<0> my ****ing trigger is failing a restrict and i have no idea why
<1> hey guys, in a setup with replication, is there a term for when the control goes back to a previously failed master?
<2> failback?
<2> dunno ;)
<3> are you talking about log shipping gambit?
<3> replication doesn't fail anywhere. unless you're on MSCS. then it fails over with the node.
<4> SQL Server 2000/2005: is there some wya to do 'select ... where foo in ('a','c','g')..."?
<5> are you trying to do something like: select * from table where data in ('1','2','3')
<5> ?
<4> yea
<5> sure it works
<4> is that valid SQL?
<5> I do it all the time at work

<5> although its rather inefficient
<4> is data = '1' OR data='2' any better?
<4> for n number of those
<5> I think that would be more inefficient
<4> so do i
<4> ok cool
<5> I think you can use exists in MSSQL
<5> I use exists in ORacle
<4> example?
<5> for MSSQL?
<5> Lemme find one
<5> http://www.techonthenet.com/sql/exists.php
<5> That explains it pretty well
<5> O'Reilly puts out a SQL pocket reference book too that I recommend
<1> drhyde__, Well you replicate so you have parallel servers, right? So if the master server fails, it moves over to the slave server. But when the master returns, it should switch back to the master from the slave. I was wondering if there was a particular term for that recovery :)
<6> setting my isolation level to UR solved most of my deadlocking issues
<6> longlife ****s... at least when I tried it in those crappy mall eateries
<7> pfn: yessua
<3> gambit, you're not making a lot of sense.
<1> drhyde__, I'm just looking for a term that may or may not exist :)
<8> failback?
<8> yea.. failback.
<9> failover
<8> nopers.
<10> yar
<10> damn, what a day
<11> tenfour: you around man?
<11> hey guys .. I have a production db.. an the tlog is getting huge
<11> the DB itself is like 700mb
<11> and the tlog is 2.7GB
<11> we have 500-1000 transactions per day on the DB
<11> I ***ume that's why the tlog is so big
<11> is there a way to make the tlog smaller going forward?
<8> you smaller with every transaction?
<8> not unless there's some phenomena im not aware of
<11> not sure what you mean
<8> you could do transaction log backups periodicaly
<11> everything is getting bigger ;)
<8> ***uming you already do some sort of backups on this database, no?
<11> yep.. i do a complete backup every day
<11> and the .BAK file is like 700mb as of today
<11> I understand the importance of the tlog,
<11> however I'm trying to avoid having a 2.7gb tlog ;)
<11> if i do them periodically,
<11> that would definitely help out
<8> sounds like you'd want to look into transaction log backups and ****
<11> cuz each one would be smaller
<8> *such
<11> yeah it looks like all tlog entries are all going into one file
<11> perhaps a maintenance plan might help?
<8> you could try shrinking your log, then start some tlog backups and maybe it'll stay reasonably small
<11> ha

<11> nice
<12> get 'er dun
<13> hello, i'm having a problem with mysql when i try to: SELECT * from articles WHERE title=''De-programming' of militants rapped in Australia (AFP)' it isn't returning articles where the title field is 'De-programming' of militants rapped in Australia (AFP)
<13> is this abug?
<13> its a text field so i don't understand why it won't return results
<13> hello
<13> MdSalih could you help me out at all?
<14> did you read the topic?
<14> haha
<14> topic is not what it normally is, but you got the private messages from the bots upon join?
<13> no?
<14> no homework, and no MySQL
<15> is anyone interested in doing some custom programming for a small payment? please send me a message
<5> $500 an hour :)
<16> is there a command to completely reset an oracle db? i want to delete all sequences and tables
<17> INSERT INTO ROOM
<17> VALUES ("16J02", "Adrian Finnegan", "100", "02890123456", "aidso@here.com", "My Own")
<17> Hi, with an INSERT statement is it possible to insert more than one row simultaneously?
<17> sorry about above
<18> hey guys
<18> I have a problem here
<18> "The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file 'C:\DATABASE\QUESTIONS.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data. "
<18> how do you troubleshoot that?
<19> do you have permissions?
<19> is it open for another user?
<18> nope ...
<19> nope what?
<18> the directory is set to allow full control by anyone
<18> no other users are connected to that computer
<19> what are the permissions on the file?
<18> let me verify
<18> all users have full control
<18> but I don't see ASP_NET debug user there
<18> shall I add it ?
<19> is that the user that needs to use the file?
<18> visual studio net has to be able to run the application
<14> you are accessing it through an asp.net application?
<18> yes
<18> ok, seems solved :)
<14> most likely a security issue then. you can open it with access?
<18> added asp.net user
<14> hehe
<18> sorry for disturbing you guys
<14> np
<15> is anyone interested in doing some custom programming for a small payment? please send me a message
<14> small payment?
<19> thats pretty open
<19> some custom programming for a small payment
<19> how about some background?
<19> or something?
<14> you could always msg him CoJoNEs
<19> I dont think I need to
<20> He needs a fully functional CRM program by Monday morning and he's willing to pay as high as $50.
<21> Arrakis: "I randomly type ****, call it a web page and the SEs sort it all out for me" - lol. "my pages are 3MB each but the SEs fix it" - lol
<21> admit it, you can't handle the truth - you're a complete MORON
<22> i'll do it in excel
<23> anyone know how to write sql queries
<22> hah
