<0> Lupine, there's still too much volume to scan for each word <1> thats the iranian emb***y in syria. if you call that from the usa I bet you get listened to <0> Is it really, bud? <2> long: true, but its rumored to be able to handle millions of communications a second <2> but its "okay" and the media ignores it, because clinton enacted it *rolls eyes* <0> Lupine, I think there's a difference between capability and practice. They can "listen" to everyone in theory but in practice it's still pretty much the way Bush described it <0> They're only going to bother if they really think you've got a terrorist connection somewhere <3> AP - The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee expressed skepticism Sunday over President Bush's domestic eavesdropping program, joining a chorus of Republicans and Democrats who are questioning its legal justification <2> longbow: echelon is completely seperate issue from wiretaps <0> Not really. The principle is the same, Lupine <0> Listening is listening, whether by wiretap or listening stations a la Echelon <2> not on how they "pick out" what lines to listen to. <0> Well, we know now that they scan phone record volumes in quantity for patterns <0> I' <0> I'm guessing Echelon would apply the same formula type <4> 08:52:01 15/01/2006 LOG
<0> You'd scan the huge volume of calls for key phrases, then launch your investigation from there, I'd think <2> right, its based on without any prior knowledge.. <2> as opposed to the wiretapes bush ordered, which were based on telephone numbers siezed from terrorist laptops/cellphones/etc <2> so, a US citizen, with no ties to terrorists.. is far far less likely to be monitored by the wiretaps, than echelon's replacement <0> Correct but Echelon would be more like the way the phone companies give their call volume records to NSA or whoever <1> Magic Lantern <5> lupine is so cool he rides a motorcycle <0> What's interesting is that under an Echelon-type program, I might be targeted if I'm a journalist using some of the "key phrases" in conversing with my editor <0> I wonder what the "key phrases" are <5> hacky sack <5> drinky bird <2> "Janet Reno *** Goddess".. that kind of stuff <1> that magic lantern was far worse than echelon or anything even remotley close to echelon <1> they actually wanted a WORM that harvested data from end users <2> yep <1> the FBI actually tried to strongarm some isp's into handing over data that worms had gathered <2> TEHRAN, Iran Iran, whose president has denied the Holocaust, said Sunday it would hold a conference to examine the scientific evidence concerning Nazi Germany's extermination of 6 million Jews. <0> Right. And they'd better need a warrant or official authorization to use Magic Lantern <0> Because now that's like the phone tapping again.. you have to have the target in mind first <2> yea, its just fine and dandy to target millions of people wihtout a warrant.. but oh no! can't target someone calling a terrorist up.. "thats bad" <0> It's a question of what's meant by "target" <2> i notice that many who are "upset" by listening to phonecalls to terrorists.. are perfectly fine with random sobiety check points, etc <0> If you scan millions of phone calls for key phrases, you're not going to even look at 99% of them <0> And if the algorithm is sophisticated enough you're going to be targeting the right people for further investigation <2> all without a warrant <0> Random sobriety check points have been found constitutional though <2> but that's okay.. if you "deny rights" of millions of people at a time, that's fine <2> but if you limit it to only those communicating with terrorists.. "thats bad". <0> Well, you always need to weigh other factors in...public safety and national security being prime examples <2> we live in a ****ed up society.. where the TSA agents in Miami International were told in writing to intentionally overlook some suspicious middle eastern people.. and pick out old ladies, etc.. so keep it "balanced" <0> "Rights" doesn't trump it all automatically <0> Yeah, that's just PC run rampant <0> Man, it's noon already. Got to go to dinner <0> Nice talking to you, be back later <5> get out BigED <3> AP - First lady Laura Bush said Sunday that the U.S. government is right to eavesdrop on Americans with suspected ties to terrorists, and that President Bush worries that revelations about the domestic spying program will cripple efforts to foil terrorists. <3> well as long as she says its alright <2> love it when its cold outside.. I can strap on my .44magnum for concealec carry :-) <2> gotta go grab some lunch, get some stuff at home depot <6> interesting <5> indeed <6> that fox news poll doesn't ask the same question as the zogby one <7> polls mean nothing <6> anyways thats not my issue du jour <7> 'cept when they support what FoxNews and the bush supporters want <6> what about that guy in california who's to be executed tuesday <6> (he's 76, blind, has diabetes, althizmers, etc. etc.) <6> they can't even wheel his wheelchair into the death room (cause it's not ADA compliant, irony much?) <7> haha <7> TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran, whose president has denied the Holocaust, said Sunday it would hold a conference to examine the scientific evidence concerning Nazi Germany's extermination of 6 million Jews. <5> a squirrel tried to jump up on and climb up my window <5> weird <7> hehe <7> i get birds smacking into mine. it faces east, so gives off a good reflection of the sky <8> Morning Gentlemen <7> i've never seen a squirrell up close <7> morning <7> rwx... <7> hmm <9> morning <4> Morning rwx
