<0> Appliction: [blank] Start: 80 End: 80 Protocol: Both (TCP & UDP) IP Address: 192.168.1.XXX
<1> TedSki-: The machine thatI am running prtg has the ip address of 192.168.1.103
<0> xxx is the machine ip addres
<2> scalabang, ok, that should work
<2> scalabang, and check enable
<0> I hae that checked
<0> got it thanks
<0> I appreciate the help
<3> http://johndx.com/gallerizer.php?url=http://anonymouse.org/cgi-bin/anon-www.cgi/http://hosted2.freexdvd.com/content/[1-20]-autumn_haze_vs_son_of_dong-set4-lg.jpg
<1> TedSki-: how do i ensure SNMP is running on my local machine on which i am running prtg
<1> uuuughhhh my internet connection has never beeeen so slow.
<4> goddamn these people that blame the soldiers for the war in iraq piss me off. like we have the choice to fight in this war or that war. we go where we're told. idiot civies.
<4> sorry, not the place for it. just mad.
<1> i can't understand how i can use PRTG to monitor the bandwith of my house. I can't get this tool to doanything. It keeps giving me errors
<4> pepp^ well for the snmp, make sure you have the services running
<1> it says, connection failed, sorry no MIB2 compatible ports were find on this device.

<4> the snmp and snmp_trap
<1> deryl: snmp and snmp_trap on my local machine? rite? the routers are already running these services?
<4> i think they're part of the network monitoring service addon (under windows components in the windows core section of add remove programs)
<4> yeah on whatever you're trying to monitor.
<4> the routers having it enabled or not depends on how your network engineer(s) configured the routers
<1> deryl: this is a simple home network. there is no network engineer. i am the user. and its my router.
<1> I started SNMP and SNMP trap on my machine.
<4> ok, then make sure you have snmp installed and running (if it's unix you need snmpd running, on windows you need the network minitoring addon installed and snmp/snmp_trap services running)
<1> from my machine I am trying to monitor the router
<4> then make sure you have snmp enabled on the router as well
<1> deryl: I am looking at the router optinos in 192.168.1.1 over the web and i dont see such options.
<4> i don't know what type of home router it is or if you're using something like a cisco 26xx or whatever. but that needs IT'S snmp service enabled
<4> well then it might not support snmp
<1> deryl: its a linksys, router, from cisco.
<5> man i was so close to getting osx on my dell d600
<4> doesn't mean anything
<1> WRT54GSV4 thats the model no.
<4> some models have it, some don't. the better quality it is the more likely it is to have that
<1> and it is pretty advanced router, i'd imagine a 70 bucks router to support snmp
<4> you need to research that at cisco.com and find out if it has it
<4> you'd imagine wrong.
<4> that's still a low end m*** market router
<4> now you paid 300 or more then i'd be like yeah that's weird
<1> the thing is that my connection is sooooo slow that i can't open router settings for like 5 minutes
<4> don't know what to tell ya
<1> where would i be able to enable snmp in settingS? under adminstration?
<4> does it do wireless too? is the wireless enabled? do you have any active ssid keys mapped to MAC addresses?
<1> deryl:yes. it does wireless too
<1> and its got 4 ports also.
<4> pepp^ hell I don't know. it depends on your router. go look up the friggin manual for it on cisco.com
<4> well if it does wireless, and it's active someone could be hijacking your connection
<4> you need to check that, and enable whatever security options it gives you in your manual.
<4> rotate the shared key every couple weeks as well
<6> which file controls which ports are active on the machine?
<4> don't broadcast the ssid either
<1> deryl: my internet connection is very slow. nothing is loading online, thats why i wanna monitor my router to begin with, why is it so slow, possibly that my roomie is using bitcommet and hogged the ENTIRE BANDWIDTH.
<4> that's QUITE possible
<7> is it better to have an auction for the xbox360 up for a short or long time?
<1> deryl: i've WPA encryption.I don't think people are hacking that easily.
<1> stainer71: I'd go for along time.
<6> pepp^: you could always tell him to restrict his upload, on any of those torrent applications.
<4> Phr0z3n it's not a file which controls that. it's individual service activations, and if you're using Routing and Remote Access rather than Windows Firewall, you have to specificly punch holes through the fw for ports if you have the option for Basic Firewall enabled
<6> deryl; we use a router with built in firewall, just was taking a look at netstat, (netstat -a) and saw a nice set of ports; that windows can open/close etc.
<4> pepp^ dude, it's wireless unless you specificly use MAC ACLs **along** with wpa1 or wpa2 they can crack it
<4> yeah you're looking for LISTEN
<4> those are the ports the system has active daemons on
<6> i wanted to know if i could shut those down; thru a configuration file.
