<0> edvince b
<0> This book is addressed for understanding of the Calculus and not for the traditional teaching that sins for the excess of formalism. It is an excellent book for who wants to understand and to learn Calculus through the application of problems of the Real World. The book also motivates the use of graphic calculators to have a better vision of the problem.
<1> MrRod: in that case, that grade has little value
<0> from a reviewer
<2> ok
<1> if it really should have been a B, then to me a "Harvard A" I might consider as a B
<1> when I interview people should I do that ?
<2> but I don't see how that's necessarily a less informed approach
<0> Timur also I could aruge that they inflate grades at havard, how come, we don't hear how much the curve iis
<0> Timur if they don't even talk of l'hospital rule
<3> US-Male: You get what you pay for.
<2> many universities inflate grades
<0> in the text book, then how can a student do good
<0> Timur why is that
<3> US-Male: Really, yes. You should.
<1> MrRod: hrm..... I hope the employers (like us) get what they pay for =)

<2> so, ***uming a roughly constant standard, we're back to square one.
<0> Timur why is that
<0> why do they inflate
<0> if they are Up the cut, why do they inflate
<3> US-Male: Stanford is also known for grade inflation. Like I said, you get what you pay for.
<1> cause, people expect a hgher salary -- I wonder, do we get what we pay for
<2> gopp: pressure, perhaps; and wanting to look effective; many possible reasons
<1> MrRod: no matter, believe me, Ph D's at my company are working for their money
<0> Timur thus, if my univeristy didn't inflate, and only student who where good in math p***ed On, and havard p***ed 60%
<0> who would do better, my unvieristy
<2> and since Math can be taught by multiple approaches, perhaps that particular rule, with which I'm not familiar, can be avoided by teaching by another method yielding the same results
<2> gopp: if.
<3> US-Male: Do they work for you?
<0> Timur that is the basic rule of caculus, which can be confusing
<0> Timur what if your bulding a bridge,
<1> MrRod no, but we all interview them
<0> and you forget that rule
<0> or never learned it
<2> and since the purpose of especially an undergrad education is to provide breadth as well as depth, and since Harvard's departments are pretty consistently excellent across the board, and community colleges' aren't, well, there you go.
<1> MrRod: my boss makes them work hard regardless of the PhD
<2> gopp: again maybe there are other means of approaching that rule, whatever it is.
<0> Timur but why, are they consistently execellent, could it not be grade inflation
<2> it could be
<2> as I sai
<2> d
<0> Timur could be, but I must p*** through the rigous of learning,
<2> and I also said why it may be so.
<2> gopp: I'm sure you do, and so do they.
<0> my math totour over the summer, totour this girl who was taking differitnal equation
<0> at X big name school in my state
<0> montcalir
<2> my gf's housemate went there
<0> and compared his syblus from the community college
<2> very smart dude
<0> he did far more
<0> at the community college, that is more chapters
<0> then montclair
<0> montclair has great bussiness deparment
<0> for grad and undergrad
<2> more chapters
<0> my friends go thier
<2> well, that might be the result of particular departments and their standards
<0> that is they learned more stuff, that was exculded at montclair,
<0> Timur is montcliar a state school
<2> maybe it was ***umed at Montclair that they already knew it
<0> that is my community college had high standard
<3> US-Male: Ever meet PhD's who have absolutely no common sense but can blabber on about theory all day long?
<0> that why I didn't take caluclus thier
<0> MrRod yea I have
<0> and they been my professor
<0> like my phd markting professor, who knows all the theorys of markting, execpt common sense
<0> hey makes cornny jokes
<0> Timur diffrtial equation, is college level math course, not high school
<1> MrRod yes, a few
<0> Timur but could be it ***umed
<2> ok
<0> but not all community college are good
<0> and I bet many inflate grades also
<2> I don't know about those particular departments at those universities, so I'll go with what you say
<0> just the one in bergen county don't inflnate
<0> inflate

<0> or allow the use of a calculator
<1> MrRod: I know a guy who gave a lot of presentations that were all theoretical, no real data. He never did develop any decent methods
<2> ok, night all
<0> some community allow calculutor
<1> theory without results, does us little good
<0> k night timur
<3> US-Male: It gets your company in journal articles!
<0> so how did he get his phd
<0> he must prove something, of invent or something
<1> MrRod well sometimes.... he does publish that junk, and he can get hired based on BS
<0> in this thiese
<1> MrRod: but his resume came through our company last year. Thank god he found another job
<4> http://forumshq.com/showpost.php?p=89392&postcount=2 (opinions?)
<0> my point is, you don't need to spend 30 to 40 k
<3> US-Male: This is someone who you worked with before your current job?
<0> on a education, when it will cost you 1.50 in late fees at the public libary
<1> MrRod, previous job
<1> yes
<0> was he smart
<0> like did he know what he was talking about
<3> US_male: Did you warn your current employer?
<1> I won't say negative things about people unless they REALLY ****, just out of good networking relationships
<0> I noticed some people, just act liek they know what they thier saying, but when you ask them a curveball question they get thrown off
<5> http://www.861.revereradionetwork.com/
<1> MrRod no, I didnt have to
<0> US-Male nor will I
<0> unless they realy offend me
<0> some how
<4> will someone read the text i wrote?
<4> http://forumshq.com/showpost.php?p=89392&postcount=2
<1> MrRod but I will sound more enthusiastic about the ones who really are good -- and he should see the difference
<1> I will shade things much better when a person really does good work
<0> US-Male are you proud of the unvieristy or college you went to
<3> US-Male: Yeah.
<0> was it a famous place
<1> gopp yeah, kind of
<1> no not famous
<1> it's a small college in a rich town, with tough admission standards
<6> hey
<0> check this out
<1> unlerss you transfer, then anyone can get it
<0> US-Male wow that great
<1> *get in
<0> that regious
<0> wow
<0> that how it should be I bet, unless you tranfesser
<0> check this out
<0> I found other data
<0> Do Harvard students make better grades in Calculus than Standard Calculus students?
<0> http://www.math.okstate.edu/archives/calcosu.html
<0> 2. # Are Harvard Calculus students more or less likely to drop the course?
<6> Harvard people are just plain better than anyone else
<6> especially Yale
<3> US-Male went to Bob Jones University!
<1> hehehe
<0> This report contains tons of information. The purpose of the report was to compare the Harvard Calculus students to the Standard Calculus students (those using Larson Hostetler) at OSU.
<0> larson is the book my community college uses
<0> hahaha
<1> my only complaint about Hardard & Yale, etc are the tuition fees
<1> *Harvard
<7> erek werent you saying the teacher told you not to use religion
<0> how do you open .ps
<1> the tuition is too high
<0> US-Male why is it so high
<0> why, if you learning the samething
<4> bud`, yeah but i'm not sure about it any longer
<1> perception of value
<0> US-Male and for some reason, i want to go thier
<1> people are willing ot pay it, based on perception
<0> so that I can shove in people faces
<1> lol
<3> US-Male: High tuition is good. Keeps the rif-raf out.
<0> US-Male like 100 airjordans
