<|CeLL|> [\snowe\] oh hells bells
<Nixcat123> Anyone have suggestions on a good setup (on the cheap) for gigabit throughout the home like what are some good NIC's and switches (router doesn't really matter)
<cranky> anyone care to recommend a good WAP?
<cranky> I'm getting tired of these linksys waps dropping connections
<cranky> I have a WRT54G (V3 iirc) and a WAP54G, both drop connections, I have a WRT54G installed elsewhere and it drops connections to other notebooks, I have a linksys wrt with srx400 and it drops connections
<cranky> all different notebooks and minipci adapters
<cranky> the common thread is linksys :(
<cranky> I've tried a billion different firmwares as well
<redondos> Have you tried a million different antennas?
<cranky> yes,
<cranky> well only one other antenna, but with no availa
<redondos> Because it looks like either you've got interference, or just low signal due to distance/walls/etc.
<cranky> I trit happens in close proximity to he waps
<cranky> grrrr, it's doing it again, I'm 15 feet away
<cranky> I'm rdp'd into my machine downstairs and it's jsut unbearable tonight
<redondos> What channel are you using?
<redondos> Have you ever tried changing it?
<cranky> I just changed it again
<cranky> I was using 4 iirc, then I switched to 9, now I just changed it to 1
<cranky> I'm looking at all the other waps in the area trying to stay away from them
<redondos> Your problem might lie elsewhere.
<redondos> Say, cordless phones?
<cranky> I don't even have a cordless anymore
<redondos> Does your neighbor?
<cranky> nobody is using the microwaves
<cranky> the closer neighbor is't even home, but he could have it off th ehook and people are ringing etc
<cranky> but its not even like I'm dropping down and going back up in speed, now I'm losing connections
<cranky> ok, just changed the upstairs wap to channel 4 since I was getting better connectivity to the downstairs one (different SSIDs)
<cranky> brb
<redondos> Have them in non-overlapping channels.
<cranky> I had them on non-overlapping ones
<cranky> right now my primary connection is on channel 4, secondary ap is on channel 1 atm, I have neighbors on channel 6, 2, 9, 11, 3, and another on 6
<cranky> doens't help that I'm using a Intell 2200BG mini-pci adapter
<cranky> the intel drivers are complete crap
<cranky> had to give up on using a single SSID and letting the machine switch automatically
<redondos> I know ipw2200 ****s.
<cranky> forget seamless transition, it wouldn't switch AP's even if I was at 1mbps with a real crappy singal and sitting on top of the other ap
<cranky> the only reason I'm blaming the linksys' is because I've installed them for other people and they have problems too,
<redondos> Well, I am a happy owner of several Linksys WRTs
<redondos> .
<redondos> I like them, in fact I recommend them.
<cranky> oh and the 2200 can't saturate the link, I run netcps and I bounce all over the place and just about average 1100 KB/sec, with a thinkpad and I think an atheros I get a solid 2.5MBps throughput
<cranky> I've always recommended them too
<cranky> but its like lately they're nothing but trouble to me :(
<cranky> I think I have another WRT54G in the basement somewhere, maybe I'll swap out this wap54g
<cranky> what firmware do you run on your wrt?
<redondos> Openwrt
<cranky> why instead of dd-wrt?
<redondos> Because it gives more power to my fingers. ;)
<cranky> I only went to dd-wrt for the static dhcp, that was the big thing I needed
<cranky> recommend a mini-pci wifi card?
<redondos> I like DD-WRT. That's what I recommend after the Linksys WRTs, because Openwrt is not what most people need.
<redondos> I'm not sure man. Anything Atheros is good.
<redondos> I wouldn't get anything non-atheros, actually.
<cranky> I have a atheros 5100x in the basement
<redondos> >30mW preferrably
<cranky> I didn't realize it didn't support WPA2 though
<redondos> What?
<redondos> That's the drivers you're using that don't support WPA2.
<cranky> no the chipset itself doesn't
<cranky> I looked it up
<cranky> I googled the **** out of it, went to the atheros website and they show it doens't support it
<cranky> I got it off ebay, like $30 with s&H
<cranky> so it's not a big loss
<redondos> Do you remember your hardware version?