<1> deryl: ok. i doubt anyone has hijacked any connection. my roomie's jack is CONSTANTLY BLINKING.
<8> anybody know where to get some messenger live invites ^^ ?
<1> i can't open google.com
<4> pepp^ then he's stealing all your bandwidth
<4> disconnect his port
<9> lol
<1> i'd like to prove to him before i do that.
<4> then tell him either he limits the downloads to exactly half the total down speed or he stays disconnected
<1> so i need to monitor the bandwidth.
<10> google is hacked
<6> pepp^: which router?
<4> uhh you only have to look at the constant traffic light to see and prove that
<1> Phr0z3n: linksys WRT54GSV4
<4> see? this is your port. see how it's constantly blinking signifying constant traffic? lock down the downloads to half our total bandwidth on the dsl pipe or I'm disconnecting your port

<6> does it have a "router status" link on the router?
<6> within the webadmin is what i mean.
<1> Phr0z3n: yes it does. but its nto opening cuz my onnnection is TERRIBLY WEAK.
<9> hummana doing
<6> pepp^ rip is cord out and see if you get improved speed
<1> he is gonna get mad
<4> who pays for the internet?
<6> if your speed goes up, walk over there slap him upside the head, and tel him to stop eating bandwidth
<6> i had to do that with my room mate
<6> he was eating bw downloading TVrips when our tv blew; i noticed everything around me slowing down to a halt, i ripped his cord out
<4> even if you BOTH pay for the internet service you have the grounds to tell him to limit it to half the total bandwidth
<4> you PAY for the ****
<6> and told him liimit your bw or im gonna keep ripping it out.
<1> Phr0z3n: his port light is not blinking. its constantly green. its only my port thats blinking. but i can't even open my router webadmin page
<6> FT, rip it out, an tell him to fix his **** before he continues to use the inet
<1> deryl: its true. I am gonna ask him only if i can prove that he is hogginit up. he will say hes not.
<6> pepp^ show him the lights... end of story!
<1> ok.
<4> then when he goes out, disconnect his cat5 from the port, and then connect
<4> if everything speeds up, then do it again when he's there
<1> Constantly green means using greater bandwidth than constant blinking.
<4> that's physical undeniable proof
<6> deryl: can't he limit bw consumion via the router?
<4> clear your cache in the browser
<1> How can I restricct BT ports on the router.
<4> Phr0z3n completely depends on if his router allows for it
<6> pepp^ forward em to no where ;)
<6> i do that
<4> forward them to 127.0.0.1
<6> i forward WoW ports to no where
<1> LOL
<6> they goto 192.192.192.192
<1> Phr0z3n: thats evil.
<1> I play WOW
<6> If your going to misstreat the internet, gtfo!
<6> i play wow & ffxi
<1> i play guidl wars also
<6> if i see myself lagging in any part of the game i start to look at who the hell is eating bw
<4> also your router should have a firewall capability. cruise the net, get the list of BT ports and put in DENY rules for those port ranges
<1> deryl: nice, my room mate is stupid. he only plays game. he wont know why he can't use BT.
<1> that'll be funny
<6> deryl what he needs to do is change his BT program to cap upload, depending on how smart the guy is.
<4> my sDSL is a business cl*** DSL. I run my business of it as well as home use. but the majority is business
<6> pepp if thats the case; then just fix his BT for him
<4> Phr0z3n true but if he's going to refuse, DENY the port ranges
<1> Phr0z3n: the guy is idiot. he probably set it to max everything. thinks he is the only one who uses internet to do anything.
<4> track it through the logs on the router
<6> deryl if he wants to let him play on the inet, then hell who cares :)
<6> just cut him down
<6> but if he wants to go evil, kill the rng
<6> range*
<1> ok i am unripping his cord right now!!!
<6> lol
<6> did your speed pick up yet lol
<4> Phr0z3n playing on the internet is not the same as DENY'ing bittorrent ranges
<4> you can still play games
<6> deryl very true :)
<6> you make me want to do evil things while my room mates are not home now :)
<4> hehe
<6> to bad you can't limit it from the NIC cards
<4> that's one reason I love freebsd and pf.
<6> id cut them down to 5kb/s upstream 200kb/s downstream and tell em "Eat it"
<4> you can do so much granularly to bandwidth it's not even funny :)
<4> alq rocks hehe
<6> routers, all routers should have that type of power... for the windows forced users.
<4> err altq
<11> anyone somewhat of a burning/video guru? :)
<11> just have a small q
<6> im working on building a nix box here we've got almost enough parts to put one together.. just missing a stick of mem.
<4> cool
<4> fbsd over linux
<1> yeah my speed picked up.
<12> put a linux router on there with WonderShaper. that will let you adjust traffic patterns by IP and port
