<Yashy> yet I have nothing in /var/log/messages regarding queries, and I don't have logging defined in named.conf.. any ideas where my query logs are going? <DigDug> i want to do something like: ssh digdug@box1 "tar -XXXX somefiles.* | gzip -9" > fileonbox2.tar.gz <Yashy> I do have other named stuff in messages, just not queries <Mouring> -cvf - somefiles <Mouring> the key being -f - <Mouring> Tar to -f (file) where - is "STDOUT" <Phylum> wettoast: if I mount as root everything is chown'd root:root and I can't change the permissions (can't chown user:user) <DigDug> ahh <DigDug> thanks <DigDug> tar: -: Could not stat: No such file or directory <DigDug> freebsd, btw <Mouring> tar -cvf - dir/ > file.tar <Mouring> has ALWAYS worked.. from Cygwin to FreeBSD to old old old SunOS 4 <DigDug> ahh <DigDug> -cvf as opposed to -cfv <DigDug> gracias <Mouring> the order is very important <Mouring> -c -v -f - <Mouring> -f - -c -v <Mouring> -v -c -f - <Mouring> ..etc.. <DigDug> nod. <DigDug> thank you very much <wettoast> Phylum: have you heard of chmod? <wettoast> make the mount directory before you mount in to it, and set permissions before. <Mouring> phylum -o uid=2134 <Mouring> -o uid=2342 -o gid=2312 <Mouring> Please read the smbmount manpage. <wettoast> god damn it, this is the 2nd memorex dvd-r that wont work properly <wettoast> whole movie burned, and then it fails on the lead out! <wettoast> Firmware Upgrade KY06 <wettoast> DRU-800A | DRX-800UL <wettoast> <wettoast> * Improvements: Writing performance and reliability improvements <wettoast> well, look at that! im at KY05 <Yashy> The day apple released the new x86 macs, the stocks ended at 80.86? <wettoast> looks like AMDs socket M2 is comming soon <Mouring> But the good news is that the iMac is socketed! <Kalin35> Anyone know What is the command to list all commands currently being run by a certain user. <Figz> top -U user is the nicest.. ps -u may also be supported on your system <Figz> failing that, ps aux or ps -ef |grep user <Kalin35> Thanks u <pbug> morning <Figz> good moring pbug, europe <pbug> yeah snowy europe.. the expected snow came this morning :) <dhartmei> staying at home :) <pbug> I heard vancouver had 25 days rain straight which caused some mudslides in north vancouver <Figz> vancouver skipped rain yesterday, but other than that it's 31 days straight.. <pbug> wow <Figz> (just missed a record) <Figz> they're concerned about north vancouver <Figz> every year they work higher up those mountains <pbug> the only cool thing about rain is the rainboots and raincoats.. the latex smell from those is ***y <pbug> makes me think about kindergarten and young ***y kindergarten teachers <Figz> had to read that sentence right to the end to get the proper meaning.. <pbug> yeah I tend to take a set of words shake them up in a hat and write them out as I pull them out of the hat <pbug> mmhh this new chair is comfy <pbug> no more sitting in a producers chair <Figz> I sat in a leather one I liked a while back.. but it was $800 and I really couldn't justify it. :P <belter> you can if your current chair gives you bad problems <belter> mine does, so here's my pay-pal info <Figz> the chair I'm sitting in was $25, provides arm support to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome, and doesn't appear to give me back problems.. <Figz> it's hideous blue plastic and bent steel <belter> i just wore out my 90 dollar chair in 2.5 years <Figz> with a folded up sheet for a seat, purchased from a city auction <belter> nice <belter> auctions are nice <pbug> this chair was 649 euros discounted down to 399, good thing I wasn't paying or else I wouldn't have bought it <pbug> I would have bought a chair for 250 max <Figz> come to think about it.. I think the leather chair was $1200, and a non leather in the same style was $800.. <Figz> still too much.. I think the retail markup for the place was very high, but I've not seen the line elsewhere <belter> it's just we are not ment to sit for 12 hours a day no matter how leet your chair is <Figz> true.. we're meant to walk fscking 12 hours a day instead :P <pbug> if walking paid well I'd do it <Figz> it pays off if the water's on one side of your valley, and the game's on the other side <belter> field tech...close enough <dasK_> hey if anyone can help me with ultimate ircd please let me know.. <pbug> re <johna> hi again. I have a strange proble. A bash script is running perfectly