Pa{MaN> so i can't even use it
<deryl> sounds like it's the drive then if it's having trouble seeing the disk since they use direct access
<deryl> there's soft access where you use the OS driver to access the drive's ROM, or hard access where you directly query the drive
<Pa{MaN> hard drive is perfectly fine man
<Pa{MaN> only thing wrong is i uninstalled sp2
<Pa{MaN> and it ****ed it to where it says it's missing
<Pa{MaN> when there is nothing wrong with it
<deryl> the manufacturer's own software says it's not
<deryl> you don't want to hear me so.. do what i told you. i'm through.
<Segmental> FKnight` im here
<Segmental> lemme know when ur ready to send
<Segmental> i will enable dcc
<Segmental> [13:18] <FKnight`> http://www.fkradio.net/misc_apps/languardnss7.exe
<Segmental> [13:18] <FKnight`> http://www.fkradio.net/misc_apps/networkservermonitor7.exe
<Segmental> o i see
<Segmental> thx again
<Segmental> FKnight`
<Segmental> it stopped on ur server too
<Segmental> at 85
<Segmental> %
<deryl> ow i'm more inclined to believe it's your end
<deryl> s/ow/now/
<Segmental> dude
<Segmental> i tried this on a clean pc, new os, no router
<Segmental> and same **** happened
<Segmental> yet the modem is fine my isp said
<Segmental> speakeasu
<Segmental> -u +y
<deryl> did you power cycle the modem?
<deryl> or do the cold reboot the way i suggested in msgs?
<Segmental> yes
<deryl> yes to which?
<HM2K> "This conversion will also remove your previous operating system." -- does this sound safe?
<[Kal]> !list
<deryl> power cycling is just shutting off the modem for a second or two and then flipping it back on. cold rebooting it involves removing the power adapter, letting it sit for a full 5 minutes so any retained charge is dissipated, reconnecting the power to it and then restarting
<deryl> in SOME instances (depending on how the maker made the modem) you might also need to disconnect all CAT5 cables as it can cause the built up charge to never dissipate (which helps it maintain an instant ready status)
<deryl> hehe, i've never tried to convert C:\, i've always done it on secondary drives and never seen that message, so I can't tell you
<deryl> look online for more docs on it at technet or msdn
<cHiKNPad> ?
<deryl> !
<Segmental> i just ****ing did another cold modem reboot
<Segmental> if it still works then try zipping thosr files FKnight`
<Segmental> i wonder if i have issues with .exe downloads

<amonfils> too much vodka.
