<0> heya guys, I have a VPN issue I need some help with. I am trying to setup a warehouse to use our wireless system remotely through vpn. How can I use open VPN to p*** traffic through from one warehouse to the other? I have a linux server serving the VPN at the main building, and at the other warehouse I only have a linksys router and a windows box running the win32 port of open vpn. I need the wireless handhelds to transfer their data t <0> I then need the main building system to spit info back to the remote warehouse <0> I've setup a VPN before for computer to computer, but never network to network <1> psortland Some of what you said got truncated. However there's a good openvpn howto that should answer your questions. For *nix it's basically three commands to get it going. Under windows there are a few dialogs to fill in. The usual trouble spot is getting your firewall/router to behave. <0> perfect, is it on the open vpn site? <1> psortland What I would recommend is that you google for the openvpn howto and then after you read it, ask us specific questions. I do not have time to step someone through every detail, but I've done what you're talking about and made it work so I'll try to answer specific questions. <0> will do <0> thanks Mjolnir :) <1> I think there is one on the openvpn site, but there are others around that may be better. <0> kk, I used the one on gentoo-wiki to get my house to work VPN going, but that only shared my home network to my work network. I'll give google a go <0> I just had a thought <0> couldn't I just setup the windows machine to work as a gateway? <0> then all data transmitted from the guns would hit the windows box and travel through the VPN <1> psortland That's what I thought you were going to do. <1> psortland You're going to have to have some computer act as the gateway on each side. I would hope that the windows box you have is either 2000 or xp. Depending on the win95 codebase (95,98,me) for something like a VPN would give me the screaming heebie-jeebies. <1> psortland After you read the howtos, you may want to discuss whether bridging or routing will work better for you. Both modes have their advantages and disadvantages, but do read first so we can have an intelligent discussion about it.
<0> I will, thanks! <2> what do I need to do to have my apache support asp? <3> anyone alive who knows cisco nat for IOS off the top of their head? <3> I can't remember how to do a one-to-one mapping <3> I'm doing port overloading right now, one public to many private; I need to do a couple of full host mappings by putting additional IPs on the subnet and mapping them statically to inside IP addresses <1> cnguyen There are some articles you can find on google that tell you how. However I don't know that I'd recommend using it. I tend to use PHP when I need that sort of stuff. <1> cheez I'd go over to freenode and ask on #cisco <1> Or maybe on #cisco here, but I don't know that group. <4> Hi trying to compile eggdrop on debian and when i run configure --with-ssl it gives me error: OpenSSL not found, please supply a pathname to OpenSSL. I dont know which path it is =/ (openssl is installed via apt-get) <5> what's the most user friendly and stable linux available? <2> suse fedora <6> i have fedora 4 core 64bit x86 running on my server but it appears to have a memory leak, everyday the memory usage jumps 75-100MB until it runs out of memory <1> I don't know that I'd call fedora all that friendly <4> never mind. fixed it by installing libssl-dev <1> I use it for servers, but it can drive me nuts sometimes. <4> chains: ubuntu is very "easy" too <1> I'd say SuSE is pretty friendly. I've not uses ubuntu, but I know people who like it. <1> I've actually put complete newbies on SuSE and they could drive it ok. <5> hmm <5> i have suse on this desktop right now and it was pretty easy to install <5> but i'm not so sure about updating packages and installing new ones <5> i tried using yast2 but what if you want a package that it doesn't list? <7> yast <5> same thing... <7> indeed <5> that's the console version <7> use a different repo <1> chains At that point you can use rpmfind or someting and get what you need, but quite frankly most of what you want, yast will list. <5> hmm <5> ie, php, mysql, and apache2 <7> doesnt rpmfind operate a suse repo also? <1> chains, php, mysql, apache2 are all in the default repositories. <1> Plus you can set up multiple repositories if you want. <5> ok <1> But just as an example, <5> i just want to get a cs source server up and running <5> didn't know which dist of linux would be best for that <1> But an example of where yast didn't have what I wanted.... Asterisk, the PBX software for linux, doesn't usually have a current RPM with what I want. So I just downloaded it, compiled it, and updated my rpm database with checkinstall. <5> hmm <5> we have an engineer that mentioned Asterisk to me <5> sounds interesting if you can get VoIP up and running <5> for dirt cheap or free <8> HA! my headphones had a factory defect <8> theyre replacing them <9> good afternoon all, question question, I am trying to modify or create a printer interface script, basically, the two lines are, cat $6 > /tmp/filename, and the second line is a pcl2pdf /tmp/filename /tmp/filename.pdf, the cat works perfectly, the second line does not execute, anythoughts? thanks! <1> Yeah - you usually wind up spending some money on hardware to do it right, but we set up a VoIP test setup at a friend's house with some Cisco phones. Worked fine. <5> nice <1> It's also nice to be able to plug a headset into my laptop and use the company's phone system from wherever I'm at. <5> i'll have to play with that someday <1> What do you mean by "cs"? <5> counter-strike <5> it's a game <5> counter-strike:source is the full name <5> it's the version of cs <5> source <1> Ok. SuSE will do that. <5> the latest version <5> hmm <5> on a dual p3 system? <5> you think suse is best? <1> Way back I ran some of the best Tribes 1 servers on the Internet under Linux using Wine.
