<Idle247> Qwell: what?
<EaZy> how does one tell what processes are runing from a certain user then kill it?
<Qwell> it would be like going back in time and getting your mom pregnant...with you
<Idle247> eww
<graz> hahahaha
<graz> Oedipus
<Idle247> EaZy: pkill can kill all by user id

<howto> waCHOO *sniff*
<Trengo> dld yes

<bobntomm> What would cause the inability to connect to the sshd, randomly. Its done this for 5 months now. And if someone else tries to connect from another region, or even state, they can connect, but I cant. And vice versa. Sometimes we can both connect.
<awol> check yer logs.....
<bobntomm> Never an issue connecting to any other service/protocol (ftp/http)
<graz> neither of which are ssh
<graz> so therefore it must be a ssh issue
<awol> replace admin and try again....
<bobntomm> I was told it could have been an issue with reverse DNS issues?
<graz> running sshd in debug mode, not backgrounded sometimes helps
<graz> thats possible
<graz> running sshd in debug mode, not backgrounded sometimes helps
<bobntomm> Wouldnt it be noticed with other things then?
<awol> bobntomm: without precise details of what yer actually typing and the actual error messages it could be all kinds of things happening
<bobntomm> I will do that though
<graz> "other things" dont use ssh protocols
<bobntomm> I cannot even connect to it.
<bobntomm> rogers, understood graz
<bobntomm> When I get in, i will run through the logs.
<bobntomm> Put in a request with the IP owner to correct the revDNS record.
<graz> revdns of what?
<bobntomm> The IP address of the server in question.
<graz> what told you thats the problem?
<graz> as opposed to rev dns of CLIENTS?
<bobntomm> A while back it was proposed as a possible cause.
<graz> or sshd_config options that may have stricter settings?
<bobntomm> Matter of fact, if I try to traceroute the IP in question, I do not even have a route to it and it times out.
<graz> so?
<Pastr> so is /S-O/ n. 1. (also `S.O.') Abbrev. for Significant Other, almost invariably written abbreviated and pronounced /S-O/ by hackers. Used to refer to one's primary relationship, esp. a live-in to whom one is not married. See MOTAS, MOTOS, MOTSS. 2. The Shift Out control character in ASCII (Control-N, 0001110).
<graz> traceroute is udp, and may be blocked
<graz> means nothing as far as ssh is concerned.
<bobntomm> Hmm, seems to be a reverse mapping issue. Just let me in
<graz> reverse mapping of client?
<bobntomm> MAN says ReverseMappingCheck was deprecated, and its not a config variable for sshd_config anymore..
<bobntomm> reverse mapping checking getaddrinfo for ch-11-111-11-111.ISP.com failed - POSSIBLE BREAKIN ATTEMPT!
<bobntomm> Thats in auth.log
<bobntomm> But it showed that when it let me in (timestamped 2 seconds before i logged in)
<bobntomm> If I add an entry in /etc/hosts of 11.111.11.111 ch-11-111-11-1111.ISP.com, will that "solve" the issue? Because MY isp isnt going to help by allowing their clients to reverse anytime soon
<l3w> when i was setting up slackware, i chose to install LILO to the partition instead of teh MBR
<l3w> it's still trying to boot my old OS... how can i fix this?
<l3w> do i have to clear the MBR and then just reinstall LILO?
