MC takes 40 players on a raiding party, and the 10th boss only drops a dozen or so pieces. so for everyone on the guild to load up with armor etc, they'll have to hit it at least a dozen times.

<1> You really can't paint yourself into a corner with your character in EVE, so long as your attributes are decent (and if you do your best to balance them, then you'll be fine).
<1> All skills can be acquired by all characters. That's not to say you can train everything, but unlike other games if you start out with one character idea and realize you'd like to change directions or specialize later you won't necessarily have to re-roll.
