<1> if you once go for a high-contrast layout, you need to keep that in balance by using high contrast throughout the design. otherwise things will look bleeched & bad
<1> how to: duplicate the layer containing the image. optionally you can add a slight gaussian blur. put blending mode to mulitply and duplicate layer again, this time setting it to hard light blending mode. desature slightly with hue/saturation. blur the result slightly with gaussian blur and sharpen again