<1> Well, "best" is relative. However it'll run it well. <5> this is the article i plan on using: <5> http://wolphination.com/linux/2006/03/29/how-to-setup-a-cssource-dedicated-server/ <10> is there a way to force an fsck on reboot ? <1> chains - just skimming that, I think SuSE will do fine - you'll probably want opensuse. However there are other distros that would also do fine. <1> lakez - yes, but I don't remember the specifics off the top of my head. <5> ok, i'll try suse out then <5> i have it on a desktop here <5> was just playing around with it <5> i'm getting fios next week and i wanted to start playing with server apps <5> i need more server and linux experience <5> granted this is only a gaming server, it's a start :) <8> you can never have too much linux experience <10> Mjolnir, my drive seems like it's got a screwed up file system.. so I wanna fsck it .. i know rebooting it will fsck but there should be a way to force fsck <5> Idle`, i don't have nearly enough for my own satisfaction <8> ;) <5> everything i do in this world of computers seems to trickle down to knowing scripting and programming <5> and if that's reality, i'm not sure i'm going to be in this field much longer <5> i've always despised programming <5> too tedious for me <1> lakez A few ways to do that. What I'd do if I needed to do a fsck right now on a root filesystem is go to single user mode, mount the root fs read only, and then fsck it manually. <5> i wish it came to me easy <5> and i'm sure if i forced myself it would <10> shutdown -F -r <1> chains - I'm not sure why you'd want to despise it. Basically you code something up and then the computer will do it for you from then on - you don't have to do it ever again. <5> i have a hard enough time remembering the "one time things" you do in linux <5> as often as i'm building and rebuilding them <1> lakez - you can do that, but IMO it's better to do it manually if you're having trouble. More info tends to come up in manual mode. <5> i'll build a linux box, play with it for a while. then decide to try something else <5> i guess i should have a notebook for that kind of stuff <5> heh <11> exactly, I keep a text doc of my build procedures <5> well that's re***uring <12> how can i read a file 1 line at a time? <5> i figured all you nerds had all this **** in your heads <1> chains - the way I approach all this is that what I know in my head is that "there's a way to do X" along with where to look it up. If it's something I do commonly I'll remember it, but knowing how to do searches (manpages, google, etc.) is an absolute requirement <5> it just bugs the **** out of me when i have to read something i already read <5> linux isn't as intuitive as windows <5> i can forget how to do something in windows, then remember it by playing around <5> and not having to worry about breaking something <1> Eh? Windows drives me insane trying to find where they hid a dialog that I absolutely need. With Linux I can at least grep /etc for the option I'm after. <5> dialog? <1> dialog is what Mickeysoft calls a form where you set up various options. <11> FluKex you can type $more myfile and that fills the window, return will scroll 1 line at a time. OR you can use $vi +1 myfile which will start you on line 1 <1> E.g. system properties dialog <5> ah <5> i don't have any problems finding what i need in windows <5> most of the system maintenance can be found in the control panels <5> or through computer managment <5> it's certain server apps that bug me.. like exchange and running domain controllers <5> all the options and policies <13> Hmm. Does anyone know of a quick and easy way to install the Developer Tools suite of packages in RHEL, by chance? :) <14> Hey, i have a question. <1> chains - I was just about to give you har***ment over how windows does domain policies. <14> if I have https on port 443, can I forward one single IP from port 443 to another port? <14> like. <1> pi - using iptables, yes <14> how? <14> forward rules? <1> I don't have time to construct it, but there are howtos on how to do this. Basically you do a forward and you specify a source IP. <13> Or, to ask it another way ;), how can I install one of the package groups which shows up when I run: # upd2date --show-groups <13> Nevermind, I figured it out: # up2date -i @"Development Tools" <15> hello <15> i am wanting to install linuxfromscratch on one of my older pc's <15> pentium MMX 233megahertz <15> 32mb ram(i very likely will raise this to 64) <15> but it will not boot the cd <14> check bios settings <14> make sure it boots from CD before it boots from HD. <15> i get a message (Booting ATAPI CD-ROM: . . . Failure <14> bad disk, or bad CD. <14> s/CD/Cd drive <15> the pc's bios does not support all cd's for some reason <15> i have multiple pc's with the same problem
