<0> I had powerstrip in <0> but it wasn't really helping me, but i was probably doing it wrong <1> most of them center around oc'ing and tweaking features for speed vs quality display. <0> what is the avivo engine or whatever ati has <0> this is a 420p plasma <0> ( 43" Panasonic EDTV) <0> 42 <2> preach open catalyst:under monitor properties u need to go to HDTV support and add 720p (checkmark it) <0> I was trying to get this to work all night <0> ok <0> i'm reinstalling my drivers, i broke them, i'll try that in a second. <0> does anyone know why when i choose 856x420 as the resolution its just a small box <0> but on 780x420 its full? <1> preach_: In the utilities section of the driver download tree is a utility to clean up a sloppy uinstall. Works great. <2> u need to learn your resolutions man <3> catalyst. yuck
<4> what's this 'u' stuff? <1> preach_: re: small box. DITHERING MAN, DITHERING. <3> ATI catalyst drivers are severely crippled in the name of promoting their FireGL series of cards to professionals, which are the SAME ****ING CHIPSETS, but a slightly different hardware ID. The same thing technically happens with nvidia geforces and quadros, but they arent as evil as ATI. <3> They are so crippled that they have to selectively uncripple things in consecutive driver releases in order to support features in new games. **** a bunch of ATI. I hate them <0> tomomi <0> but the edtv resolutions are 848 or 856 <0> actually my tv does full screen at 1024x720 <0> so, would I be able to open media center on just the tv, while seeing the desktop on the monitor <5> z0g^g: My Radeon 9800 Pro performs quite well and was reasonably priced. <0> (i'm not a noob in everything else, this stuff just confuses me) <5> That's pretty much what I ask. <3> fdiv_bug: Sure but ever had to use that card in Pro/Engineer? <0> is there a way to load a fail safe resolution <0> because my monitor is still just flashing at login <1> preach_: No need to be defensive. <0> after i re-instealled <5> z0g^g: Nope. It's not a Pro/Engineer card, though, so I wouldn't be surprised if it were sub-par. <0> tom: hehe <3> fdiv_bug: It totally blows chunks, but you know whats so amusing? You can load up the russian hacked FreeFireGL drivers, and it will perform quite admirably. stellar in fact. <0> is there a failsafe keystroke like in powerstrip <5> z0g^g: That's nice. <0> like the alt+ctrl+S <3> fdiv_bug: But ATI doesn't want you doing your engineering work on a $100 video card, they want you to buy a $800 firegl <5> z0g^g: Of course. There what we in America like to call a for-profit business. <0> is there a way to reset my resolution? <5> z0g^g: Do you also hate Microsoft for e.g. XP Home and Pro? They're basically the same thing, only one is crippled and priced lower for people who don't need the higher-end features. <6> WTF is a WVX file? <5> golfii: OMG, WVX? NSFW! LOL! <3> fdiv_bug: Anyway back onto my ATI rant. the same issus that cause ATI with standard catalyst drivers to blow chunks in Pro/E are not exhibited in NVidia cards running stock detonator/whateveer the **** they call them now drivers <0> neverind it came up <6> nsfw?, what does that mean? <6> :/ <5> z0g^g: Please answer my question about Microsoft and Windows XP. <5> ghk: Not Safe For Work. <5> I was being mocking, with acronyms. <7> PCMCIA <3> the thing with microsoft man, your grandparents dont need your computer to support domain membership and WMIC and **** like that. <5> TWAIN! <3> they just want to download their digital camera pictures of their grandson <5> z0g^g: And your gamer doesn't need support for high-end CAD applications. <5> They just want to play Counter-Strike. <3> so, i get what youre saying. the price difference with the cards is more in the software side of things, youre paying for more sophisticated drivers, not necessarily hardware <3> see its a difficult comparison because microsoft, with regards to windows, is a purely software distributor <3> whereas the graphics card companies are distributing both software and hardware <8> so i installed fbsd on my laptop on another partition, selected no boot mgr.. but apparently it wont boot to windows anymore.. just goes straight to bsd <5> z0g^g: You're also paying for support. <5> z0g^g: If you called ATI up and were having problems with Pro/E on your x800 with Russian drivers, they'd laugh at you and hang up. When your business depends on that, that's not exactly an ideal vendor interaction. <0> illness <0> u stil laround, i got my resolutions working now <3> although ironically i would tend to believe the consumer cards cost more to support. They are constantly revising their cards to support troubles with various games as they come out. We're still using the old FreeFireGL drivers on our Radeons 9800s which are version 3.something. Professional OpenGL hasnt changed significantly. <3> So I really dont buy the support argument. <3> err. constantly revising the drivers, rather then the cards <9> so how do we get the free windows vista? <1> z0g^g: budget cards are the real cash cow. <5> z0g^g: They may have to make more updates, but the margin of error is higher and they can kill many birds with one stone. <5> If you're having vertex rendering issues or whatever the **** in Pro/E or something, then they have to chase that down until it's fixed. <5> That probably costs more in engineer time for them. <5> But, I'm not interested in figuring out ATI's internal operating costs. <3> No, its a purposely crippled function, thats all there is to it <5> I just wanted to highlight another one of your double standards. :)
