<7> yea <8> is there a way to kill it? <0> Yeah it's a proc. <0> you can kill that and explorer and then restart explorer manually <8> never really had a need to but would b enice to know <8> hrm <8> about about servs? <8> or is explorer dependent? <9> What do you think of this -> http://www.amazon.com/gp/richpub/listmania/fullview/R3JID8U3SW7V0H/103-3124369-6598215 <10> I think those amazon 'listmania' lists are mostly a pile of crap, and spamming IRC to bump your webhits is equally crappy. <8> and spamming IRC to bump your webhits is equally crappy. <eh? <11> hi <11> how can i change windows xp key easily ? <11> i need answer immediately :( <7> key? <11> yes <10> Synaux; that was cpt_kirk's own 'listmania'... presumably he's trying to boost his 'viewed' count to make his list look better. <10> hoppp; there's a procedure, but I dunno what it is. one way would be to run a 'repair' install, as that asks for the key. <10> there's probably an easier way. <10> involving reactivation. do be aware, not all keys work on all SKU's of XP... in fact, most keys only work on a specific SKU (CD version). for instance, OEM keys don't work on non-OEM versions, etc. Dell keys don't work on non-Dell OEM versions <10> !google change XP key site:microsoft.com <12> http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q328874 <7> hoppp why u gotta change your key? <10> shammy, give ya 3 guesses. <5> ****. I'M STILL AT WERK. <13> ? <14> I think he's got that line on some sorta timer <15> Hello <15> Does anyone know of an app that cleans up windows to the most compact version? <5> MmM. Chickan juice facial. <5> I love you chickan. <10> Izmar; to what purpose? if you're building an embedded system or such where size is really important, there's XP Embedded, a OEM version of windows thats completely ala-carte and customizable. <10> !google xp embedded site:microsoft.com <12> http://msdn.microsoft.com/embedded/windowsxpembedded/default.aspx <16> I'm trying to install win2k on a harddrive connected to a raid controller. When loading win2k setup I'm using a driver disc to enable the raid controller. Everything is fine and I format the partition and windows is copying its files to the drive. when 99% complete, I get messege saying that it can't copy "arcldr.exe" from the CDROM, from that only option that works is to skip the file, and then I get same messege with NTLDR, NTDETECT et <16> c. So it won't really finish the installation. Now I'm back at square one. <10> sounds like a hardware problem to me... is the system a commercial server ? whats the system maker say about win2000 support? <10> is this a new system, or a reinstall on a old system that used to work? <16> peerce, A new installation on a formatted partition. <10> I was asking about the hardware <10> is this a new server or an old server or what? <17> touch my hardware. <17> me unzips <16> peerce, define server <10> well, RAID is normally used with servers. ok, s/server/system/ <17> non-descript box containing necessary pieces parts and software that users access across a network for at a minimum file and print servers. <17> s,print servers, print services, <16> peerce, well then I don't know. <10> you don't know if its old or new hardware?!? <10> huh? <16> peerce, the controller is brand new. <10> what sort of raid is this? scsi, sas, fiberchannel, SATA, parallel ATA? if its ATA, is it real hardware RAID like 3ware, or is it 'BIOS RAID' like all that promise etc crap? <16> ATA133 <17> "etc crap" <16> BIOS RAID <17> tell us how you really feel abou software raid! <10> Mahdi; I have nothing against software RAID1 when properly utilized. the rest of software raid is mostly a bad joke. <16> peerce, so how do I fix this. <10> Alex29; ok, its a new raid controller. is the system itself old or new? <16> peerce, well its a 800mhz computer. So I guess its old. <10> you guess? <18> Alex29: Does that installation CD work on other systems? <19> ****ers <16> its a p3 800mhz <18> Or with another CD drive? <16> fdiv_bug, yes it does, because its original. <18> It sounds to me like your RAID is functioning fine, but your CD was having trouble reading that file. <16> fdiv_bug, no, I tried with two cdrom drives, its not that. <10> Alex29; your last statement doesn't compute. what does 'original' have to do with 'work' ? <18> But, I'm not a Windows guy and I'm not sitting in front of the system so I'm probably wrong. <16> peerce, You're right, it does work fine. <10> an original win2000 CD could be up to 6 years old. it could be scratched or have bit rot or another CD media problem
