<0> hopefully someone can help me out. I was running the adept updater and my computer crashed in the middle of a large update. All the files were downloaded and it was installing them. My network card is no longer recognized. Is there a way to start the update process from where it left off? <1> I know it works in debian <1> but somehow, ubuntu deleted all the downloaded packages, and tried to download them all over again <1> this was when upgrading to breezy <2> yeah <2> get hold of an install cd <2> upgrade <2> the end. <3> im planning on installing windows on a new drive i have. i already have ubuntu installed on one drive. windows will prolly overwrite the MBR, so what would i have to do to be able to get back into ubuntu? <4> cool didn't know you guys had a channel <4> ok I built the new 2.6.17 kernel
<4> and lost my wifi card <4> http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/ <4> did everything it asked <4> still no wifi <4> any ideas ? <4> ok keep up the good work :D <4> happy idling <5> aleister crowley said hello <5> he was hanging out with eliphas levi last year <6> is there a way to force the desktop to a certain resolution automatically when a particular program is running and then have it switched back when it closes? or failing that, is there shell command that changes the resolution? <7> hey folks <7> how do i specify a partition on my hard drive as swap space <8> Does Ubuntu have support for Centrino Duo? <9> yes it does <9> http://tuxmobil.org/centrino.html <8> tnx <10> installed ubuntu 6.06 ... but i cant do "su" says pw is wrong .... what to do ? <11> sudo p***wd root <9> ubuntu doesn't have a root p***word as such <11> <normal user p***> <11> <new root p***> <11> <new root p*** again> <9> use 'sudo -s' to get a root prompt <11> to unlock root <10> tnx <10> worled <10> worked <10> one other question also... <10> running in vmware and trying to install vmware tools .. setup does not found make .. <11> install it then? <11> apt-get install build-essential <11> that should cover it ? <10> but vmware install says it cant find make <11> cuz ubuntu doesnt have it installed by default <11> installing build-essential should cover all u need to compile something <12> or without having to set a root pw you could "sudo su -" <2> MORNING <12> Good night <2> bbl <10> Alien_II yah of corse ... but its an installer .. no compiling, and after i had answeared a couple of questions its says it cant find the make command
<10> setup program is unable to find the "make" program on your machine. please make sure its installed. do you want to specify the location of this program by hand? <2> well then <2> open a terminal <2> do a "whereis make" <2> then specify it by hand <2> it's probably /usr/bin/make <9> whereis will only work if the local database has been updated (aka 'updatedb'), whereis uses the same database as locate <10> clark0r when i type make i get command not found <13> hi i wanted to try kubuntu and dual boot with xp. So when asked i told it to resize freespace. But altho kubuntu works fine i find that i can not boot into win xp anymore altho it is listed in the grub meny. <13> says filesytem unknown <13> partition 0x 7 or something <13> any solution? <2> sounds like somethign went wrong <2> why not install gparted in ubuntu <2> and see if it can see and recognise the xp partition for a start <13> i can mount it <13> and see files <13> it says: root hd0,0 , filesystem type unknown ,partition type 0x7 ,save default ,makeaktive, chainloader +1 <13> if that helps any <2> This error is returned if the partition requested exists, but the filesystem type cannot be recognized by GRUB. <2> Be sure to check your root(x,y) settings in your grub.conf. <2> __blu3ray: you might want to read this https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/10661 <13> clark0r: thx will check it out <2> np <14> How can i extraxt iso files? <15> mount + copy <14> **** i dont know <15> lol <16> how often is the kernal normally updated <15> basically you just need to mount the file to a directory; mount -t iso9660 filename.iso /path.to/directory <15> then you can use the /path.to/directory just as you would anything else <14> iso is not a block device (maybe try `-o loop'?) <15> follow what i gave in private, forgot to put that on in here :P <15> you need to create a dir with -p .. and then mount with -o loop as well <15> and just umount the dir when you're done <15> mount -o loop -t iso9660 filename.iso /path.to/directory <17> wich program should i use to synchronize with my HP iPaQ PDA ? <18> Hello <18> I have a little problem with internet on ubuntu <18> Ubuntu find my wireless networkcard, and i setting it up and "Activate" it <18> But is am on Internet now?
