<0> the computer i have presently i built it myself <1> yeah? <1> what do you have <2> Okay. I'm back. Tada! <0> it has a p4 2.4ghz, 1GB PC3200, 450 watt powersupply, intel 865perl motherboard, POwercolor radeon 9800 with 256MB (128 bit memory) <0> 120 GB IDE hard disk <0> dvd- writer <1> how is that radeon <0> what you mean? <3> sounds about like my box, only its a 2.53Ghz p4, and has a geforce fx5600 <2> That reminds me, I need a new 120gb for the raid 5 array, and we're effectively in a new billing period -- I'll wait a week to let the dust settle. <0> is mys system old or what <1> I have an amd fx 55, SLI 6200 Ultras? I forget the number, 2 10k Wd raptors SATA 74.x GB 2 GB of DDR pc something and a 600w ps <1> with dvd burner <0> the p4 is the 533MHZ FSB version <3> Alexi5; not that old, still perfectly usable for anyone other than a bleeding edge gamer
<2> Alexi5: That's a question which only you can answer. <0> ok <3> gamers regularlly spend $3000+ on systems which are obsolete in months <4> that will be me! <3> stupid **** like 2 x 7800GTX SLi video cards <0> i might as well buy a xbox 360 <1> yeah <1> I never use the SLi <1> its dumb <1> came with halflife 2 <1> and far cry <0> and use the pc for work <1> never play any games <1> I have an xbox 360 still sitting in the box <1> I have had it since January <1> thinking about taking it back <1> get my money back <2> Yes, we've all got our skeletons in our closets. <3> hell, there's still more better games for PS2 unless you're strictly into HDTV combat shooters <0> can't xbox 360 be used on a normal television <3> it can. <3> at normal TV resolution <1> http://www.attackofthe****.com/archives/Talk-about-bad-Luck.html < damn <1> now thats bad luck <1> poor guy <1> that has to be fake <3> I dunno, but I hope they toss murder 1 charges on the guy who ran the light <1> yeah deffinitely <1> that dudes world is wrecked <1> living peacefully one moment and at peace the next <5> that's not murder 1 <5> Man 1 <1> if you know what I am saying <5> Man One, 15 to 25 <3> which means < 5 with time off for good behavior <5> Schiff would plead the ****er down to a noise ordinance violation <1> owie <2> Damn. These nicotine patches don't stick very well. I must be a hairy german. <5> you're supposed to clean/shave the area where you're applying the patch <3> the guy who comes out from the right does appear to be moving damn fast too for a boulevard. <3> no idea what the speed limit is there, natch <0> so i guess AGP is dead now <5> right now I'm seeing how long this patch lasts <5> I've had it on > 24 hrs <2> FKnight`: Well, Tomorrow I'll try your technique. <0> and my system has reached its limit <5> I need to change this one soon, but I feel okay <5> either I'm bad*** or there's more than 24 hours worth of nicotene in these <5> but I was only 1/2 pack day so <3> a 865 would support a 800Mhz FSB P4, up to like 3Ghz (but NOT any of the newer lga775 chips) <3> that would get you a 20-40% cpu performance boost possibly <5> the hardest part is waiting for a server to finish something at work .. like an install or a download or server reboot or some **** -- cause that's my smoking time. <1> lol <3> and there are undoutably faster AGP cards than a 9800Xwazzit <6> FKnight`, installs are the worst times for me. That and waiting for a diag to complete at a user's desk <5> yeah <5> cause that's smoke break time :D
