<2> I was attempting to install Ubuntu after having already installed windows so I could dual boot. I think when I installed Ubuntu I accidentally put GRUB on the MBR because it refuses to work. Is there anyway to correct this?
<2> When I attempt to boot, GRUB dies at step 1.5

<7> zzzz: You basically have 2 options, reset it with the root account or open up the /etc/p***wd file (maybe called shadow if enabled) and start brute forcing (pick one)

<9> zzzz, yes there is, you can do it via a solution such as: http://governmentsecurity.org/archive/t2265.html . This example incoporates lilo, but you can p*** the same init argument to the kernel with grub
<9> or you can do it via chroot and a livecd or such

<6> how do u make totem play mms
<6> why dont they just fix this problem
<6> for totem to play mms
<6> anyone here
<6> talk
<9> zzzz, there are URLs in the topic for a reason, read the websites
<9> http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Dapper
<9> and use google, this isn't a one-stop-shop
<6> doesnt say anything

<6> about enableing mms
<6> for totem
<6> why didnt they just add it
<6> in the first place
<6> when they design this program
<9> if you googled, you'd know that is *does* support mms
<6> but it wont play
<9> totem isn't a very good application anyway, i'd suggest gmplayer or xine over it
<9> gmplayer will handle pretty much anything
<6> why they give it then
<9> because it looks nice and it's interface is user friendly
<9> you don't *have* to use it, use what works for you
<6> in fedore core 5
<6> everything works
<9> oh god
<6> right away
<6> didnt even have ot instal anything else
<13> stick to windows :)
<9> heavens no, then you may have to install something
<6> no
<9> bbl
<14> hiya
<14> is there something to overcome samba's 2GB file size limit?
<9> yes, http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&as_qdr=all&q=samba+2g+file+size+limit&btnG=Search&meta=
<9> iirc you need to mount samba with lfs (large file support), but i haven't used samba in awhile, so you'll have to google

<5> how do i upgrade from breezy badger to dapper drake?
<16> in console
<16> gksudo update-manager
<16> check for updates
<16> then click update
<16> :)
<9> aSt3raL, edit /etc/apt/sources.list replace every 'badger' with 'dapper' then 'apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade;
<9> err: apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
<5> ok
<5> thanks
<5> what if i do dist-upgrade first?
<5> i get an error
<5> Reading package lists... Done
<5> E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13 Permission denied)
<5> E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?
<9> hint on last line
<5> i did sudo
<5> i dunno
<5> i ran it seperate
<9> maybe you have synaptic open or such
<5> the update finished
<5> no im running dist-upgrade
<5> *now
<9> there's your answer
<5> so whats up?
<5> where you at?
<9> you can't use two upgrade commands (or a graphical client like synaptic and a command line upgrade) at the same time
<9> this is to stop packages being downloaded twice or interference ininstallation
<5> yeah im doing it from command line
<9> the lock file is there to show whether one application is doing a upgrade or update that is important enough to recommend the inability of usage of similar applications and/or processes
<16> I can't get synaptics to work on my laptop for mousepad suppression
<16> ****s **** :/
