<5> hi everyone :)
<5> i have a western digital mybook external hard drive that's connected to my computer via usb, i take it it'll show up without any problems in ubuntu yes?
<5> i guess the problem would be that it's formatted with ntfs so it's read only or something..
<3> bardun: fdisk -l will tell you
<5> oh i'm currently on a windows machine
<3> bardun: then take notes....
<6> it should show up in dmesg ..
<3> ya'd think?

<14> ndiswrapper just started to not load during startup so i have to 'modprobe ndiswrapper' in order to get wireless up and running. Where should I start looking to figure out why it doesn't load automagically? I've tried to run 'ndiswrapper -m' but it reports that 'modprobe config already contains alias directive'
<3> magneten_: dmesg will give some clues about the boot process... /var/log/syslog file may reveal other clues
<3> magneten_: look in /etc/modules and|or /etc/modprobe.d/ dir too
<15> G'Day all
<15> does anyone know how to reset the taskbar for Ubuntu's dsktop. My Bad I made mine go away
<14> awol : no errors reported by dmesg, and timestamps for ndiswrapper initialization verifies it was not loaded until i did so manually. /etc/modules had nothing (but has not been modified for ages either).
<14> /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper had this line alias wlan0 ndiswrapper
<14> however log in dmesg reported ndiswrapper: changing interface name from 'wlan0' to 'eth1'
<14> is having 'alias wlan0 ndiswrapper' in /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper enough to make it load at startup?
<14> should I perhaps change it to eth1 since ndiswrapper apparently insists on naming it eth1?

<3> magneten_: have you seen the ndiswrapper howto?
<3> searched the ubuntu forums?
<14> i've tried the latter
<3> try looking thru the docs at ndiswrapper.sf.net too
<3> i haven't played around with ndiswrapper a lot
<3> and i'm not thinking very clearly right now... it was 40C here today...
<14> sweet. where are you from, east coast?
<3> south coast... of oztrayleeya
<16> hello
<17> Hello everyone. I've used 6.06 x86 for a while before trying 6.10 64bit and now i'm on 6.10 x86 to avoid 64bit problems with wine and etc other programs.
<17> I have a mythtv problem that has come up again since I switched back to x86.
<17> It will not start at boot and invoke restart shows an "Authentication Rejected" error, though when started manually with sudo -u mythtv it starts with no problem.
<17> Has anyone else experienced this issue?
<17> Ok wow, I think I just figured it out.
<17> Apparently if you change your p***word in mythtv-setup, it will not change it in /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt
<17> so when rebooting it will not start mythtv-backend :)
<17> ok.. well i guess this should be a bug. sorry for flooding the chan, l8r everyone.

<15> Does anyone know how to Re_install a taskbar for the Gnome desktop... I was stupid and deleted mine
<16> gnomekill or somthing refreshes it i think?
<16> have u rebooted?
<3> tester_: at worst rm or mv $HOME/.gnome dir or similar and it'll recreate the defaults next login
<3> gnome-panel command will restart it
<18> hi, how can i restart inetd? /etc/init.d/inetd restart didnt work, cause there is no inetd in the init.d dir
<15> Ahh Thank you

<30> here's a question... I just installed ubuntu, and everything seems pretty nice. The problem is that there is only one printer in the house, and it's connected to a windows computer. is there any way to access it through ubuntu, or not? I'm guessing not, but I had to ask
<30> nevermind, it found the printer when I went to add new printers
<16> i've recently installted php5, apache2, mysql5, on ubuntu, just having trouble getting apache2 to perform the actions in the htaccess. I know its valid from the live server. do i enable it somehow in apache2 ? tell it to look for it ?
