I would suggest one of two things in that circumstance: Create a fat32 partition dedicated to transferring data back and forth between operating systems, or, if the Linux install is installed on ext2, use the ext2fs driver for windows to read/write data from the linux partition while in windows (or just read-only if its ext3) and while in linux, you can get a read-only ntfs driver.