<3> meh.... <5> z0g^g: Back to your Microsoft point about their only being involved in software. Isn't this discussion entirely about software? <3> i dunno. i throw in the towel. you are teh winnar. <5> Because you said yourself, it's a software handicap. <5> Such as something like you might find in, oh, Windows XP Home. <0> ok I got it working <5> z0g^g: I just tire quickly of hypocrisy, is all. <1> god this apartment is hot. /me strips. <3> I must tire quicker., <5> z0g^g: At least, of other's hypocrisy. <5> Coz if you tired more quickly of your own then you'd be tired a lot, based on conversations I've had with you. <3> heh. its not that much of a debate to me, im just really just yacking about stuff ive experienced on the job. <1> CAN'T EVEN GET THROUGH BREAKFAST WITHOUT A NICE JUICY RATIONALIZATION. <10> sup peeps <5> z0g^g: I just find it funny that you're bitching about one instance of a business model while not bitching about the same model from another vendor. <5> Well, not funny. <5> Irritating. <5> But, y'know, whatever. <3> yah. whatever. i get it. its ironic or something. <3> i eat crow sometimes, y'know <5> Like Alanis Morrisette's career. <11> The kosher phone is stripped down to its original function: making and receiving calls. There's no text messaging, no Internet access, no video options, no camera. More than 10,000 numbers for phone ***, dating services and other offerings are blocked. A team of rabbinical overseers makes sure the list is up to date. <11> hehe <3> Dont be dissing Alanis now! <5> Barsky: Is that serious? <11> she should have kept her clothes on for that cover :) <11> http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12082960/ <3> How does that stop one from using a calling card to make their phone *** calls (proxy)? <11> well, if you'd buy such a thing one would think you wouldn't circumvent it. <11> not like they're forced to buy it <3> or if its a 1800 number, that can be made from any payphone. therefore the only trouble would be finding an actual phone booth, where you can close the door for a private wank. <5> Barsky: If it weren't for the fact that's dated 2006/03/31 I'd think it were an April Fool's joke. <11> heh yeah <11> it's real <1> Since I started using a flat rate carrier and calling card, I've had $0 charged from the flat rate carrier in 6-9 months. <8> so now that i have fbsd installed, is there any way of booting back to windows? <3> my cellphone. most people i know are cingular customers, so i get like 4000 minutes for that, i maybe use 30 minutes/month of my non-cingular non-weekendnight minutes per month. <3> i would love to just totally disconnect my home line, but Hellsouth requires it for adsl :( <12> im real happy with having a landline <1> jeev3: Try linuxdoc.org and read. <12> nice to be able to call 911 and know it'll work :) <3> The law around here, if you discontinue phone service, you must still be provided a dialtone that only dials 911 <11> screw that. dump thier landline and adsl and get speakeasy's adsl that doesn't require a landline <12> ahhhhh well then <12> hehe <11> dedicated pair adsl. <5> Heya Pfft. <0> i'm confused. <11> Called Onelink <12> hi fdiv <0> How can i get all the desktop icons, etc on my monitor, and the movies/tv stuff on my flat panel tv? <0> right now it is the opposite <12> thought of you the other day when i was looking at freebsd kernel CPU detection output :-) <11> course, cheaper yet to get cable modem <1> I've had my current ISP for over 10 years, pay annually, and am not about to change. <5> Pfft: Heh. <12> (trying to figure out if a p4 was 500 or 600 series) <5> Pfft: [15:17] *** ircname : $ cat /proc/cpuinfo <5> :) <12> hehe <11> can't say I miss having a landline at all <11> and I feel good not letting the phone company screw me for it with this bull**** about needing it for adsl :) <12> ya if you know you'll have good signal a cell is fine for 911 <12> ok <12> time for decent **** again <3> cable modem, i would p***. a buddy of mine has cable, and got a nasty legal letter for downloading movies. you know, the cable company has it in their best interests to rather you pay for movies via pay-per-view then download them... not that i support his behavior, but i certainly do not support the lack of privacy that aforementioned cable company gives their customers <5> I get spotty reception in the new house, though, so I got Vonage. <11> guess it depends on the cable company. Comcast probably wouldn't know how to do that ;-) <1> My ISP doesn't give a **** about what you've got on your end, servers, whatever. So long as you aren' DDOSing them. <1> (they've got HUGE pipes.
