<0> just downloaded the .tar.gz to the /opt folder
<1> empemp: busybox is just a shell interpreter and NOT a distro
<2> Great news I just read! - "In August 2006 at his (Richard Stallman's) meetings with the goverment of the Indian State of Kerala, he persuaded officials to discard proprietary software, such as Microsoft, at state-run schools. This has resulted in a landmark decision to switch all school computers in 12,500 high schools from Windows to a free software operating system." - I wanna see and hear it all, but the page only allows audio OR vide
<2> o. How to I combine them easily, you know? http://www.sweden.fsfeurope.org/projects/gplv3/bangalore-rms-transcript
<1> MikeSushi: what distro?
<3> debian
<4> mplayer, xine, or vlc
<4> you'll want multimedia.debian.com in your sources.list if you want to get mplayer and the w32codecs package with the most recent a/v codecs.
<3> Well, it's embedded though..Would it work that way too?
<4> i use the mplayer-plugin from multimedia.debian.com
<4> works on embedded wmv media objects just fine
<0> awol: but how can i use that program?
<4> there's a vlc and xine one as well.
<4> it's just preference, at that point.
<1> empemp: you aint telling me everything....
<0> what u want to know? :)

<1> empemp: busybox is not an operating system...... is this openwrt? or ddwrt? or something?
<0> it is open mss
<1> mss?
<0> a firmware for the maxtor shares storage network disc
<1> ah....
<1> well all bets are off then... dunno
<0> i managed to install unrar but can
<0> t't remember how
<1> i'm guessing they're using an openwrt variant
<0> mm
<1> or similar os
<1> i've worked with openwrt and flashed router's and stuff.... must be kinda similar
<1> but the trick is in building the firmware image correctly
<3> hmm... multimedia.debian.com doesn't exist, apparently.
<3> or .org for that matter
<4> hrm
<4> lemme see where they moved it
<5> hola
<5> what's best practice for updating files on loadblanaced webservers?
<4> unison is nice
<5> nice, that looks perfect
<5> thank you
<2> How can i join two .ogg - files - one containg audio and the other video - into one with synced lips?
<5> /usr/bin/britneyspears file1.ogg file2.ogg
<4> since when does ogg do video?
<4> that's news to me
<6> anyone who can recomand a IRC server for debian?
<7> anyone here give me bit of help with suse 10.1 dvd installation problems?
<7> anyone?
<1> !wtf help?
<8> help is best gained by asking specific questions and providing ALL relevant details about the distribution being used and the software involved and ALL pertinent errors messages! It is NOT /msg'ing people who didn't ask you to message them! Of course the best help is RTFM! Try http://www.tldp.org :)
<7> ok:
<7> step 1 of installation of Suse 10.1 when doing installation settings, under SOFTWARE: i get: no catalogue found at 'dvd:///?devices%3d$2fdev%2fhdc' ERROR: No Proposal help?????
<1> select "Check installation medium for errors" or similar option
<7> i got: SHOW RELEASE NOTES, back, abort, accept
<7> show release notes - says no notes logged
<7> accept - cannot accept while erro
<7> error*
<1> [Bulldog]: my point is... have you checked the dvd to see if it's burned ok?
<7> heh donno how too
<7> nero said burn was fine
<7> uttorrent said downloaded without errors (hashes)
<9> if I do a top and I got 106504k of "Mem" free and 10768k of "Swap" free is my server pretty much getting it in the *** royally right about now?
<7> tried to install on other box and nothin
<7> only other distro i have here is rh9
<9> Mem: 2011832k total, 1842140k used, 169692k free, 12876k buffers
<9> Swap: 1020116k total, 1009348k used, 10768k free, 178068k cached
<1> [Bulldog]: nero is pretty useless imho
<1> xtor: look at load averages
<1> xtor: linux loves ram and will use as much as it can get freeing ram as required
<9> load averages are below 1 at this point
<1> 1 == 100% cpu utilisation...
<10> specifically, load avg means how many processes are waiting on time, over an average of 1, 5, 10 (?) minutes
<9> oh **** load went up to 10
<10> 10, or 15?
