<0> yeah nm. <1> how can I use Group By and select which record will represent the group by a parameter (highest value in a field for instance)? <0> ;) <2> hello ppl <0> hi <2> why sql search's are not case sensitive ? <2> for instance <2> ive tried : "SELECT * FROM Users WHERE Username = 'Test1'" and he return's me a row.. when the Username = 'test1' and NOT 'Test1' <2> how do i search with Case Sensitive ? <0> have you installed sql books online? <2> icnocop, im using a Remote database service <0> http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2152 <0> How can I make my SQL queries case sensitive? <3> http://vyaskn.tripod.com/case_sensitive_search_in_sql_server.htm <3> First hit on google for "sql server case sensitive". I know that's a very difficult search term to come up with. <4> lol
<5> you should add a !google function to a bot here <5> which returns the first hit <6> Do we all use relational DBMS, or DBMS? <6> From what I'm reading on the 1st page of this sql book, it says it's relational DBMS, becuase there are related tables.. ....... Isn't that a 'given' that a database consists of tables.. ? <7> No <6> Not much of a DB at all, if there are no tables. <6> Oh <7> While pretty much all systems have something akin to tables, some diverge from what you would consider a table quite quickly. <0> tables can be created during runtime <6> :o <6> Interesting <7> MVDBMSes have quite a different structure. Instead of tables they're called files, and they don't contain or enforce a single schema definition. <6> Wow, Is that the next generation of DB design? <7> In fact, depending on the business logic, you could pack all of the data into a single file, including relationships and heirarchies. <7> No, it was the last generation of DB design. <7> MVDBMSes were invented in the mid 60s <6> Hehe <6> Oh, :) <6> Thank you. <7> There are others as well. Object oriented databases, heirarchical databases, etc. <6> I need to do some more reading. <8> also, berkeley db which is 'simple' compared to rdbms stuff but is still relevant today <8> i guess that would be a combination of different db types though <3> Not sure how relevant bdb is nowadays. :) <8> it's used all over the place <3> gripe: So is cobol. :) <8> yes, agreed, but i've actually made use of applications that use bdb in the last 2 months (aside from far removed applications like fetching my account info over the phone from the telco) <8> svn, movable type, and openldap specifically <8> and of course, you can still use bdb backends for mysql! we mustn't forget the illustrious mysql <8> there are some other popular applications listed on the wikipedia page too <7> bdb is similar in architecture to DB4 and the like, isn't it? <8> i'm not familiar with db4 <8> but bdb does stuff like hash and btree databases <7> hm, guess not. DB4 and the like are more like traditional RDBMS tables that are just not organized into a single DB entity. <8> (but with concurrency/transaction suport) <8> and no network support <7> File-based DBs and networks don't generally mix well anyway <8> right <8> it'd be in the same vein as something like SQLLite as far as applicability <7> yes <8> good for bundling with an application that needs embedded DB <9> hello. anyone happen to have an old eval copy of sql server 2000? <6> The book im reading, talks about one method of making SQL queries, using the Microsoft Query Tool. It explains that Windows should have one of the two files 'msqry32.exe', 'msquery.exe', and that to search for them, and run it, and go through the next 5 steps. I could not find either on my WinXP SP2 setup. Is this something I can install from the Windows Components Add/Remove Programs Wizard? <6> Nevermind, I should try google 'cannot find msqry32.exe msquery.exe' first ;) <6> Hmm, comes from an Office95 CD.. heh <6> Hurtin' <10> kryps its not from windows, its from ms sql server <6> Ahh, right. :) <9> looking for the client tools for sql server 2000. if anyone can help you'd be a lifesaver ;0 <10> jonn dont private message people without asking, its rude <9> he seemed to be the only life in the channel... and thanks for being a snitch, kryps <3> jonn: Download the 180 day sql server demo and install the client tools out of that. <3> Nevermind then. :p <3> Oh. <10> heh <6> jonn_, i did the best I could do. I didn't want to feed my private-messaging logic to you and sound rude, and i didn't want to say it in the channel.. i just wanted an op to private message you, rather me. <3> kryps: 1) He left a while ago. 2) He's a tard, don't waste time apologizing. :) <11> huh? <12> Hello Everyone <13> hello
<11> hi <14> bah <13> yep. <12> :) <15> Is SQL Query Analyzer only distributed with the SQL Server application? <15> Can I purchase a copy seperately? <7> no <15> Thats no fun. :) <15> Is there any good SQL development tools that I could purchase seperately? <14> Vension: there are dozens <7> Query Analyzer only works with SQL Server. If you have SQL Server installed somewhere you can install the client tools on any machine in order to access it. <13> anyone know how to open a database up the internet ? <13> or even my local network ? <13> can anyone tell me how to do that thank. <13> s <7> Depends entirely on the database. <13> SQL express 2005. <14> hire a DBA <13> .... right.... <13> not at these prices. <14> anyway, this channel is about SQL, not database administration <13> im not talking admin. <13> im just talking remote access. <13> thats not admin. <7> That is administration <7> http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlexpress/archive/2005/05/05/415084.aspx <13> not really. <14> it's not SQL either <7> Yes it is <13> no its not. <14> it is <7> Database security and configuration falls under administratration <13> nope. <14> yes <7> Sorry, it is. Deal with it. <13> nah. <13> you deal with it. <7> I don't have to. <13> sure you do. <13> youre dealing with it right now. <7> You're the one who doesn't know how to administrate your DB. <13> not at these prices. <7> You want your money back/ <13> not at these prices. <6> repeating :( <7> It's amazing how true the topic really is. <14> heh <13> whats google ? <6> whats ban ? <13> its a deoderant... i think... for women. <14> no, that's secret <14> damn kids <6> someone silence this ..... person <14> he hasn't been rude, just argumentative and obstinent <6> I left home to get away from the whining, to get more of it on IRC <14> think of irc as a comedy <6> Haha <7> More like a kindergarten <14> I feel the need to go shoot things <15> I'll have to have them check out licensing agreement? Does the licensing agreement normally allow you to run query analyzer on more than one pc? <7> yes <6> Haha, rmah, the kid hater. I remember ya ;) <15> Thats even better than. Thanks <7> You can install the client tools on any number of PCs to access a licensed server. <14> I got my new paintball gun yesterday Halo_Four! <14> Tippman A5 w/12" vented barrel <16> is it intel powered? <14> and remote gas <7> congrats <7> I've never paintballed. <14> Jarett_: no, gas powered blowback <14> too bad, yous hould