<cranky> I installed a linksys SRX400 for someone, the multiple radios actually made a big difference in range
<cranky> gimme one second
<cranky> I'll go grab the card
<cranky> bn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngrat
<redondos> Well, on unix the madwifi driver supports wpa2, apparently for all atheros-based cards.
<cranky> can't find it
<cranky> whoa wtf was that
<redondos> heh
<redondos> That was your cat tapdancing on the keyboard.
<cranky> gah
<cranky> no cats
<cranky> hate cats
<cranky> they make me look like Ihave down syndrom
<redondos> Heh
<cranky> had a cat for 4 years, woke up one day highly allergic to it
<redondos> He was offended and left the channel.
<cranky> heh
<cranky> found the card
<cranky> it was in my to be ebayed box
<cranky> now I can't find my loupe
<redondos> What time does the superbowl start?
<cranky> and the letters are too small and lacking contrast to ****ing read
<cranky> grrrrrr
<redondos> I really wonder, so I can write it down.
<cranky> it starts at 6
<cranky> but I'm not sure if thats kickoff or pre-game
<redondos> 6 EST?
<cranky> ahhh ha
<redondos> ty
<cranky> yeah 6pm est
<cranky> making me think I'm nuts http://www.superbowl.com/features/general_info
<cranky> ok it's an atheros AR5212A
<cranky> tha'ts the chipset
<redondos> That's crazy, selling tickets 8 months before.
<cranky> hrmmm
<cranky> so I wonder if this thing supports WPA
<cranky> I'm not even using WPA2
<redondos> (under linux) Atheros 5212 (802.11a/b/g). Works well with WPA2 (wpa_supplicant).
<redondos> So I ***ume it's not the hardware that might be limiting you.
<redondos> It could be the drivers.
<cranky> I think I may have been looking up the wrong chipset
<redondos> heh
<cranky> quesiton is where to get windows drivers for it
<cranky> actually looks like this chipset supports super G
<redondos> What brand is it?
<redondos> (who ***embled the card)
<redondos> See this guy configuring a gigabyte card using your same chipset under Windows XP. It looks like he seems convinced WPA and WPA2 are supported: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/index.cfm?a=wiki&tag=ar5212
<cranky> NFI
<cranky> NFI as in - No Farking Idea who ***embeled the card
<cranky> hold on, I'll pull the sheild off the radio to see if there is a manufacturer
<cranky> =P
<redondos> heh
<cranky> screw it
<cranky> http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=602974
<cranky> looks as good as any =[
<redondos> Yeah, nothing particularly interesting there.
<cranky> this card looks hokey though
<cranky> just noticed there is no fcc sticker on it
<cranky> =]
<cranky> here's hoping the intel drivers uninstall clean
<cranky> :(
<cranky> I'm not doing well on finding **** tongiht
<cranky> can't find my damn screwdriver now
<cranky> should have done this wehn I clean isntalled this computer a month ago :(
<cranky> but I figured latest intel drivers on a clean install might work
<cranky> HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
<cranky> the card doesn't fit in the case
<cyclinder> hi all :)
<cyclinder> black ice or kerio winroute?
<cranky> hrmmmmmmmmmm
<cranky> just noticed that the wap upstairs was using WPA2, and the one downstairs WPA
<|CeLL|> [snowe] oh hells bells
<^Gate> mornin snowebabe
<snowe> mornin hon
<FearMoth_> iif I have two routers connected to a hub, and I'm connected to router A (192.168.0.1) can I connect to router B (192.168.1.1) ? or do they both have to be 192.168.0.* ?
<DrNight> If your netmask is /24, you'll need to change B to 192.168.0 or add another IP to your system within 192.168.1.
<cyclinder> hi all
<cyclinder> http://forums.kerio.com/index.php?t=msg&th=10525&start=0&S=cb752c72406cdc06a3e6cb7d51523737
<cyclinder> please read
<FearMoth_> DrNight: how do I know if my netmask is /24 ?
<DrNight> Is it 255.255.255.0?
<FearMoth_> yes
<DrNight> It is.
<FearMoth_> So should I change router b to 192.168.0.2 ?
<DrNight> If you want.
<cyclinder> did anyone read my thread?
