<0> any idea how it could have been corrupted all of a sudden like that? all i did was replace a dvd-rom with a dvd burner - then powered back on <1> like rice crispies <1> slaman: it could have screwed with drive lettering. <0> that would prevent winxp from loading? you would think winxp could handle that <2> are any of you guys going to the CES show in vegas to see bill gates? <1> a few of em are. <1> i was going to go but something came up <2> like what? ***? <3> i am trying to resize a partition on a disk, but when i try to using extend volume via windows2000 disk management, it says i cant because the dynamic disk was originally created on a basic disk. Can i use partion magic or any other partion resizer programs to extend a partion on a dynamic disk? <1> unright: man, i wish. <1> thats a rebuild <3> no ****inh way <3> okay this gets a litle tricky <3> but can i use the unused space to make a new volume, then copy all the data from the other volume to it, then erase the old one, and create a new one, and copy it all back over? <3> this is just data that is shared over a network, not the system files or anything <1> unfortunately the entire disk is now a dynamic disk
<3> and you cant resize dynamic partitions? <3> argh!! <1> no =( Windows ****s. <1> I think it warns you or something before you do it <3> okay new idea.. <3> i slap in another hd, and make it a basic disk <3> then i copy all the data over from one hd to it <4> unright; thats what I do to resize stuff.. spare drive, ghost -> spare, reparttion original, ghost back <4> [ghost or another imager] <3> hrm <4> acronis is supposed to be quite good <3> heres my problem, i have this dynamic disk that had 40 gigs unused space, and data on it.. i am adding a 3ware raid card to mirror an identicle drive. but first i want to make use of the entire disk <4> then I'd ghost, make the raid, and restore. <4> so you're restoring to the raid <3> yeah but i dont know how ghost/acronis will take to a 3ware raid card <3> so i was trying to get the drives right before i mess with the card <1> acronis 9is evil. <4> raid contollers usually need to put metadata on the drive outside he partitions, or have a special meta data partition for that purpose, so you can't just take an existing drive and put it on a raid <4> um, put the 3ware drivers on a BartPE boot cd with GHOST or whatever <4> !info BartPE <3> well dammit, this is a bitch <4> btw, *MAYBE* 3ware can 'import' a volume like that, I honestly dunno. <4> only raid stuff I've worked with has been SCSI or fiberchannel <3> yeah <6> http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0105061nunnelee1.html#hottie <- wow.. it seems as if there's alot of women teachers fondling young boys nowadays. <7> hey anyone know what to do about the virus that's spread by typing contrl + alt + del ? I heard it's suposed to wipe out every computer in the world <1> retard. <8> totally <4> azure; only in the young boys dreams :D <3> okay how bout this <1> i go to high school high <3> can i slap the card in, then just do a regular windows copy of all the data from the original dynamic disk to the new disk on the raid <3> (which is still on the mobo IDE channel) <4> there ya go <3> then i got one disk on the riad that has my data <3> then slap the other disk on it and make the array <3> oke <3> brb <3> one other unrelated question <4> heh. guy at the bar in the pub here (I'm eating a late lunch) has a t-shirt "Friends don't let friends drink white zinfandel" :D <1> hehe zifandel <1> i have some in my fridge! <3> im also trying to take a hd and clone it to another while resizing <3> but everytime it says NTFSLDR not found <4> real zinfandel is deep red and shouldn't be chilled.. <9> how the **** does this happen <3> argh!! <4> white zin is an abomination <9> i can ping 2 machines, but i don't know where they are <1> ****ed if i know peerafk =) <1> im not a wine guy <9> i even physically looked for the machines <1> iut was a gift <4> unright: boot the system CD and do a fixmbr <4> and fixboot <4> sorry, RECOVERY console and all that <9> if someone gave me a white zin for a gift, i'd hand it back and say, "thanks but no thanks" <4> !info recoveryxp <4> good zinfandel can be a wonderfuly complex and intense red.
<4> that white stuff is just yuck. sodapop <9> yea, i'm a huge fan of zin <2> its greygoose or bust <4> used to be a botique winery in monterey, Monterey Peninsual Winery... made these AWESOME strong zins from old vines, were often 14-15 % <4> chewy, intense stuff <4> my ffiend used to have cases of it because she was their bookkeepere :D <9> ever had rosenblum's old vine stuff? <4> not offhand. haven't been drinking much wine of late <9> sorry to hear :) <4> more into microbrew ale <9> i avg 4 or 5 bottles a week :) <4> we keep a supply of Hafner Cab and Chard around the house, excellent cl***ic french style reds and whites, made by a small winnery in alexander valley <4> estate grown and all that. nicely aged BEFORE they ship it. its onoly available direct <4> in fact, if you're in the BA, they deliver in person :) <2> if you want to get a woman drunk real fast ..buy her baileys cream..its sweet and filled with alcohol..the sugar transports the alcohol through her tiny system so fast her panties will be given to you before you say "check please" <4> yuck <1> panties are gross <4> and baileys cream isn't that great either. its good in coffee, I'll grant that <10> well when you wear them, of course <11> anyone use baracude? <11> networks spam applaince <11> (figured I better qualify my statement) <1> i saw one once on a rack <1> that makes me an expert <4> I saw an ad for one once :D <12> CAn anyone recommend a good channel for help with Windows 2000? <1> #bearcave <11> ok <11> i want to get rid of spam ******in for spam control <2> lol <11> and im thinking of an appliance <2> what kind of an appliance? a washer or dryer? <4> whoa. a trail is goioing by <4> 3 engines? yah. <4> train <4> bunch of lumber cars <4> barracuda spam appliance-> http://www.barracudanetworks.com/ns/ <12> sartan, ha ha <11> yeah peerce, thanks <11> been there for a while :) <1> yeah osvaldo_f can't you read the topic <13> Is wine still vulnerable to WMF flaw? <1> zifandel or merlot <4> cabernet or chardonnay? <12> I was hoping it wasn't an accurate one <6> ever get a twitchy eye? I hate that.. it's been twitching all day today <1> try blinking <14> hey, dumb question. I burnt several backups of my files, using Nero 7. Wiped my computer. Put in my backup dvds, all of them say blank (no i did not burn in backup mode, just standard burn). Windows sees them as blank. I decided to view the disk in a track editor (basically hex editor) my files are there. I extracted the track into an ISO and opened it in winrar. its extracting now. but my question is. How the hell did this happ <1> Nero 7 ****s, mluschas <14> ok besides that <4> I've had no problems with nero7 <1> make sure you verify your media before this happens. <14> i did <1> i paid for nero7! really! and it su cks. <1> anyways mluschas <14> and it verified the backup data was written to <14> and i had even shut it down and restarted, the data was there <1> nero 7 uses special properitary asapi drivers 'n ****. did you have nero 7 installed and updated when you tried to restore? <4> nero has always used its own ASPI drivers <14> yes i reinstalled nero7 <4> since windows doesn't have any ASPI layer <1> winaspi.dll ! <4> that was a adaptec scsi controller thing originally <14> and now im extracting the track with nero <4> thats not stock with windows <1> actually peerce <1> there is one now. <4> now, windows DOES have a native NT scsi access method, but its API is way harder to use than ASPI (typical MSFT) <1> nero just uses it's own <4> its done with IOCTL calls <1> essentially a windows xp with nero intalled has two on <4> *ALL* the ASPI layers for windows translate ASPI calls to those native NT calls <14> im using server 2k3 R2 <4> since they can't talk direct to the hardware
