<Waterman> kopete , gaim
<tonicxt> awesome thx
<howto> Kopete , gaim... kaim.
<Waterman> np
<Qwell[]> kaim? ha
<Qwell[]> nice one howto
<tonicxt> I'm running gnome -- should I have chosen kde isntead?
<Qwell[]> Do you want kde instead?
<Waterman> use gaim
<Waterman> its gtk based for gnome.
<tonicxt> I'm pretty happy with gnome
<Qwell[]> then you don't need kde
<Waterman> if you are happy , we are happy
<Waterman> aren't we :D
<Waterman> ^^
<tonicxt> heh
<howto> -_-
<Qwell[]> no
<Qwell[]> if you pay us, we are happy
<Waterman> me ?
<Waterman> no way, you pay ME
<Qwell[]> whomever
<Qwell[]> I don't discriminate
<Waterman> :D
<tonicxt> I have a cdrom question. RIght now I have to manually mount my data cd each time to /cdrom -- is there any software which will automate that task?
<mikefoo> Hey guys I have ntpd running but my time still get out of sync, what am I doing wrong? how can I make sure time is always acurate?
<Qwell[]> tonicxt: remove the word "noauto" from /etc/fstab
<Waterman> tonicxt, sorry Qwell[] said something , only if you pay we are happy, and we don't help unless we are happy.
<Waterman> agh !
<tonicxt> heh
<tonicxt> k
<Phazorx> ughm... please remind me
<Phazorx> CLI p***ed arguments in bash script within script are $ARGV[0] and on ?
<Qwell[]> no
<Phazorx> hmm... what is it then ?
<war_> $0 $1
<war_> $0 = the script
<war_> $1 $2 $3 args
<Phazorx> ahh... nm
<Phazorx> and can i get the count ?
<Phazorx> $# or soemthing ?
<war_> $# does that
<war_> yep
<Phazorx> it's coming back to me after all these years
<Phazorx> thank you
<howto> hi yo~
<qwarlock> hey guys
<joe66> hello does anyone know if there is a maximum amount of files i can have on a folder or partition
<joe66> ?
<joe66> i have 25000 spam email on folder and i am wondering how many can i have
<bloofar> joe66: what filesystem? and they're called directories, not folders
<joe66> i think is ext3
<joe66> i should be ok, i just went to wikipedia and it looks liek it is something like 2 to the 23
<Lopa> I have a bug with an ext2 fs. it happened after I deleted a large file (about 350MB) and it seemed the used space was NOT freed (checked with df -h). and now I cannot umount it, it says its used. I'd like to run fsck.ext2 but I cant since it's mounted.. any idea?
<bloofar> joe66: no, it's the number of bytes / 2**13
<bloofar> Lopa: run lsof to see what's still got a file open
<somae> I keep getting the messgae from "mount" mount: block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected, mounting read-only
<somae> mount: you must specify the filesystem type
<Lopa> there's nothing using the fs..
<Lopa> nothing in dmesg too
<bloofar> Lopa: umm... /cdrom?
<somae> the cd is a rw and there's nothing on it
<joe66> is there something wront with creating just one partition?
<bloofar> somae: you need to have packet writing support enabled in the kernel to do multisession writes on a cdrw. and it doesn't work all that great
<bloofar> joe66: need more info.. that's like saying 'is there something wrong with painting something green?'
<joe66> i mean just mounting the whole disk to /
<bloofar> joe66: as long as its a modern bios, that shouldn't be a problem. how large?
<joe66> if i only have on disk
<joe66> 80gb
<bloofar> nah should be fine
<Trengo> Lopa i had that prob once, turns up it was a tail running on the file
<joe66> sorry maybe 500gb
<Lopa> how can i check?
<Lopa> maybe its just just fs bug
<bloofar> Lopa: lsof | grep <filesystem> i highly doubt its a bug with ext2.
<Lopa> lsfo is not using it i tried
<bloofar> lsof shows open files.
<bloofar> joe66: should be ok.
<joe66> i guess ill put it all in one partition and if it does not boot i split it
<joe66> thanks
<joe66> makes me feel good, even if it does not work
<A^C^E> i have a linux server with static ip, and i have my windows machine at home with my dynamic ip, i wanna surf from my windows machine using the server's static ip address.. i guess i need to install a web proxy server on the linux machine, any recommendations of a simple one?
<A^C^E> and hey :P
<sj7trunks> A^C^E squid.
<Trengo> they left
<sj7trunks> hey
<sj7trunks> no harm in trying
<Trengo> wow
<Trengo> karlmarx really was here
<Trengo> perhaps juliuscaesar will join us later?
<smka> can tivo record 2 channels the same time?
<bougyman> some can
<smka> how to list more details in atq?
<noct> Is there a way to load an MBR, but not actually boot whats on the partition table with GRUB?
<tonicxt> Anyone here use 3ddesktop?
<howto> negative
<tonicxt> Not sure what you are getting at noct
<tonicxt> If grub is installed in the MBR, then by definition of loading the MBR, grub will get booted.
<Qwell> he wants to chainload a bootloader
<Qwell> I ***ume
<tonicxt> hmm
