<0> jeenam: iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 8000 -j DNAT --to-destination 192.168.0.88 <0> its ok? <1> yes <2> jak20000 do this nc -l -p 8000 -e /bin/sh <0> ok <0> epoh: nc -h for helpUnknown host <2> hmm <2> type nslookup <2> what is your hostname ? <0> ServerWB <2> type nc -h <2> what do you get ? <2> list of help options ? <3> epoh:whats the cmd to show my name,address? <0> a > <2> tomss ifconfig -a
<2> or type hostname <4> Does GRUB need the /boot partition, or can I install GRUB into the MBR and delete all the partitions afterwards? <0> epoh i am in > <5> grub needs a /boot/grub/menu.1st file to read <2> jak20000 in what ? <5> all grub puts into /mbr is that file's location <5> info grub for all the details <6> awol: it really doesn't, though. <6> you just the get grub command line if there's no menu.lst <5> true <4> Could that files location be on a NTFS partition? <5> but not a real lot of good without one.... <6> no, grub doesn't read ntfs <7> qw_: uhh...that would be kinda dumb <5> but if yer an expert then np's <4> I'm going to use GRUB to boot Windows Vista and Windows XP <8> btw how reliable is ntfs write support nowadays? <0> epoh i typed nslookup <9> mdasilva: it isnt <4> but I'm not going to have Linux on this computer <7> qw_: so then why use grub at all? <6> qw_: awesome <7> Windows has support for booting other stupid operating systems <2> sorry jak20000 type exit <6> get used to rootnoverify (hd0,0) <6> chainloader +1 <6> boot <6> that's what you'll have to type every time. <4> I don't really know :P Because I just remembered that even if I use Grub I will still have to go through Vistas stupid bootloader <6> why not just put a tiny boot partition on it? <8> they xp and vista <8> oi <4> so it will be Grub -> Vista Bootloader / XP bootloader <8> s/they/why <4> Because I need Vista and XP for my work <4> bougyman - I actually have a tiny partition that's 8MB I've mounted as /boot right now <8> scary <5> sick <4> I think I'll just ditch GRUB alltogether and do a Vista recovery or something <1> qw_: why not go the #windows channel for help trying to boot windows <5> begone thou evil doer! get thou hence oh spawn of satan.... <1> yeah, go to #hell =) <4> hey be nice :P <1> just seems strange you're in here asking us for help with booting windows os <5> have a look at the channel's name <5> !wtf linuxhelp? <10> Welcome to #linuxhelp ! :) Please read the channel guide at http://awol.no-ip.org/howto-gethelp.html - Don't ask to ask, just ask your questions right away. If you need to paste more than 3 lines, just say .hitme and you will be given a URL via /msg where to paste it for everyone to see. Be patient, answers may take some time. <4> yeah yeah, I know where I am, and the problem is not booting windows, it was questions about GRUB <5> qw_: what has vista and xp got for your work that linux does not? <1> *boo* <1> *hiss* <4> awol - customers that use it <5> and.... your point is? <8> qw wouldn't the vista bootloader be able to accomodate xp? <4> Yeah it does, I just broke it a while back when I decided I wanted XP and XP installed a new bootloader into the MBR <5> windows cant even play nice with itself..... surprise surprise.... <5> tell what to do if ya want a really trivial way to multi boot a machine <11> BLAM <4> awol - I work with customers that use XP and soon Vista, so to relate to their problems I have to use both OS's. Besides that, I'm still waiting for IDE integration i.e. MSVS05 with open source <1> qw <1> vmware
<5> qw_: want a trivial way to do this? <7> vmware? <5> no. it's not vmware <1> vmware = teh pwnerer <7> harddrive selector switch? <4> sure awol <5> and no. it's not by shooting yerself or using a mallet <1> get another pc <5> what sort of machine ya got? <5> jeenam: no. i said multi-boot <4> It's a no-brand machine as I built it a couple years back <5> ok... get 3 hd's.... install winxp on one take it out install vista on another.... then put in a new primary master and make the other 2 hd's /dev/hdb and /dev/hdc and install linux to a new /dev/hda and it'll auto-detect wincrap on BOTH of the other two disks and setup the boot loader for you with zero fuss and ya can easily select whichever OS ya want at boot as each hd has it's own intact /mbr <5> so it's trivial to put them into other machines, take 'em out or do whatever ya want <5> no headaches no fuss <5> ya can do it partitions if ya can figure out the boot loaders if ya must.... but my way requires zero thought and effort <4> requires two physical discs though <5> indeed <5> not good for laptops <5> is why i asked <5> hd's are cheap tho <4> :P I see. Yeah, it would work, but I like trying to get stuff to work with a bit of tinkering about and not automagic <4> Just tried Vistas repairtool, and that didn't work either <5> i'm way too lazy... i got better things to tinker with than waste my time on crap i dont need to put up with <4> I'll hit google and see if I can fix this mess, thanks for your help <5> look for a new job might be more productive... but c'est la vie! ;-P <4> I'm good :P I work in the NOC for a ISP, but some upper management idiot decided we should start taking customercalls when the regular customer service center is closed <12> anyone got a copy of that jpg that shows tux drinking from an xp juice box? <13> cls its at awol's site <5> in the phrase "some upper management idiot" the last word is redundant.... <12> sweet. i lost my copy when my hdd blews up ;/ <4> usually that is true, we have some good people, but it seems like they forget how the world really works when they move one floor up in the building <5> qw_: tell your boss here's the cheapest way to handle tech support.... http://awol.no-ip.org/images/techsupport.jpg <7> outsourcing to india? <5> get the janitor to do it.... <7> ahh, right <13> they're idiots when they make you use windows, because thats the manager's policy, not because they make you take customer calls ;) <12> Trengo: dont suppose you know where to find the version 2 of that? has the same tux image but he is sitting in the "windows field" <12> the rolling hills image <13> cls no, but i remember that, only tux is driving a kart? <13> let me find it <12> i found one once <12> that was the same tux ****in on the juicebox of xp <12> but he was sitting out in the windows wallpaper <12> the one with the hills and the sky and **** <12> its like the default for xp <14> Is there a way i can setup squid to timestamp it's log files? <12> http://clubnet.org/~cls/vista.jpg is a good one too =) <12> http://www.comfsm.fm/computing/squid/FAQ-6.html <15> :D <11> -_- <12> or <12> http://tinyurl.com/32d2za <12> a lil tool we liked to call <12> THE GOOG <12> first post is years old, so i dont think id trust it <15> cls: I use the tux juicebox one on my media PC <12> but he is certainly correct in that you can always postprocess logfiles ;p <7> Your Windows MCE box? <12> Idle: is he sitting in the windows field? <15> Qwell[]: no, my media PC <15> cls: alas, no... its just yellow <12> ahh <14> I found a way to parse the logs with perl into a readable timestamp <14> but I wanted something native to squid itself, was hoping for an option in squid.conf <14> I did search google though ;) <7> "search google"? <12> http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://www.arabx.com.au/tux/large/linux-tux-born-2-frag-XP.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.arabx.com.au/tux/&h=1024&w=1280&sz=153&hl=en&start=2&tbnid=J5Rc3tLs6vBAVM:&tbnh=120&tbnw=150&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dtux%2Bxp%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG <7> You can't deverb a verbed noun like that... wtf are you thinking? <12> dear god <12> http://tinyurl.com/3dm38v <12> i had no idea that url was so ugly :P <13> cant find it :s <7> cls: You just gave me an idea