<9> 10/5/3.4 now
<10> xtor: I've had higher than 1000 load before
<10> GUI was really snappy still
<9> load just means whats waiting right
<11> i beliave load also includes processes in D state, no ?
<9> hmm

<9> well its down to 1.23 now
<12> i just did a rm file.txt is there anyway to recover that file?
<13> replay the journal if you have a journaled filesystem. Or restore from your nightly backup
<11> how do you "replay the journal" ?
<14> You can always just look at the raw hd, but that is somewhat 'ghetto'
<14> kaos01: what filesystem
<15> If I have a program that I installed using the RPM and I want to update it using the source tarball, can I just make install over it or do I have to do something special?
<1> Frazzydee: dont
<1> Frazzydee: http://rpm.pbone.net
<1> Frazzydee: or man rpmbuild
<15> awol: ok, thanks
<1> !wtf rpmdeath?
<8> Hmmm. I think rpmdeath is NEVER EVER IN YOUR WILDEST DREAMS should you dare to compile source on a RPM based machine. The risk of wrecking your rpm database is high and then we will all be forced to laugh at you. It's like going to a library and putting a book on the shelf without making an index card.
<16> i know this really doesnt pertain to linux but i was using the ext2fsd program in windows to mount my ext3 partition in it and i went to shutdown and now i booted back up and it says it's a ntfs partition? anyway to possibly recover some of the data?
<1> !wtf testdisk?
<8> Some very useful data recovery software can be found at http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
<1> ceL: go there....
<16> thanks
<17> anyone up?
<18> yeah
<18> Tom-Cat: whats up?
<19> hey, i have a sendmail question. do you know why sendmail would be ignoring the domains in my /etc/mail/local-host-names file?
<10> because it's sendmail
<19> well, besides that
<20> do they resolve?
<20> errr
<20> bounce messages should tell you
<19> the error message i get is "relaying denied"
<19> im just telneting to port 25 and manually sending a message
<19> mail to @localhost and the office hostname go through fine
<19> er official
<19> i havent pointed the mx records there yet, since its not working and i dont want real mail to bounce, but that shouldnt effect sendmail not accepting the mail for local delivery
<20> pastebin the contents of the file
<19> it just has localhost, asharah.phalse.org and phalse.org each on a seperate line
<19> phalse.org is denied
<20> so whats not working
<20> why do you have a subdomain listed?
<19> because that is the boxes hostname
<19> i need to list it
<20> have you restareted sendmail?
<19> yup, many times, many ways
<20> where's local-host-names located?
<19> /etc/mail
<20> hmmm
<20> I notice they dont resolve to the same IP
<20> phalse.org. 3600 IN MX 10 mail.dotsterhost.com.
<19> no, i havent changed any of the dns settings yet
<19> otherwise all the mail will start bouncing
<20> well that might be a problem
<19> hrmm, maybe
<19> if that is the problem, its gay
<20> how so
<19> the local config files should override outside dns information
<20> do ALL your local config files say phalse.org is 207.210.78.152?
<19> im not going to change the A record, only the MX record
<20> that doresnt answer my question.
<19> there are no records pointing phalse.org to 207.210.78.152. but sendmail's config file tells it that it is supposed to handle email for that domain
<19> ill change the mx record now just in case
<20> yes, but apparently local AND remote dns say otherwise.
<20> since sendmail knows it isnt the MX for the domain, it returns relaying denied
<20> because remote dns says so
<20> and you apparently didnt alter the hosts file for testing purposes
<20> so no local dns to tell it its the MX
<19> the hosts file has nothing to do with mx records
<20> right. Good luck.
<19> uhhh, the hosts file is an alias list for ip addresses, it has nothing to do with dns records
<21> tekk, are you here?
<20> and the IP for the doain ISNT that box, GET IT?
<20> I'm through trying ot help you. good luck.
<21> domains have IPs?
<19> you can have mail sent to a different box for a domain other than the one the ip points to
<19> hell, you can have multiple ips per hostname
<21> an IP points to a box?
