<1> thats something thats really convenient about replaytv. you can download the mpeg data as well as the a/v cadence data and theres some open source software out there which will use that cadence data to automatically chop out the commercials and rebuild a new mpeg file

<1> actually if you can get booted off a CD just fine and the system runs stable, it makes me guess that perhaps if the onboard thermal monitoring system is reporting bogus results, and if you have some software installed on Windows which is designed to shutdown your PC in an unsafe situation of monitoring data, that could be it.
