<1> ever have the urge to remove the top of your head and poke at your own brain with a wooden spoon? yeah, me neither.
<2> umm, no
<6> Well, I know you're all Windows users and windows admins and hang out on #Windows, but I know none of you will claim to have ever used it, specifically because I'm asking a question about it, but can someone help me figure out why my RequiredFieldValidators on my ASP.NET page, which are bound to controls to validate, are letting the page get submitted without input?
<7> what's ASP.NET
<1> what actually does the validation?
<8> I do.
<8> With my i-ron fist.
<9> Hi people.
<6> essentially, you place a requiredfieldvalidator control on the page which has, as it's text, the error message (e.g. "First name required"), and you bind it to say the textbox where the first name is to be typed. You then enable it, set your submit button to "causesvalidation" equals true.
<8> </kmfdm>
<6> that's basically it
<7> Hi.
<1> because if it's generating javascript to do the dirty work, i've seen instances (and i have one i keep meaning to futz with) where the onsubmit even isn't triggered on a form.
<6> it was working great the other day til I disabled the validators for debugging purposes
<6> I just enabled them all
<8> FKnight`: Good job.
<6> and they're not working
<6> That's fine though, don't worry about it --- it's "FK" asking the question, so it's obviously something he's doing wrong.
<6> thanks to pizza_biz though for answering with a possibility
<8> FKnight`: Dude, totally. I wish you'd stop ****ing up our mail gateways, too.
<8> They keep having load issues.
<8> All I can figure is you're doing it somehow.
<2> lol
<6> ****ing crazy the only ****ing help I've ever gotten on this channel is from fdiv_bug about Linux
<8> :-D
<7> I got some help on Linux once here too.
<8> FKnight`: REBOOT!
<6> cause everything is "FK Rayz" or "FK must be doing something wrong"
<2> lol
<9> lol
<8> Shut it, sklol.
<9> No plolblem.
<1> heh. pittsburgh address.
<8> pizza_biz: **** Pennsyltucky.
<1> :-(
<1> "it's not kentucky but at least our cousins are hot enough to be worth ****ing." </wrong>
<3> awww, June Pointer, youngest of the Pointer Sisters, died. :( 3 choruses of "Yes We Can Can", k?
<1> no we can't can't.
<6> it should also be noted that every single problem I've had this week concerning this particular project has a ton of solutions on google.
<6> all of which are 404
<6> Apparently, I'm the Supreme Court Justice of Murphey's Law
<8> Hi.
<7> I like the 3D visualizations in Bits on Wheels, who's with me?
<10> Coming soon will be a new addition to our collection of fully-automatic submachines. We will soon have an Israeli UZI submachne gun ready to rent and will be loads of fun. Rental fee is $30, plus ammo.
<10> SWEET
<6> digiwork: any idea why a RequiredFieldValidator works great on the development machine but not on the web server where ASP.NET is installed ?
<6> ah got it
<6> had to run aspnet_regiis -c
<6> I love how that's documented
<9> You know what FK.
<9> I just figured out why you're so pissy about these problems you have.
<9> You're too smart for your own good. You find undocumented **** or bugs
<9> And some ***hole says "did you look at the doc?"
<6> well

<9> and you blow up.
<6> I apparently find every ****ing bug
<9> Which makes sense.
<6> you know how like people are normally supposed to run into say 3 or 4 issues with a particular thing
<6> well
<9> It's not all bugs, it's just that you use **** that's poorly documented or not at all.
<6> if you do a KB lookup on a particular topic
<6> and you see a list of 30 KB articles
<6> every single one of them
<6> I've had
<6> pull out the release notes to a service pack? yeah. Everything is relevant.
<1> k, i just googled that bits on wheels thing. i'm now entirely convinced you mac people are hording all the good drugs.
<6> skoal: the ****ed up part is .. apparently everyone else on Windows runs setup, makes some file shares, and then leaves the server forever. so it's no wonder everyone thinks I'm an idiot who doesn't know how to run a ****ing network because I'm apparently the only one that goes beyond IT 101 for an office of 2 secretaries
<7> it's true
<6> so I run into every ****ing bug
<11> Oh look, its Kynes
<11> Yum.
<11> :-p
<7> yes, I am back in action
<11> Careful how you say that around me. :-p
<7> no thanks
<11> You know I'm just messing around.
<8> In a strictly platonic fashion, as one man might grope another. Y'know.
<6> skoal: like. check this. I had two directories. both had IDENTICAL permissions SAVE for the USER ACCOUNT that had full access. I ftp in as one user account and I can get into that account's directory, and not the other one. Fine. I login to the other one, I can get into both. I spent FIFTEEN MINUTES generating screenshots of the permissions tabs, group memberships, and the FTP sessions side by side just to prove to you ****s I w
<6> right after I finished the screenshots, I tried again
<6> worked fine
<12> any idea why DNS wouldn't work on winXP? i'm able to ping ip external addresses but pings to yahoo.com etc won't work. I have all firewall setting sdisabled.. how do i troubleshoot this?
<1> look at your network interface settings.
<12> tcp/ip settings are all set for dhcp, no other unusual settings
<1> no manually entered DNS addresses?
<12> other computers on the network are using dns normally, the laptiop in question gets a list of dns servers to use but seems unable to resolve
<12> no manual, only those from dhcp
<12> i tried manual and it didn't work either
<1> ipconfig /all, get the listed DNS addresses, see if they're pingable.
<12> they are all pingable
<12> just like the rest of the internet by IP, but not by hostname or domain
<1> what does nslookup say?
<12> didn't get that far yet
<12> nslookup what?
<1> nslookup www.yahoo.com
<12> what should i see?
<1> Address: 192.168.0.4
<1> Non-authoritative answer:
<1> Name: www.yahoo.akadns.net
<1> Addresses: 68.142.226.56, 68.142.226.55, 68.142.226.37, 68.142.226.43
<1> 68.142.226.49, 68.142.226.36, 68.142.226.38, 68.142.226.48
<1> Aliases: www.yahoo.com
<1> (FQHN of server removed.)
<12> will try that.. but laptop's being used by someone at the moment
<12> anyidea what i might see in my case? and what it could mean?
<12> first i thought it was something running on the machine but i pretty much stopped all processes and still had this issue, the owner also tried to restore the system back to when it was working fine to no effect
<1> could be timeout error, could be winsock error, etc. dunno.
<12> you use a local dns server, that's nice what do you run?
<1> 2000.
<13> It's about evenly parted here. 2 XP boxes, 2 win2000 boxes, and soon to be a linux box.
<14> OMGZOR LINEX??
<13> actually that's quite accurate. The backup server is run win2k server. Not a lot of i/o.
<13> isn't quite accurate.
<15> can someone please get me a link to d/l trial Visual basic 6
<8> No.
<15> why thank you
<15> all I See are ****ing plugins
<1> if he's asking for a trial, how is that warez? granted, the fault here is that he's not sharp enough to look for something that should be freely available. however, VB6 is old as balls and probably isn't even supported by MS anymore.
