<3> (it's not what you think :-) <4> you mean its not a large rooster? <3> NOPE! <3> compdoc: lol look at it now <4> um, nty <3> hah ok <5> mornin snowebabe <6> mornin hon <7> hi all <7> we got a multiple gateway which link vpn to another office, how can i do failover? <7> do i need hsrp from cisco? <7> i got 192.168.0.1, .2, .3 and .4 all link to another offifce, how can i set fail over please? any clue wold be appliciate!! <4> the failover has to happen at the router, no? <7> no <4> the gateway ip on each workstation cant be changed without a reboot <4> or, at least, the connection as to be reset <7> how? <4> so to be smooth, the gateway needs to remain the same, and the change occurs at the routers <7> yes, <7> you means <7> no gateway change but implement at router level? <7> like hsrp between router? <4> yeah <4> Ive never seen a customer with that kind of failover tho <7> i do differnt way <7> i might do it wrong way. <7> please correct me <4> how do you do it? <7> one one line , we got T2 speed on a router, at router we got 5 ip address <7> we config the first ip as gateway1 and second ip as gateway2 <7> then we config each workstd to have 2 gateway <7> if the first one fail it go to second one <7> i know this is wrong <7> could you tell me the correct way pls. <8> sounds like the problem i'm having <7> and if the router which connect to phone line fail, means both gateway1 and 2 are use less <8> hold on <8> i'm reading what u've written so far
<7> :> <8> what are your two gateways? <7> smoothwall corp <8> and the other? <7> same <7> we having two smoothwal box running behind actual router <7> so,if the first one fail it go to second one, <8> what about the router <8> you only have one right? <7> yes <8> what kind of router <8> and what type of link is it <7> cisco 2500 <7> t2 <8> is smoothwall a linux box? <7> yes <8> ok then <8> i would try setting up keepalived <8> and using a virtual ip <7> ?? <8> so when one box fails, the other box ***umes the virtual ip <8> through a gratuitous arp <8> www.keepalived.org <7> sound good <7> so i don't need 2 gateway on workstation. <8> nope, just one <8> you set the gateway on the workstation <8> as the virtual ip <8> when you set up keepalived, you specify which smoothwall box is the master and which is the backup <8> it's somewhat similar to heartbeat <8> but much easier to set up <7> what is hartbeat? <7> I will set it up asap <8> i <3 linux <7> nice <7> so, this is out of my original question, but useful!!. <7> if I would like to setup failover on router level, i will need hsrp, correct? <8> are you going to have two links? <8> two T2's installed from separate providers <7> yes <7> is Keepalived compatible with smoothwall? <7> anyone know whcih cisco model is compatible with hsrp and cheapest one? <1> [snowe] oh hells bells <7> anyone know cisco 800 compatible with hsrp s/w? <9> what is the difference between PPPoE and Metro-Ethernet ? <10> They're not even related. PPPoE is a method to provide authentication and authorization over Ethernet. Metro ethernet is simply ethernet run over a long (metro) distance instead of just LAN.