<6> heh ditto <0> peerce:ok <6> I just started staring at things to help me quit <7> Anyone here done any experimenting with undervolting their processor to use a lower Vcore? <6> walls, ceilings, pictures <0> peerce:what do you think of the dell xps 600 based on its specs <0> http://www1.la.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/dimen_xps600?c=ag&l=en&s=dhs&~section=specs#tabtop <5> I'll admit though that it's easier for me to handle the physical habit because I still smoke pot. <8> rawr <5> if I feel an urge, I just take a bong hit <8> lol <8> one way to do it i guess <8> tokin up at work <8> :P <3> Alexi5; never seen one. i dislike the lame*** XPS trim on those, but thats purely subjective. <2> b33b: It wouldn't surprise me if I had. I've got a K6-2 system which has the voltage parameters are set for overclocking which iirc, required lowering the core. <8> nah Tomomi, other way <8> you're thinking lowering the multiplier :P <7> Tomomi - usually overclockers increase their VCore to get the upper performance... I'm lowering to keep my system's temp down <5> AMD ruled until the K6-2. (K6 was ok). K6-2 is when they jumped the shark. They jumped BACK, however, with the Athlons. <6> FKnight`, yeah I have nothing to re***ure that oral fixation.. har har to the impeding **** jokes :P <8> b33b, it's kinda a hit and miss thing <5> sublemon hahahh <8> drop the cpu to whatever speed is acceptable to you <8> then lower the voltage until windows crashes <5> what does lowering the voltage get you, JOOC <8> lower heat <5> oh tre <7> Gimp - just wondering if there is any downside... I've got it stable with prime95 x 2 running, and I want to keep temps down to make the CPU last longer. <8> i'm really excited about the low power amd chips that are coming next year <7> I'm reducing VCore by .15 and still able to overclock by .45 GHz <8> b33b, is this a normal case? <8> oh, um <8> that kind of chip and cooler is this <7> Gimp - sonata II with a zalman fan. <5> yeah I reall like AMD <2> b33b: Overclocking results in higher temperatures, which often can only be obtained by lowering the vcore. You get nothing for free -- it's a balance getting it to run stable, with heat and voltage being the playtoys. <8> ohhh sonata <7> opteron 165 chip <8> Tomomi you need more voltage normally <8> to make the gates drive at the fast speed <5> do any of the AMDs have the virtualization instruction set **** <2> Indeed. <8> not really fk <5> so I can run Windows under XEN <8> neither has full implementation <9> Hmmm. I seem to have a dead NIC in my server. :\ <7> I wish I could find reasonable temps for this opteron though. I'm not sure what good cpu/mobo temps are for dual-core opterons <8> you have one of the big zalmans? <8> i have an x2 4400 here b33b <8> @ 3.3ghz <8> 47c full load <7> Gimp - no, just the 7000... I was afraid to go with too heavy of a heatsink. I'm pretty new to custom/overclocked setups so I played it safe. <8> ah <2> b33b: Go back to the specs. http://users.erols.com/chare/main.htm <8> yeah mine is rockin the 7700 cu <5> yeah pretty soon VMWare and Microsoft are pretty much only gonna be able to compete (as far as virtualization goes) in the management of virtual machines area. Virtualization itself is gonna be commodity dime a dozen **** <8> and two 120 case fans <8> what temps are you seeing <7> Surprised it only runs at 47 degrees full load. With mine undervolted, a zalman 7000 and a 120mm rear fan I get up to 45. If I don't undervolt I can get up to 51. <7> And that's only overclocked .45 GHz <8> they aren't what i would call quiet fans <8> :P <7> I run the zalman 7000 at 1800 RPM. I find I only gain a degree of temp but the noise drops significantly. <7> I use speedfan - I can crank the fan speed back up when I think I might need extra cooling. <8> i can't hear it at the top speed :P <8> it's also not in this room, so it's not really an issue <7> Good point. I am 3 feet away from mine. <2> I believe in Seasonic Power supplies. Lot of high tect **** (re: PSUs) in those psus, and talk about quiet. Words I don't understand. Wah. Help me I'm drowning. <8> i think these fans do >80 cfm <7> Anyways, I am very happy with setup. I'm new to overclocking and it was a breeze with this setup. <8> yeah <7> The RAM was the tricky part. Ended up going 3-3-3 to get things bullet-proof <8> what ram did you end up with
