<Balistyx_> how can i tell if lpr rpm is installed? rpm -qa | grep lpr doesn't show anything
<Balistyx_> but /usr/bin/lpr exists
<OmegaEvil> http://youtube.com/watch?v=bfQabSJGsak&search=server
<OmegaEvil> ;-p
<Balistyx_> that doesn't answer my question :/
<OmegaEvil> rpm -q --whatprovides /usr/bin/lpr
<Balistyx_> holy ****
<Balistyx_> i never knew about --whatprovides
<Balistyx_> thanks OmegaGod!!!!!

<Hype> hi, i'm trying to install php-mssql-4.3.9-3.2.1.i386.rpm from http://phprpms.sourceforge.net on a RHEL 4 system, but rpm says that "libsybdb.so.4 is needed", does anyone know what packages I need?
<kitchen> Hype: does RHEL not provide a php-mssql package?
<kitchen> have you tried up2date --install php-mssql?
<Hype> no, they don't :(
<kitchen> weird.
<kitchen> i'm gonna guess that libsybdb is sybase something or other
<Hype> i've searched for sybase packages but not found anything
<Hype> i have the libsybdb.so.5 installed on the system
<Hype> how can I see which package the file belongs to?
<kitchen> rpm -qf /path/to/libsybdb.so.5
<OmegaEvil> Hype, make a symbolic link called libsybdb.so.4
<kitchen> that won't work
<OmegaEvil> pointing to the other link
<OmegaEvil> no guarantees
<kitchen> OmegaEvil: that won't work
<OmegaEvil> kitchen, you sure ?
<kitchen> yes
<OmegaEvil> the libs so much different ?
<kitchen> no
<kitchen> because the rpm db isl ooking for a package that provides that file
<kitchen> simply making a symlink on the filesystem doesn't change the rpm db
<OmegaEvil> he could use --nodeps
<kitchen> eh
<kitchen> that's fugly
<OmegaEvil> lol
<OmegaEvil> yep
<kitchen> my guess is he's trying to install the wrong version of the package
<OmegaEvil> as long as one knows what one is doing though
<Hype> ok, i'll try --nodeps
<OmegaEvil> yeh or that
<kitchen> Hype: don't
<OmegaEvil> Hype, dont
<kitchen> Hype: figure out if you've grabbed the wrong version of the package
<Hype> heeh, ok
<kitchen> perhaps you grabbed one for RHEL3 instead of 4 or something
<Hype> i've double checked that allready
<kitchen> ok
<kitchen> Hype: can you do 'uname -a
<kitchen> without the quotes
<kitchen> there's gotta be a good reason it's telling you that you don't have the file
<kitchen> perhaps you have an old version of the rpm that provides libsybdb.so ?
<Hype> freetds-0.63-2.i386.rpm provides libsybdb.so, freedts is from the same page as the php-mssql package
<OmegaEvil> http://phprpms.sourceforge.net
<Hype> http://phprpms.sourceforge.net/mssql
<OmegaEvil> you should stick to the release rpms
<Hype> OmegaEvil: yes i know, but redhat don't have any mssql packages
<OmegaEvil> Hype, hmmm
<kitchen> OmegaEvil: apparently rhel doesn't provide mssql php addapter
<kitchen> wait
<kitchen> mssql
<kitchen> like..
<Hype> kitchen: i know, there wasn't any for rhel3 either
<kitchen> microsoft ****Quel server?
<Hype> kitchen: hehe, yes
<kitchen> wtf
<OmegaEvil> lol
<kitchen> why are you using that pile
<Hype> we have users that need it
<kitchen> Hype: educate.
<Hype> like 2 of 150
<OmegaEvil> lololol
<OmegaEvil> then tell them...sorry
<OmegaEvil> arseholes
<kitchen> yea.
<kitchen> slap them in their faces.
<OmegaEvil> **** off good bye
<OmegaEvil> lol
<OmegaEvil> ;-]
<OmegaEvil> we no longer support mssql
<kitchen> Hype: looks like rpm.pbone has it
<kitchen> rpm.pbone.net look for mssql
<OmegaEvil> he could rebuild the rpm
<Hype> ok
<kitchen> you can then plug that into apt and just apt it
<kitchen> yea, he could
<balistyx_> who has their RHCE?
