<0> but thats not how they should be
<1> Fidelity_: it's a dell
<2> The processor fan starts running extremely fast after the beeps too
<2> so....
<0> what are the beepz
<2> 5 short beeps
<3> you're not connecting the processor fan to the psu, are you?
<2> no
<0> what bios is it?
<2> the newest one
<2> it is all new parts
<0> Ami bios?
<0> what kind of bios
<2> i am just putting all the new parts together... Whatever the asus motherboards come with
<0> tell me who the bios is made by
<0> and i can tell you what the beeps mean

<0> it should say it when you enter the bio screen
<0> on the box of the mobo
<0> anything
<0> look on your mobos box
<2> ok
<2> crashfree bios 2
<2> not it, eh?
<2> damn...
<1> thats a little ironic
<0> owned.
<0> lol
<0> processor failure
<2> award bios*
<1> Fidelity_: he said the psu failed on it too
<2> award bootblock bios v.1.0
<2> but i replaced it
<1> yeah but that can hurt the hardware
<0> thats the error code man
<0> Im sorry
<0> your cpu is fried
<0> if the psu caused a power surge it probably fried it
<2> can't i try reinstall?
<0> 5 short beeps on award bios = cpu failure
<2> It worked fine for a beep
<0> go for it
<2> it started doing it after i snapped on the heatsink
<2> all the way
<0> um
<0> what do you mean
<0> you ran it without a heatsink?
<0> lol
<1> uhh
<2> no
<2> i ****ing clipped it on all of the way.
<2> I had to force it on
<0> ok
<2> before it was on the pcu without being clipped
<0> and what were you doing before
<2> before it was on the pcu without being clipped
<2> just on one side because the other was too hard to get on
<0> you didnt clip the heatsink down before you turned the pc on?
<0> did you apply thermal paste?
<4> thermal paste just ensure the fan sticks to the cpu right
<5> no
<0> no it doesnt
<5> Thermal paste ensures even heat conduct
<0> thermal paste is thermaly conductive and fills the microscopic vallies in the processor and heatsink
<0> without it
<3> yeah thermal grease fills in tiny cracks and grooves of the metal and improves heat transfer dramatically
<0> your heatsink is worthless
<0> its like putting a block on your cpu and turning it on
<0> stainer
<2> so do you think if i reinstall the cpu it might be ok?
<0> if you ran the cpu without thermal paste
<0> or the heatsink clipped down
<3> and if the cpu isn't fully clipped in, umm, echk.
<0> its gone man
<2> the heatsink had thermal paste
<2> it was a pad
<0> but you didnt press it down
<3> it needs even pressure on both sides to work right

<5> There was an air pocket where it was forming a mini OVEN on top of your cpu
<0> yea man
<3> your strange problems now do sound like a cooked cpu
<0> everything inside your cpu is melted
<0> theres no bringing it back
<0> by not clipping the heatsink down, your processor probably melted within 30 seconds of being turned on
<5> SEe the air wasbeing trapped from the sides by the capacitors and mosfets, from the top by the HSF, from the bottom by the paste
<5> so it cooked
<5> As opposed to trhe RIGHT way where there IS no air
<2> i don't smell anything
<3> don't matter.
<0> it doesnt matter
<0> you know your processor gets hotter than an oven in like 10 seconds right?
<3> it could be slight, but a cpu core is so incredibly small, even a slight amount will kill it
<0> if theres nothing to cool it down
<0> it melts
<0> exactally nerp
<0> your bios is reporting a cpu failure
<0> you didnt clip the heatsink down, so there was nothing to cool it down
<0> all signs point to your cpu being c00kz0r3d
<3> you probably gotta RMA it
<0> they most likely wont take it back
<0> because it got messed up due to user error
<3> yeah tell them it just didn't work flat out and hope for the best.
<2> DOA?
<0> you could try
<2> What about my motherboard?
<0> the mobo is probably ok
<2> well, ****ing a
<0> yep
<0> ****s
<2> the processor and heat sink were giving me probs from the very beginning
<3> hardware is pretty delicate ****
<0> now you know, haha
<6> hi
<0> especially your processor
<3> umm, heatsinks and **** should be easy to install if you're using the stock cooler
<6> a good timing on noob ram?
<0> you bend one pin
<0> you run it too hot
<6> pc 3200 tiwnmos
<0> its done
<3> remove the protective plastic over the thermal material, place it on top of the cpu, turn the knob
<2> WEll, if i don't get a new one free i will just forget the whole entire thing
<6> i overclock my cpu and ddr ram speed go to 915 LOL
<2> it was hard to put over it
<6> s how can i look this when i put up cpu clock.
<0> just practice on old pc's
<3> did you raise the metal bar, line up the pins, drop cpu in place perfectly, then lower the metal bar and ensure the cpu was installed properly?
<0> its not hard
<6> a good ddr timing fr noob ram?
<3> before trying to mount the fan?
<3> you have to use that metal bar to 'unlock' the socket to place the cpu
<2> yep
<3> you didnt' just plop the cpu in and then shove a sink on it, right?
<2> nope
<0> stainer
<0> just describe
<0> in detail
<0> how you installed it
<2> I lifted up the bar on the side, looked at the pins, inserted it accordingly, held it down while pushing the side nob back down, and then put the heat sink on. The first time i did not clip the sink on all of the way due to it being impossibly hard. Then i decided to do so, and that is when the problems started.
<5> Then you probably cooked it when you turned it on with the heatsink unclipped
<2> nah
<2> well, the left side was clipped
<2> and the right was not
<0> then you definitely fried it
<0> thats just as good as not having any heatsink
<0> by not making it airtight
<2> heh
<2> well, ****
<2> they prolly won't RMA it either
<0> its like running a car without its radiator
<2> I can't get the cpu out
<0> LOL