when called from the shell. The same cmd from cron with the full path seems to be executed, but does nothing. The script can take few minutes to complete because he creates an index, that's ok. Any ideas ? thx <pbug> feel free to give up more information, use a pastebin like http://www.devrandom.org/p <johna> It's like if the cron could only run "shorts" scripts.. <dhartmei> add in echo statements, like echo "reached line 100" etc. and see (you get a mail with that output) how far it gets <johna> ok I'll that thx <pbug> might as well try a "set -v " at the top of the script, if it's bourne <pbug> or set -x <kalc> hey guys, whats the difference between /usr/ports/ftp/ncftp and ncftp2 and ncftp3 ?! <DocRadium> version. <kalc> i know but why there is 3 different versions and 3 different ports?! <Mr_You> 3 different ports for 3 different versions :-P <kalc> lol <kalc> i know <kalc> but why <kalc> different trees <kalc> just have one port with latest <Mr_You> please <Mr_You> stop <Mr_You> scrolling <kalc> thats why i notice with most common programs <kalc> this is the first time i see something like this <Mr_You> congratulations <pbug> natural human reaction to talk about it when you see something new <kalc> @_@ <Mr_You> I don't see whats so hard. <kalc> nothing hard <kalc> the quetion is why thats all <Mr_You> what other way is there? <pbug> kalc: have a closer look at the licenses.. maybe there is differences? <Mr_You> some people may need v1, some v2, some v3. <Mr_You> its up to the maintainer to decide what he/she provides. <Mr_You> ask him/her. <kalc> pbug: i didnt really read, the pkg-descr has the same <kalc> contents* <kalc> it seems there is major change between each verison and they kept it <kalc> just like apache 1.3.x tree and 2.x.x tree <Mr_You> thats usually the reason. <kalc> because their website doesn't really say much <mr_kalc> so many Mr's today :P <mr_kalc> why not join em <pbug> I'd like a mr big chocolate bar.. can't get those here in .de <Mr_You> they still made? <pbug> in canada I remember buying them, last I bought one was maybe 5 years ago <mr_z> hehe .. <Mouring> "Subject: RUSSIAN PROPOSAL! I am Mrs. Larisa Sosnitskaya a personal treasurer to Mikhail Khodorkovsky the Richest man in Russia [..]" ... woooohooo... A russian bride and she has a job with the richest man in Russia... Gravy train tonight! <pbug> I heard when you get a russian wife they will **** away your money quicker than an american wife and then they leave you.. if you wish to see them again you'll have to travel deep into the heart of the motherland in some place east of the ural mountains.. <Mouring> besides she can't go anywhere if I hold her green card and p***port. =-) <pbug> she'll go to the russian emb***y tell them you're holding her hostage in perfect russian and that's enough for them to fly her home as a VIP <grin> And if I only give her $10 a day it will take a while to buy a bus. <kneer0x> hoi <kneer0x> ok sed gurus. <kneer0x> "Random Name Here" <real@email.address.com>, <kneer0x> i want to remove everything but the real@email.address.com <Mouring> "You have to admit, of all the ways a Benihana chef could have killed the man--his expert wizardry with knives, his ability to dice raw meat midair, his precise spatularic stylings--he cleverly used a common shrimp. Those ninjas that disguise themselves as Benihana chefs are as cunning as they are evil..." <kneer0x> so like .. the end result would be "Random Name Here" <real@email.address.com", "Some Other Name" <some@other.addrss.com> would be real@email.address.comm, some@other.addrss.com <kneer0x> hoi monkey <Sobh_> I dont know kneer0x <Sobh_> Mouring and Figz once helped me with a sed command <pbug> kneerox: if you split them on individual lines after the comma delimiter you may be able to use this: $ sed -e 's/.*\<\(.*\)\>/\1/g' file <Mr_You> hahahaa "Bangladesh has told phone companies to stop offering free late-night mobile phone calls, arguing that they corrupt the country's youth." <Sobh_> is vnc like sun proprietary? <Sobh_> is there away to allow multiple client to use a VNC server, but all use a different cursor (so like you could all use software together) and then maybe split off to seperate desktops. is this doable? <DocRadium> no <pbug> iirc vnc was made at AT&T <Sobh_> sorry, i mean so they all use the same desktop <DocRadium> the underlying graphical user interface protocol doesn't handle that.