<5> l0c0 why ? are they afraid of you or are you afraid of them <7> haven't seen that nickname in a long time <7> redfish: hehe..nah, i live in the desert...dunno if there's any here <8> L0c0, Its been idling on channel for a long time ;) Just not speaking much. <7> haha <8> I am rercording 8 hours of the Alito hearings, I think I will break it into 2 4 hour movies. <9> rwx on your pc? <8> Turning the volume down because its boring ;) <8> Yep <8> On my PC <9> nice.. video caption cards are nice to have <8> Yeah, Its one of the reasons I bought this one. <8> Hey should you force your computer to use RAM when more is available ? Or leave it alone? <9> i use windvr and it saves as mpeg2.. but takes forever to reencode it to a dvd <8> This one came set up with a certain size page file. <9> does it just burn to dvd or do you have to encode it? <8> I should either I would think "Allow windows to manage it" or something else <8> The TV recorded movies from the DVR? They dont have any encoding. <8> I will probably have to compress them. <8> I want to put them on DVD <9> making dvd's is a nice optio <9> option <8> Yeah. It is. <9> when i get real lazy i just pipe it all thru my vcr and make tapes <8> I am not a huge tv type of person, but its nice to have some movies that you like a lot on tape. <9> true <8> also movies you recorded on your dvr, With this computer i dont need a dvr <8> tape = DVD I mean and maybe a couple on your hard drive. <9> i use tivo for most things,,but sometimes i do the same and record to my pc <9> sounds like you have a nice setup <8> Right now I am teeing off the satelite cable and running it from upstairs. <8> Yeah. I like it. <9> have you ever tried a dvb card? lets your pc act as a sat reciever <8> No. Hmm <1> I still have all 8 hours of the Clinton Monica testimony on VHS hehe =P <9> i ran one for 4 months. .not bad. but not nearly as good as just a regular tivo <8> I have a tuner card which acts as a TV in and recorder <9> bud` i heard that testimony was highly ***ual..according to 'dave chappel' haha <9> don't know if you've seen his comedy standup <8> I need a sattelite box to de-encrypt the signal and then a cable to the computer. Right now I am running a 100 foot cable over the floors to the tv :) But I have to change that by the end of this day. <8> Not the tv but the sattelite DVR De-encoding box <9> sorta the same here. i come from dish reciver to vcr to video caption card..then i have rca going to video2 on tv..so i can watch on tv/pc at the same time <8> The sat box just, de-encodes it. The DVR is an extra its like tivo it records whatever you want to record. About 20 movies or so. maybe more. <9> very nice <8> I dont have a video 2 on my tv I dont think so I just bought a splitter. <8> From telephone I tell my son, Hey Start the movie now, and I hit record here. <8> hehe <8> My objective is to clear the DVR from content <8> Maybe even get rid of it, I can set this machine to record certain movies, especially if I had a 2nd reciever which was a free option which I never took advantage of because I didnt want a 2nd tv in my house. <8> But now that I have this computer with remote control, I could watch and record anything I wanted with a 2nd sat box <9> don't blame you there. <8> I have to turn the sound off these Senators drive you crazy listening to them grandstand. <8> This is weird I have had an intense headache on the right side of my head for 12 hours or so. <8> I think its sinus headache because I have had a cold. <9> i have to admit i watched a good 4hrs of alito hearing and actually enjoyed it <8> It hurts bad though. I guess Ill take pain killers. If it hurts all day today and tommorrow, I probably should see a doctor. My brother in law, I had the whole family over last night for awhile, one of my brother in laws is in the hospital with a brain aneurism. (SP) <8> He probably will die. but i am not sure. <8> Hes the ex con guy. <8> I feel sorry for him though anyway. <9> sorry to hear that <8> My other brother in law has a great job where they gave him a truck they have him working all over california, hes been in San Diego lately. <8> Hes moving up to a forman position in tilt up concrete walls. <8> Big Company. <8> Yeah I am sorry about my other brother in law, I think even if he survives he will have brain damage. <8> His dad is here from Texas I saw him last night. <8> Hes murdered people before. So Its a mixed feeling. <8> Hes a guy with no money who is in the hospital getting the best care he can. <8> Another dart in the myth that poor people cant get medical care in america. <9> he needs to claim he is illegally here and he'll probably get better care..go figure <8> I have USB connectors in my Monitor, does that mean they are connected to the computer ? Or are they for specific uses only ? <1> basically just a usb extension cable right? <8> Nah, Hes legal. They have his true identity <9> means your monitor has a usb hub builtin. you need a cable from pc to monitor to activate hub
